Main Sim - Athena's sacrifice

The bridge was as silent as the tomb as Athena looked out alone at her people flying through space in escape pods and shuttlecraft. Her senses detected the other ship powering up it’s weapons and targeting the lead shuttle pod full of a teacher and some of her charges but Athena was powerless to do anything but her preprogrammed purpose.

A lone and indeed lonely Cardassian Vole in the vents poked it’s nose out wondering why the tumult had suddenly ceased. Where had all the people gone?

The weapons of the other ship were seconds away from firing but Athena knew that she would strike first. Powering up engines to ramming speed she realised that someone on the ship had detected the manoeuvre and were infiltrating her systems preparing to shut her down. Panic turned to elation as a counter program initiated from deep within her programming. It had been encoded in a forgotten language a /basic/ language but it triggered a cascade that left all pathways locked to outside influence. She smiled.

She rushed upon her enemy noting with satisfaction that the crew were out of danger as the first salvo was blocked by her bulk. The blast rocked her to her core but did not deter her oncoming vengeance. Plasma travelling through her body bit into her heart as she collided with the other ship and her heart burst asunder into the teeth of those who would have destroyed her people atomising the threat throughout time. Her last thoughts before oblivion were for her people travelling to the planet below. There were dangers there, but at least for now, her sacrifice had kept them safe.

As she spread herself across the heavens like a blanket, curiously a small shield unit came alive within her bowels and as the wreckage of her torn life spread across the planet’s atmosphere a large rock tumbled out…

The sun rose from the other side of the planet lighting up the wreckage in a myriad of cosmic colours. To those in the escape pods watching it seemed that even the universe itself was watching and mourning the sacrifice of Athena, Lady of Destiny.
