“No name, brown eyes, long red hair, petite, passionate, thought of you with awe, knew Dawson and panicked when the other holodeck characters disappeared as if she wasn’t aware it was a hologram and was intensely curious about how a Caitian found their way to the place we were in,” Stark summed up succinctly flying back through his memory with an intent look on his face.

“That program was never meant for a non-El Aurian to seriously encounter. It was designed with the El Aurian people in mind, a place to call home that looked like home. That place is as real as my homeworld gets. So if these people are regulars, it would make sense for them to find you both out of place. Nearly every person in there, while they may look like a hologram, they are actually El Aurians all over the galaxy. If Dawson is indeed alive, it would make sense for him to have somehow found a way into the program. This red haired woman does not ring a bell. You said they appeared to know each other?”

Now Marishka remembered seeing the woman Stark had described. As she listened to their conversation Marishka found it surprisingly easy to put the spark of crazy between she and Orvos aside. She didn’t know exactly what the red head had gushed about but Orvos’ prowess as an engineer and quick wit might be considered worth gushing about and, perhaps, he wasn’t all together terrible to look at.

“Why did this Dawson say he may have unwittingly put ME in danger? I have heard people say such things before but the reasons are always different.” she explained.

  • Marishka

“What made him say that?” he asked curiously. “What led to that point?”

He trusted Stark, and now he was left to somehow blindly trust Marishka. There was a part of her that he longed to let loose to, but he knew full well the effects of her pheromones on those around her. He naturally would let his guard down with her, allowing himself to become enamored, however upon realizing such times, he would immediately bristle. It made for quite a crazy time for him. However, right now…he had to hope that she would be of value and not distract him.

Stark paced as he concentrated willing his mind to bring back the details from his nearly eidetic sense memory. “I sensed a distinct lack of animosity from the man, strange considering your past…”

“Maybe he got over it…” Orvos breathed to himself.

Marishka had been trying to remember Dawson’s words instead of just the feeling of his lips on the back of her hand before he vanished.

“He regretted having met me in that fashion and said that he may have unwittingly put me in danger but hoped that that danger was just a figment of his imagination. Then he kissed my hand and left. He did say something about hoping to meet again but I’ve heard that before as well.” she said with a shrug.

Orvos could either believe her or not. They din’t know each other well enough to trust one another very far but, perhaps, circumstances weren’t giving them the choice.

  • Marishka

Orvos sighed. “Of course he did. I don’t know what danger he may have put you in, but we will need to be ready just in case. If Dawson is alive, and if he truly has nothing against me, then he was likely requiring my help. For what I’m not sure. This redheaded woman, I’m not sure about. I’ll try to decode this and stop the eventual transmission of the data it’s collected. Stark, perhaps intelligence may have some information regarding him? If he was picked up by anyone in the Federation, surely intel would have something, right?”

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

“Someone with his credentials shouldn’t be too difficult to get a bead on. I’ll check”. Seemingly out of nowhere Stark’s modified personal PaDD appeared as he keyed in a search algorithm.

A record of Dawson was available, but only from a certain point. The USS Atlantis discovered a cryo tube in which he was found in. Upon revival and much caution, he was deemed fit to serve in Starfleet, if he so chose. He joined the marines and later joined the Atlantis again. After several years serving there, Starfleet intelligence made him an offer (off the books). He joined and after several years of service was listed as retired and living on Oed V. All evaluations appeared to check out fine.

Marishka had been sitting quietly playing the evening over in her mind.

“I’m making an assumption here. Correct me if I’m wrong. If Dawson instigated this breach into the program, can he do this with any holodeck program he chooses?” she asked.

  • Marishka

Bump

Orvos nodded slowly in thought. “Possible, yes. That’s assuming he is the one who made the breach, and assuming he has access to all holodeck programs. I’m one to believe it has something to do with me. The chip with that particular program was never meant to be full installed on a ship. Now it is, so that will likely be a conduit to which he can access me. I wonder if I ought to leave him a message, eh?”

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

“Well, looks like Dawson is living large on Oed V after being found and revived by the USS Atlantis, rehabilitated, “marinified” and then offered a position with Intelligence. According to this, he’s retired”. Stark gave his “Yeah Right” expression.

Orvos sighed and shook his head. “That man will likely never retire from his real work.”

Marishka had her hands primly folded in her lap and met Orvos’ eyes for a few long seconds, letting all the sassy snarky comments wash from her mind, before responding to him.

“You have my full assistance in this matter whether you feel you need it or not. Please avail yourself of it.” she stated.

Orvos, though he didn’t show it, was surprised to not see any snark comments. Perhaps Stark was right, she would be an asset, though her true talents seemed to remain hidden. In time, he would know.

“Thank you Marishka, I may yet do that,” he said before turning back to the code. “We should probably rest on this. I’ll continue decoding this. Perhaps you two can work on finding out who installed that chip into the holodeck, and just how the hell they managed to get in my quarters without a general alarm?”

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

Stark huffed, “I’d like to know how they managed that too, I’ve tried to do it and you caught me every time!”.

Marishka couldn’t help but break into a grin.

“Your quarters my dear Engineer? Be careful, I do so love a challenge. Although, for both our sakes, I’ll try to resist this one.” she said teasingly but with no malice.

  • Marishka

A small grin began to break across his face, though he tried to hide it.

Stark couldn’t help himself, “Would you two like to be alone? I can scan Orvos quarters later…”

Stark Nightstalker CIO

The mere thought of being left alone with her was altogether electrifying, terrifying, and surprisingly welcoming. Where had that final thought come from? His cheeks turned red, though he pretended as though they hadn’t. “Scanning may only get you so far, Stark,” he added, hoping to avoid that fact that he looked like a young boy whose secret crush had been announced to all the school kids on the playground.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

Stark, ever the soul of discretion, kept an absolutely straight face as he nodded his assent to the comment.

Later however he was going to laugh for a very, very long time.

Marishka watched the interplay between the two. If she were a woman of fragile ego, such a thing would have sent her over the moon with joy to be thought of so highly, whether it was in truth or in jest.
Orvos was a challenge and quite intriguing but that could be dealt with on her terms and, certainly, not at this moment. After all, she was here to help him… Wasn’t she?

“Any other suggestions?” she asked calmly as if the comment hadn’t even happened.

  • Marishka

“Take the bull by the horns and contact Dawson directly through Oed V?”, Stark’s eyebrow went up, “I love me some cloak and dagger but perhaps this calls for blunt force trauma”.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Orvos shrugged his shoulders. “We can certainly try. Best if somebody involved in security or intelligence do it before I do. Do we want him or anyone who knows him to know that I know things, hm? But that’s all dependent on if we even get an answer.”

He sighed heavily as he leaned back in his chair. “Is this something the captain should be aware of?” he asked almost solemnly.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

Stark’s eyes bulged slightly, ‘Considering how she reacted the last time we kept something from her I’d like to keep my hide intact”.
