Without turning towards them the dark-haired woman stood and made her way out of the exit.

Ky’Laria’s body began to wind up with tension as if to pounce at something, though outwardly her movement was muted. She just needed to see the woman’s face. If Starfleet could have just included a scent profile or vascular signature as they did at home, her identity would no longer be a question. At least now, having zeroed in on those aspects, Ky’Laria would be able to track her if it became necessary. She just had to show her face

Out of the corner of her eye, Viyara saw the dark-haired woman leave the bar and followed her with her gaze as best she could, turning on her seat in the process.

The bartender was a bit flustered by all the sudden flurry of attention. “I only repeat what reputable people tell me,” he said defensively.

Karina had her back to the crowd and didn’t see the dark haired woman leave. She laughed at the bartender, her hand reaching out to touch his fingers to draw his attention to her. “And what reputable sources would you refer me to if I wanted more information?” She had leaned in enough to keep her voice low so no one else would hear unless they were directly beside her.

“Why, she’s sitting right over…” the bartender’s words peeled off as he realized the expert he was going to refer them too was no longer sitting where he thought she was. Then he caught glimpse of her leaving the bar and pointed soundlessly at her retreating back.

Ky’Laria’s head darted back to eye the bartender. It was her that he was pointing at. The woman who had already caught the Kuras’ interest, and her Instinct. She was important. Maybe she wasn’t the designated suspect, but it no longer mattered. Ky’Laria shot her gaze back to the door once more…

The woman turned briefly as she went out the door. Her face was Asian and immediately recognizable as the woman on the PaDD the Base Commander had given them.

Turning her focus back to the redhead, Viyara leaned towards her and asked with a mischievous smile, “Why are you so interested in the Athena?” Was it a coincidence that all these people asking about the Athena should be in the same bar at exactly the same time? She surely didn’t believe that was the case. And why did the other woman leave so suddenly? For a brief moment her heterochromatic eyes flickered towards Ky’Laria, but then she looked the redhead straight in the eyes again, waiting for a reply.

The woman leaned in closer and said, “My comrades and I are planning to join her for a brief stint. We have a friend aboard we would like to see and visitor quarters have been made available to us. Seems to me we have quite a few people interested in the whereabouts of the ship.”

It was certain now. That had been her target. Ky’Laria silently cursed her own caution; she had wasted too much time and effort muting her instincts in favour of keeping up the social niceties expected among a group of ‘companions’ at a bar counter. As she sprang with apparently unbidden force from her stool, it was not lost on her deeper self - her Instinct - that, now that the woman was fleeing, she could be pursued. The thought warmed something deep within her as she landed almost daintily on her toes, already three paces away from the bar and into a stride which was quick without appearing too urgent.

Karina took note of the woman and then smiled back at the bartender. “Well, since I lost her… I guess I got you.” She slid her empty glass slowly towards him in a teasing manner. “I’m sure you can offer up a bit more info that I’m sure you heard from such a reputable source.” She leaned in closer and smiled just a bit brighter. She’d find out what she could from the man then head out. She wasn’t any good at tailing and she knew it. “Can you refill that while I use the little girl’s room? I’ll be rriiggghhhtttt back.” She winked and moved to the bathroom.

Ky’Laria didn’t seem to care whether she was any good at tailing, though one could get the sense that she was rather proficient. Already passing through the door, her eyes darted back into the bar to find Karina. Had she noticed? There was no time to retrieve her; she would have to be left to get what more she could from the barman. The Kuras disappeared from view, out into the corridors, after the scent of her newfound prey.

She looked excited.

Once out of sight around the corner, she pulled out the small comm she had been given to raise the alert that the target, the woman, had been located.

Tikka watched the two women go with a slightly confused expression. What was going on? She looked at Viyara. “So… That was odd.”

Ens. Tikka

“Indeed,” Viyara replied, her eyes slightly narrowed and fixed on the door through which Ky’Laria and the stranger had just left. Part of her was tempted to go after them. Yet at the same time she not only didn’t feel like running after anyone just now, she also found the people around her intriguing and thought she might still learn more about what may or may not have happened to the Athena by staying put.

OOC: Noting Ian’s split between “bar” and “chase”, I’ll help the split along by posting in both threads with separate characters. ;)

IC: The redhead stayed put, her expression full of curiosity. She eyeballed the two men she had been seen with at their table just to see the bigger of the two quickly depart the scene.

She turned back to the others at the bar. “Odd indeed. I’m assuming nobody knows anymore than the fact that the ship just disappeared?” She did not remark on the fact that she had just witness a chase in the making.

“Not me,” Viyara said simply, adjusting her position on the bar stool once again. This time to get a good look at the redhead. Locking eyes with her, lips slightly pursed and one eyebrow raised, Viyara asked bluntly, “So who are you?”

Meanwhile, Michael Conrad sat at table giving a hefty sigh as the man with him quickly left. “I need another drink,” he said out loud hoping a bartender or waitress would hear.

The bartender was all too happy to have a distraction so as not to have to answer any more questions about Athena’s disappearance and turned to the redhead saying “What’ll it be?”.

Karina came back to find she had lost the bartender’s attentions. Sighing, she finished her drink and wandered out of the bar. She was far enough behind the others she probably wouldn’t even catch a glimpse of them.

Thinking of that, she glanced around… no Ky’Larria. She sighed once more. So much for being a spy. She was glad she only had to deal with patients on her biobeds and not track them down. She was way out of her element here. Moving into the hall she decided she’d go check in and see if she could get a bead where to go to next. She reached the turbo lift and headed for the office where she had last seen Stone.
