There was no hesitation, even now in this oddly empty state. The Vulcan knew something had broken, but whether or not he was damaged, he wasn’t sure. There would be time enough to assertain that later. He took a knee near the Caitian and nodded. “What must I do?” Va’rek asked softly.

-Va’rek
OOC: Channeling is a conscious act for her, she can’t do it unless she’s conscious. Right now she’s not, she looks like she was in a deep sleep.
- Laraan

Stark looked at the Vulcan, “Hold her hand for me Va’rek, hopefully, she’ll sense it and draw whatever she needs. She’s out but the stimulus might help.” He looked around in frustration, “I hope we get to a med bay soon,” He bent to her ear and whispered, ‘Come on Ran, come back to me.’

Aurora and Laraan sank down next to the trio both looking exhausted. Laraan stroked her mirror sister’s head put her other arm around Aurora and murmured “I was alone and now no more”. She looked at Stark’s expression and gave a small smile, “Now I understand why you helped”.

The Vulcan’s hazel colored eyes met Stark’s for a moment, and he nodded. As he reached to take Laraan’s limp hand, he hoped that whatever needed to happen would happen. He wasn’t sure he had strength enough to reach out and join her mind, or if that was something Laraan would even allow. For a split second, the crippling self doubt returned… but Va’rek ignored it and tried to trust Stark’s direction. Gripping her hand, Va’rek closed his eyes and waited.

Kaylee stood in awe, watching the scene unfold all around her. While she might not understand everything that was happening, there was no denying the wonder of the moment. Her eyes looked up to the sky, wondering what was to happen next.

-Kaylee Baxter

In the milling crowd there was a flash of blond hair and for a second Barbara Baxter waved a beckoning hand.

As her eyes gazed the crowd, Kaylee did a double take. Was that… her mother? The surprise confused her, why wouldn’t there be a counterpart to her mother here, when she had already come face to face with her own doppelgänger.

Making her way through the crowd, she approached where woman cautiously… (OOC: I’ll move this to a proper side sim thread for us Ian)

-Va’rek

Stark’s voice and the other multi-layered voice sounding like hers, caused a flutter in Laraan’s closed eyelids. As Va’rek took her hand she felt his energy without drawing from it - it was just too much of a tabu still to draw from another human being. But his energy felt familiar for some reason.
Finally she opened her light grey eyes and immediately seeked out the pitch black of Stark’s eyes. The corners of her lips quirked up as she saw mirror Laraan next to Stark.
“Wh… We look good together.” she whispered. “But you’re mh.. mine.”

  • Laraan, CMS

Stark sighed a little in relief, “That’s my girl,” he said stroking her arm with his paw. “Va’rek here has agreed to give you some energy should you need it”.

Looking down on her mirror twin, Laraan seemed haggard and old, drained. “I envy your bond Laraan, as I envy the universe you come from”.

Kingston tore her attention away from the orb, though it was difficult. A part of her (the insatiably curious part) wanted to reach out and touch it, but she pulled her hand back before she did something stupid. Shifting her position closer to Izzy, she looked over the security officer. “Are you alright?” Janna asked, her vivid green eyes searching Delaney’s face.

OOC: Sorry to ask this, but one question. Who or did anyone remove the CNS from Liam’s hold? Last I wrote, he was holding her and checking her vitals, but I don’t see any clear statement in the replies that she was taken from him. I might’ve missed it in the catch-up. He would’ve allowed it because he has no idea how to help her and I wanted to double-check to be sure and note where he was in the scene.

-Janice B.

OOC: She’s still lying there, but only just woke up. Most of us haven’t really moved positions much because the Athena is under attack and can’t beam us up until they can drop shields. Which should be soon I think. ~Linds

In the night sky, there was a soundless explosion and then everyone exclaimed at what seemed to be a comet coming through the atmosphere. There was a rumble of disquiet as people started to realize a clear and present danger.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Ghubari looked about the room and saw not a ton in the way of cover. And there was certainly no place for them to go. The Athena couldn’t beam them up if their shields were up and until they heard back, they could only assume that they were stuck down here for now. While the inferno streaked through the sky Ghubari mentally a shrug. If she died here today, it would be something she couldn’t do anything about. Her work, her task was done and she thing she prided herself on (protecting her crew), she could only vaguely do, so she moved over to Konral and stood beside her husband, her mind strangely blank. Maybe it was a touch of shock after the intensity of the last few days. Maybe she was just beyond fatigue. Whatever it was, she drew strength from his presence.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

As Liam continued to prop the counselor’s form up, his attention had been drawn to the skies. The night illuminated with the explosion which then streamed off into a single tail of something falling toward the planet. In Liam’s mind, it appeared they had failed to achieve their goal and the wraiths had won. Their reward, the destruction of the world.

The CSO inhaled as he silently considered his fate, reflecting on his past life. He hoped Joseph had remained safe and sound on the ship. He also knew his family would prosper in his absence and remember him kindly. The older man accepted the fate of dying because it happened to everyone. In silence, he continued to watch the looming destruction stream toward the planet.

Stark positioned himself over Liam and Laraan, a futile gesture but one he did out of instinct.

Seconds stretched on for years, and then

steaks of fire lit up the sky, explosions boomed across the valley, then sudden silence as if the whole universe held it’s breath. Slowly the stars came out, the danger was past.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

She knew what she was seeing, but Ghubari had to take an extra moment to process what was happening.

=/\=Athena to Away team. Standby for Commander Luka=/\= the NE at the Comms said.

~NE, Comms

Good! Koraia was desperate for news and this waiting around had been untenable.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

=^=everything is safe but I am not confident in beaming you up with the current technological situation. We can send down a runabout to pick you up if needed.=^=

Luka, XO

=/\=We should have enough space. Consider us on our way up. Koraia out.=/\=

“Alright folks, time to go home. Stark, Laraan and Isabel, you’re in first and immediately to Sickbay. Don’t even try arguing,” Ghubari said with a knowing smirk. “Anyone else with injuries, Sickbay should be your first stop as well.”

The Captain ushered them all into the runabout(s) and they were quickly on their way.

OOC: I figure we can just expedite the return given we know we make it there. lol. Let’s wrap this baby up!

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

Stark allowed himself to be bundled into a seat and waved cheerily at his Captain, “No arguments from me” he said definitively.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Laraan mouthed a ‘thank you’ to Liam and V’arek, reaching with one hand to touch Stark’s fur. They were going home, and Merydith was safe, as was the universe.

  • Laraan, CNS

The Vulcan nodded to Laraan and Liam, then he turned and looked at Stark as if he would say something, but he stayed silent. Then he looked up at the stars, looking lost.

-Va’rek

Relief filled the CSO when the looming doom died and things appeared to be brighter than before. In a moment of weakness and darkness, he accepted whatever fate had for them. The idea of dying among his fellow crew didn’t fill him with dread for long. Instead, he held pride and gratitude.

His eyes lowered to catch Laraan’s mouth move. He nodded, accepting the thank you, and followed the CO’s instruction. It was good fortune that no one had been lost during the mission. At least, from what he knew.

–CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci

“Yes Captain.” She said as she loaded herself into the roundabout. Isabel may not have died trying to protect Laraan, but she had been kidnapped and drugged, beaten several times, and then had to fight her way out of a dangerous situation with zombies. Not exactly your everyday work shift. She wasn’t about to argue with the Captain about needing medical attention. She knew she needed it.
