It had been for her, a very long day. First, she had been security detail for the Conference. Then she had been nearly blown up, shot at and kidnapped. Held captive, beaten (and boy did she feel every part of that one), transported to another person to be held captive, beaten again (ouch), saved people including her mirror self, went out in a blaze of shooting against a mob of monsters, and then all that had happened here on Risa. She had died, or should have from that blast. It was her job and she had been prepared to do what was necessary to save lives… always had been and now, sitting on the dias, she found herself unscathed and alive. She felt stumped; lucky to have lived through that, but also feeling like her brain had not really caught up to the reality.

Until it caught up, she decided she didn’t want to sit her by herself. Everyone was reeling from the end of their own personal battles so she didn’t expect others to make a fuss over her. Besides, what fuss could there be if she was unharmed? Another incongruity her mind was struggling with. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD I THOUGHT YOU DIED! was kind of expected and yet not received because she was safe. The Prophets had seen it fit not to let her sacrifice be the end of her. It wasn’t as though she needed accolades for saving a life, but it felt weird not to have it noticed. She shook her head. This was just weird.

Izzy had done her part though, quite a big part and she took pride in that… solidarity in that… calm from that. She had done her job and that was all she really needed. Let her mind percolate on her expectations vs reality at some other juncture. For now, she stood and looked for her mirror self.

Isabel appeared from the gloom as if bidden by a force beyond thought. She walked right up to Izzy and slipped into a hug with her twin. Stepping back she grinned “Damn fine security sacrifice there sister, wished I’d got there in time to do it myself”.

Family was family and though this was a mirror of Isabel herself, it felt like family to her as they wrapped each other in a warm hug. She smiled a bit ruefully at the other woman who’s face matched her own, though the hair did not. “Nice haircut.”

Running her hand over the buzzcut Isabel grinned cheekily, “Sleek, all the better to beat you in a race”.

Then a thought occurred to her and she didn’t know if the answers would haunt her or help her to fight through the pain she felt every day. Since that day in a Cardassian Prison facility, she missed her oldest brother Aiden. His death had been the spark of a rebellion in her that had caused the death of many of her enemies as well as cost her her career in the Marines. The haunted look in her eyes now could not be hidden, not from basically herself. She looked up and swallowed hard. “Is.. is Aiden alive here?”

Delaney, Sec

Instantly divining what the question meant for her twin Isabel looked almost guiltily at the ground for a moment before replying. “He is,” she said simply, “Thanks to you we all got out of that infernal machine”. Conflict filled her face and she went to speak again but then couldn’t find the words.

There was suddenly a lump in her throat and tears sprung to her eyes. She may not have been able to save Aiden in her own universe, but she had saved him here. She closed her eyes and tears fell down her cheeks. Izzy nodded, not knowing if she felt relief or envy that this Isabel still had her brother. Would this series of events help her to have less panic attacks or nightmares? Only time would tell she supposed.

Izzy took in a deep breath and let it out slowly before she opened her eyes to view her twin. She grinned, wiping away her tears and trying to be less of a downer. “I can’t imagine what had to have gone down to get ALL of the Delaney clan offspring captured. Must have been some serious plan!”

Delaney, Sec

Isabel grinned, “We got lured out by false intel on a Cardie smuggler, turned out to be a trap, they took down our fighter’s shields and beamed in anaesthezine gas. cowards didn’t even come to get us in personal combat”. She snorted, “I’m sorry about your Aiden, I can’t imagine what that must be like.” Her eyes said she wanted to know more but was too afraid to ask.

“Cardies,” She said with a shrug, trying to play it off as though it was not terribly traumatizing to think of the prison camp her and her brother had been taken to. As though it wasn’t traumatic enough to have lost her her position as a Marine and placed her in Star Fleet’s exploratory division. “Captured during a rescue mission. It wasn’t pleasant.”

She paused and her eyes hardened as did her jawline. “They paid.” She ground out.

Delaney, Sec

“Of course they did,” Isabel said seriously, “If they hadn’t you would have come after them until you stopped breathing, we’re not that different in that respect mirror sister”.

“What about your other brothers?”

She had to agree with her mirror counterpart. It was part of the reason that she had been demoted and moved from Star Fleet Marines over to Star Fleet proper. She was not remorseful about her actions that night. It took a long time to forgive herself. Having been drugged to the gills, grieving over the torture and death of a beloved brother and mentor, and in extreme pain herself due to her own torture at the hands of the Cardassians, Izzy had let go of the fact that she could have done nothing else than what she did.

“They are all well and good, Marines to the last. Happy, healthy, totally rockin guys. What about yours?”

Delaney, Sec

“The same, other than the lack of the marine tag, over here were called “Freedom Fighters” or at least we were up until we gained our freedom, now I guess we’ll have to come up with a new name”. She grinned, “Any suggestions?”
