It was always a mixed bag for Jenn emotionally when she entered a Sickbay for the first time. Either she was there to meet her boss or to meet the people left over from the last boss. But the fact that she wasn’t here to be a medic actually pleased her quite a lot this time. Although she enjoyed medical, there was something special, something exciting about stepping through these doors and knowing it wasn’t going to be these four walls around you every duty shift for the next who knew how long.

She stepped into Athena’s Sickbay with a confident step, glancing around with the eye of someone who knew what they were looking at. It was a nice Sickbay. She pushed her glasses up, glanced around, and spotted a tall man with brown hair and the right number of pips on his collar. He didn’t seem too busy - he’d just stepped away from one of the nurses, so she approached. “Hello,” she said, smiling. “I’m Commander Wallace, here for my boarding exam. If you’re busy I can wait.”

Wallace, XO (Incoming)

Benjamin looked up from the PaDD the nurse had handed him and turned to face the new arrival. He smiled “Ah yes, welcome aboard Commander” He turned to the side and raised his hand towards the nearest biobed. “I’m Doctor Benjamin Grey, Chief Medical Officer” He introduced himself “I’ve been looking forward to meeting you, It’s always good to have another Doctor on the ship, even if not in Sickbay” He walked with the woman towards the bed.

Jennifer nodded with a smile, although there was an odd note to the smile. “It’s odd, this is the first time I’ve stepped into a sickbay on a ship I’ve been stationed to and not been walking into my place of work.” She looked around the room. “You have a tidy Sickbay,” she commented, the approval clear in her tone as she stepped over and sat down on the biobed. “While I’m here, would you mind if I asked about the Captain? I read her file, but I’d like to hear it straight from a medical colleague. From what I read, it seems clear that Captain Koraia takes care of her crew, but what I want to know is if she take care of herself?”

Jennifer Wallace, XO

Benjamin gave the woman a half-smile “Of course” He went under his coat and grabbed his medical tricorder, removed the wand and started the regular scan cycle “The Captain is a rather interesting medical case but nothing far too difficult. She’s a proud and sometimes stubborn woman but she understands the need of taking care of herself, I try to keep a close eye on her as we’ve had a few rather taxing missions of late. Overall I don’t think she’s prone to overexerting herself without needing to.”

Jennifer’s scan showed nothing out of the ordinary. Healthy and fit. She kept herself well maintained, although there was the typical symptoms of built-up stress that any CMO might expect to possess. There were only two odd things about his new Executive Officer. Her records showed that her regular vaccinations had only been given after her admittance to Starfleet, and the framed spectacles she wore paved way to the discovery that she had quite the case of myopia. Nearsightedness. She watched Dr. Grey with a slight tilt to her head as he worked and as he explained his impression of the Captain’s approach to self care. The woman nodded along with his words, keeping her head still when the wand passed over her head. “So, how do I look, Doc?”

Wallace, XO

Benjamin put the wand back in its holster, tapped the scanner a few times before closing it and putting it under his coat “Well you are fit for duty at least, although I’d recommend some relaxation, perhaps some soothing tea or something similar, perhaps a nice visit to the Holodeck.” He said with a slight smile “I understand that being a first officer is no less stressful than being a CMO.” He looked examined her spectacles with interest “I have to say I think you’re one of the few people I’ve met that are nearsighted, it’s a rare affliction for certain.” He looked away for a moment as if he were reading something in the distance “You’re from New Canada, yes?” He asked without waiting for an answer “Small colony?”

Jennifer pushed the lenses up her nose slightly, seeming a little awkward about it. “Not a lot of resources that far from the core worlds. Didn’t have the money to send away for the drugs and such needed to fix the eyes before they got bad as they are, so,” she gestured towards her glasses. “And by the time I got to Starfleet, it was too late to actually fix them. I go back and forth between Specs and Contact Lenses, depending on the needs of the day.” She rolled her shoulders back, letting them crack slightly. “I guess a little relaxation would be nice… I think a small part of me was hoping this job would be easier. No luck, eh? I think I’ll be fine after settling in…” she muttered, looking around.

Cmdr. Wallace, XO

Benjamin nodded “Well this job is mired in tedium and repetition and occasionally about 12 or so hours of madness, extra body parts growing, homicidal holograms, natural birth” He said with a slight smile. He took a step back giving the new first officer some space to get out of the bed “During your years of medical training I assume you considered corrective eye surgery and decided against it?” He asked in a more clinical manner, this was different from asking a layman their personal opinion, now he was asking a professional.
