Stark stepped into the light and bowed slightly from the waist.

“Welcome aboard, Jennifer Wallace, I am Stark”.

Wallace startled slightly, then smiled at the enigmatic Caitian. “Thanks… you don’t… Please don’t bow,” she replied, shuffling on her feet slightly and making a mental note to mention this funny moment to Shess. “Stark.. that would make you the Chief of Intelligence, yes?”

“Correct” he said quietly.

She was glad suddenly that the others had convinced her to read the dossier on the senior staff. Hopefully it would smooth her usually awkward way of interacting with people and make her look half as competent as her superiors seemed to think she was.

Wallace, XO (Incoming)

“This is your first posting as an XO if I’m right. How are you feeling about it?

“To be honest, a little nervous!” Jenn gave a slightly nervous laugh and reached up to adjust her glasses slightly. They’d been around for two millennia and humanity still didn’t have a way of keeping the darn things from slipping down your nose. “But I’ve moved up from CMO, hopefully being in charge of Sickbay to being second in command of an entire ship. Some might say I’ve moved down a rank,” she chuckled. “I used to be able to force the captain to take a day off if they weren’t respecting their health!”

“True” Stark said with a smile, “I think you’ll be fine. Taking care of a ship as CMO and being XO aren’t that different in my book, both require making stubborn people do what’s best for them”.

Jenn readjusted her grip on her small bag, slinging it over her shoulder. “Would you walk with me? I’m eager to see the captain, my new quarters, and everything else I need to take care of to settle in here on the Athena.”

Jennifer Wallace, XO

“I’d consider it a privilege”, Stark motioned to the corridor, “Shall we.”

“Let’s hope my winning personality can get a bunch of department heads to listen to me when it comes to it,” Jennifer said with a small grin, then started to walk. “So, Lt. Cmdr. Nightstalker, what kind of ship is the Athena? I know, I know. I read the reports. The files… at least what wasn’t heavily classified. Man, you guys have been through a lot in the past… while. Half the things in your past few mission logs were inaccessible to my clearance levels, which kinda scares me if I’m being honest?” she glanced down a hallway as they passed it. “I’ve never been on a classified ship before. I only found out I was coming here about 12 hours before the transport showed up to take me to the Athena. That’s… well, it sets off quite the impression, that’s for sure.”

Cmdr. Wallace, XO

“We’re the best” Stark said without preamble, “Koraia runs a ship built on loyalty, professionalism and innovation and that’s why we get the assignments we do. We’ve got each others backs and we pull off the impossible at least twice a month”.

Stark’s dark eyes nailed Wallace in an ebony stare as they walked, “That means that when you’re part of this crew we’ve got your back too, let that sink in”.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

“That’s nice to know,” Wallace said with a slightly nervous chuckle, hand lifting to scratch at a spot on the back of her neck. “It’s good to know I’m coming into an environment where people support one another. Just gotta hope I last longer than the previous XO, right??” She chuckled again, still the same nervous tone. “I hope she’s okay. She looked a little… shaken.”

“Personal reasons” Stark said without letting anything else slip, “and as for lasting longer, all we need to do is take one day at a time and that will happen in due course”.

The woman let her hand fall back to her side as they reached a turbolift. Pulling out a PaDD, she glanced through the map displayed on the device, then stepped into the turbolift. “This is, I think, the turbolift that’s going to take me to my quarters. As I mentioned, didn’t have much time to prepare or memorize the layout, so I’m going on trust right now.”

Cmdr. Wallace, XO

“I’ve never been one to trust turbolifts myself, they have a tendency to break down just when you need them most”.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

“Well, I don’t feel like walking all over the ship to get where I’m going,” Wallace replied with a small chuckle. “So, I guess this is goodbye. It was nice meeting you, Nightstalker,” she said, and the turbolift doors slid shut.

Wallace, XO

Stark nodded in benediction and left on silent paws.
