SNIP

Liam watched the doctor drift from him toward the medical supplies. She dug in then collected a bandage and returned. Her hands wrapped it temporarily around the older one. He stood in silence as she worked. Once she finished, her attention turned to the other patient, and started her treatment. The older man quietly rolled his eyes at Karina small joke, but he didn’t chide her. It wasn’t a harmful intention after all.

Once she saw that Marishka was comfortable and set, she turned her attention back to Liam. Grabbing one of the trauma trays, she came back and set it beside him. “So how did this incident happen? I’d ask if you were pushing yourself more than you should, but I also know you do.” She glanced at him with a soft, understanding smile. “You realize, now that I’m back, that I’m gonna hound you if up fall behind again, Liam.” She cautiously removed the gauze she’d placed on his hand. A quick local pain blocker and she set to carefully cleaning and inspecting the hand to see just how badly he’d hurt himself.

“It’s just a simple cut. I was trying to repair a loose wire and I cut myself during a distraction. I’ve had a lot on my mind since the last mission.” Liam stated in a calm, but a tired voice.

He continued while he watched her examine the cut. It was shallow enough not to damage tendons or bone but still affected the muscle underneath. Bits of dirt had gotten fairly deep into the wound though. Fresh blood oozed out during the examination.

“The Little Bastard-Dr. Grey’s name, not mine- has been restless. I hadn’t realized how much radiation I’ve used until I went to check my doses today. I’m at a loss of how to resolve it.”

OOC: Medical records indicate the parasite is influenced by Liam’s emotions. This is both consciously and subconsciously, but the later hasn’t much evidence to confirmed it yet. Karina can do some scans and ask questions which can lead her to that conclusion. Marishka could also help which could allow for more future interactions.

Karina smiled and nodded. “Sounds like The Doc.” She winced, apologizing for the deep cleaning despite the fact the pain block should keep him from feeling everything but the pressure. “There, sorry. It’s clean now.” She set the dermo regen and started the slow back and forth rhythm that would heal the wound. “We need to make sure we get you back on a regular regime. Then we can see about stabilizing you again.” She smiled and tapped his forehead. “You need to stop forgetting. If I have to, I can schedule it during work so you remember every day. Or you pick the time and I’ll hunt you down if you don’t make it.”

She watched the skin regenerate and glanced over to be sure Marishka was doing all right at about her halfway mark.

Liam listened then sighed a bit. Karina was right of course, he needed to stop forgetting and getting sucked into his work. He watched a moment longer as she cleaned the wound then began to patch it.

“A schedule might help. My shift keeps changing, so it would have to be the same time every day. What time would be best for you?” He tested his hand to ensure it still worked properly. Naturally it did.

Karina smiled as she watched him flex his hand. “How about 1700? If you work first shift, it gives you time for a snack before treatment, since you shouldn’t do it on an empty stomach. And if you work second or third shift, hopefully you will be up and have just eaten. How’s that?” She set the tools away in the drawer and took his hand in hers to look it over once more. “And I think we definitely need one now. When was the last time you ate, and what was it?”

“Sounds reasonable/ 1700 works since I’m usually early,” Liam stated as he watched her.

His eyes narrowed in thought, but nothing immediately surfaced in his mind. In fact, he didn’t even feel hungry despite not eating the whole day.

“I’ve actually not eaten all day. Joseph brought me something, but he was called away and I got distracted.”

Nodding at his reply, she held up a finger. “Let me help her get out of here and we’ll do your treatment.”

Moving over to Marishka, she smiled. “About done, I think. How do you feel?” She waited for the timer to go off and held a hand for the instrument.

Marishka took in a few deep breaths after she was done with her treatment.

“I feel like I need a glass of water but that’s about it.”

Karina smiled. “Hang tight…” She stepped away to the replicator and came back with a tall glass of water. “Drink it slow. I don’t want you choking. Is everything else going all right? Anything else I should be aware of for your records?” She was focused on the woman, now. And making sure she was all right was her priority. Picking up the PaDD she began making notes. “Oh! You work in the lounge. Sorry I didn’t notice that before.” She smiled up at the singer. “I admit I haven’t been in there, yet. Not much of a crowd person. But I’ve heard lots of great things about it.”

She felt bad for having not realized that was where Marishka worked. She realized, now, that despite being back, she still hadn’t gone to several places on the ship.

Marishka took a few slow drinks of the cool water before answering.

“Yes. I run the lounge with a staff of wonderful volunteers from every department on the ship. You would be surprised at the hidden talents people have. We’re never closed and I’m usually there. Come by any time. As far as my health, no. I don’t think there’s anything else that needs attention.”
