“Starfleet Medical for about two years. I think it was to groom me for a department head posting and give me a chance to start my PhD dissertation. It was interesting the variety of cases you’d see on Earth. It ranged from people being shipped back to work on trauma from some horrific mission gone wrong to people afraid of heights after going mountain climbing and then getting injured because they didn’t use any anchor lines.” Séan broke eye contact long enough to retrieve his tea and took another sip. “How long have you been on the Athena Janna?”

Janna sipped her coffee. “About four years now. Which depending on the day feels like forever ago or just like yesterday since I arrived. I didn’t exactly arrive under the best circumstances and the crew has had a time of it since. Well, long before that too. They keep us busy,” she said with a lopsided grin.

“Are you excited to be taking the next step in your career?” she asked.

“Oh yeah.” Séan responded with a short nod. “I mean that’s supposed to be the dream right? Work up the ladder? Get more responsibility?” He grinned at Janna wryly. “I figure the career will work itself out. I’m more interested in doing the best I can to assist people in the way they need wherever I end up. I am happy to be assigned my own department but that’s completely secondary to my patients.”
