For a moment Ghubari seemed amused. Then again, there was so much weariness behind the smile that perhaps she was just reaching the point where everything was amusing. She reached her hand out and rested it on his shoulder. “In some form, I imagine so. But… stand down, Ben. We’re home now. We’ll figure things out. Thank you,” she said softly.

Koraia exhaled. “I should go visit with a couple of your patients too.” ANd with a nod, she moved away.

Benjamin gave the Captain a curt nod, moments after she left he allowed himself to exhale some of his tension away if the Captain said he could stand down then it was safe. He only gave himself a moment, however, moving directly to a nearby patient.

Ghubari gave Marishka a questioning look and a nod as she passed. Much to say and much to organize later but for the moment that needed to just all take a deep collective breath. Baseball still in hand, she moved over to T’Pon, and couldn’t help but smile at the new mother and child. “I guess this makes me a Great-Aunt, doesn’t it?”

“Indeed” T’Pon had a smile that put the sun to shame, “Thank you for all you did to return my daughter to me, it is comforting to have an Aunt with such determination and resources at her disposal”.

Ghuabri gave a wry grin. “I’m not sure you know the half of it T’Pon,” she said, her amusement great. For a person who seemed to fluctuate between being the universes’s punching bag and pawn, Ghubari had to admit that there was a certain humour to everything at the moment. But she reached out and very gently caressed the head of the infant who rested in her mother’s arms. “Welcome to the Athena little one. Your family is vaster than you yet know,” she said softly before looking at T’Pon again. “Have you two chosen a name yet?”

“Meryidiyth” T’Pon said quietly the name coming out like a benediction and the clash of a distant gong all at once. S’Raal looked up from where he was working and his eyes glowed amber in the lighting.

Marishka gave Ghubari a nearly imperceptible nod and made
a mental note to keep a bottle of good whiskey nearby for when the Captain eventually showed up at the lounge.

Stark was still under observation and was getting decidedly “antsy”. “Am I good to go?” he said a bit plaintively. “I mean, I was just a little run down is all”.

Marishka looked pointedly in Stark’s direction and smiled.

“Oh I don’t know. Maybe they ought to keep you longer.” she said good naturedly.

Stark looked at her with a grimace. “I do believe you’re enjoying this milady” he put on a Cockney accent for effect, “I fink you’re enjoying yaself far too much”.

Marishka was certain NE Lee was in S’Raal’s capable hands so she walked over to Stark’s bedside and took a seat.

“And what would ever give you such a silly idea?” she asked with a genuine smile.

Stark was one of the few people on board she could occasionally share one with.

  • Marishka

Stark replied with a broad smile of his own. “Probably because if the situation was reversed, that’s what I’d be thinking. Apologies for painting you with a Stark brush, I guess I’m projecting some embarrassment considering I got into this mess by being sentimental”.

Her primary task accomplished, the weary CO moved through Sickbay silently, took one final look about the space knowing her crew would handle the last few critical issues, and then departed, as if slipping away into the shadows. She carried the baseball in her hand is if her life might depend on it one day.

T’Pon “Gardener”

Marishka raised and eyebrow.

“You? Sentimental? I can’t believe such a thing. Well… Maybe in certain cases but, really Stark.”

Her eyes slid to S’Raal and his young family then back to Stark.

“Hence the embarrassment” Stark said breezily, “I’m going to have to harden up or my rep won’t be work a 20th century data chip”. He looked over at the happy family, “Scene’s like that one are half the temptation to soften up” he said with a smile, “Such things are worth protecting, they give me hope”.

Marishka nodded slightly.

“Hope is worth protecting but you can keep your 20th century data chips. Terrible things from what I’ve heard.” she said with a laugh.

  • Marishka

Stark chuckled, “So how are you faring after all the excitement?”

Marishka sighed and gave Stark a look.

“I’m still here so that says something. I think I will be fine.” was all she could think to say.

  • Marishka

Stark looked her in the eye sensing the uncharacteristic melancholy. “You look like someone who’s been abandoned, and often…”

Marishka knew this man to be the ship’s CIO but he was probably a lot more than that. Weren’t they all? Wasn’t everybody, aboard this ship, more than what they appeared to be?

“Would you expect a lady to speak of such things in public if a lady had such things to speak of?” she asked quietly.

As Marishka was getting ready to speak again, Ensign Lee walked over to the two of them very nearly her bubbly self again.

“Well Ma’am, since I’m free to leave, I’m going to go meet Rob in his quarters for a drink. Maybe if I ask him nicely he’ll come take a look at that replicator for you so you don’t have to ask…” Lee paused noticing Stark, “Um… Um… The Chief Engineer.”

Marishka put an arm around the young woman and gave her a gentle squeeze which also served to turn her towards the door.

“Go, go. I can deal with Orvos myself.”

The Ensign nodded and left quickly as Marishka turned back tot he conversation.

Stark had waited patiently for the ensign to leave knowing full well that silence only enhanced his reputation.

Carrying on from where they left off he simply smiled slightly and said, “I wasn’t implying that you had to talk about it, just that someone noticed, understood, empathised and stood by you in it. I apologise if you felt exposed by the comment”.
