Karina smiled as she watched him flex his hand. “How about 1700? If you work first shift, it gives you time for a snack before treatment, since you shouldn’t do it on an empty stomach. And if you work second or third shift, hopefully you will be up and have just eaten. How’s that?” She set the tools away in the drawer and took his hand in hers to look it over once more. “And I think we definitely need one now. When was the last time you ate, and what was it?”

“Sounds reasonable/ 1700 works since I’m usually early,” Liam stated as he watched her.

His eyes narrowed in thought, but nothing immediately surfaced in his mind. In fact, he didn’t even feel hungry despite not eating the whole day.

“I’ve actually not eaten all day. Joseph brought me something, but he was called away and I got distracted.”

Nodding at his reply, she held up a finger. “Let me help her get out of here and we’ll do your treatment.”

Moving over to Marishka, she smiled. “About done, I think. How do you feel?” She waited for the timer to go off and held a hand for the instrument.

Marishka took in a few deep breaths after she was done with her treatment.

“I feel like I need a glass of water but that’s about it.”

  • Marishka

Karina smiled. “Hang tight…” She stepped away to the replicator and came back with a tall glass of water. “Drink it slow. I don’t want you choking. Is everything else going all right? Anything else I should be aware of for your records?” She was focused on the woman, now. And making sure she was all right was her priority. Picking up the PaDD she began making notes. “Oh! You work in the lounge. Sorry I didn’t notice that before.” She smiled up at the singer. “I admit I haven’t been in there, yet. Not much of a crowd person. But I’ve heard lots of great things about it.”

She felt bad for having not realized that was where Marishka worked. She realized, now, that despite being back, she still hadn’t gone to several places on the ship.

Marishka took a few slow drinks of the cool water before answering.

“Yes. I run the lounge with a staff of wonderful volunteers from every department on the ship. You would be surprised at the hidden talents people have. We’re never closed and I’m usually there. Come by any time. As far as my health, no. I don’t think there’s anything else that needs attention.”

  • Marishka

Karina smiled with a nod. “I’ll definitely have to do that. Well, everything seems in order. I recommend checking with the Doc in about 48 hours so he can give you final clearance to begin singing again. But till then,” she winked, “you’ll have to rely on your good looks.” She laughed and hoped it was taken as the compliment it was meant to be. The woman really was pretty and Karina was sure the singing wasn’t a crutch for her, but a boon. “And I’m looking forward to hearing you when it’s possible once more.”

“When you are ready, you can leave anytime. And remember we are just a comm tap away.” She smiled once more and made sure Marishka didn’t have anything else she wanted to say.

Marishka slipped off the bed, stood, and stretched.

“Everywhere I’ve worked I try to take the stage a few nights a week just to keep in practice so, I think you’ll catch me up there in about forty nine hours. Thank you and good night.”

  • Marishka

Katrina laughed. “Then if you’re cleared, I’ll do my best to see you then. Have a good evening.”

Waiting till the woman was gone, she moved to the cabinet to get Liam’s treatment hypo. The were some kept in all major medical locations in case he needed it in a hurry.

Coming back, she smiled. “You know, it’s silly. But little things like your treatments, were things I thought of while you guys were gone. I wondered if you we’r getting them. I wondered if Doc was reading. I even wondered how many times NE Brownstein was going to medical looking for ways to get out of duty on Fridays.” She settled beside him and nodded. “I’m glad you guys are back and ok.” She held the hypo ready to inject it once he bared his skin for her.

“Ready when you are. And we’ll get you back on a regular schedule, too. I don’t like that you’ve been missing them while I was gone.” She smiled to let him know it was sincere concern and not a tongue lashing he was getting.

Liam remained in his seat on one of the biobeds. His hands found his lap as he observed the two women interact, their conversation loud enough for him to overhear. Once Katrina finished, she moved to a cabinet to retrieve a familiar hypo. In the past, he would’ve scoffed or shrugged off her concern. Now he found it to be warming and charming in its own way.

“I had started to get the hang of it before the mission. When we got back, things hadn’t quite been the same. I had hoped tossing myself into work and ignoring everything would help, but it hasn’t.” Liam sighed then rolled up his sleeve, his skin exposed.

“Ready.” He readied himself for the injection.
