Stark was feeling very fidgety. It had been over a week since he’d been in mortal danger and he was deathly bored.

“Run Stark Training Scenario Beta, difficulty level normal”.

Stark took a moment to savor the forest smells of the clearing that had just appeared. The Kusarigama in his hand was a new weapon he was trying to master and he had designed this one specifically for his fighting style. The sickle on the end of the chain was a little smaller and half-moon shaped and the metal weight at the other end was essentially a small mace with wicked points.

He spun it in his hands experimentally and then trapped it under his foot, then spun it again as he danced in circles finally sending it out with a satisfying thunk into a nearby tree. Flicking it out again he spun it around a branch and ran up the tree launching off into space in a flying swinging circle around the tree finishing the maneuver with a deft flick of the wrist that released the blade which snapped back into a waiting paw.

Stark’s smile was wide, lazy, and vicious. He looked at the weapon with something akin to fondness, “Oh yes my dear, you and I are going to do great things together”.

The door slid open and a figure moved in with silent steps. Watching Stark for a moment, she grinned. “I approve of your killing things on the holodeck. It gets messy on the rest of the ship and they’re just working on cleaning the carpets…” she said with a hand on her hip.

Stark’s grin became even more vicious.

Izzy had noticed the holodeck doors opening for the Captain and watched behind her as Stark did his routine with a new and interesting weapon. She grinned at Koraia’s words. “What’s the joy in being who we are if we cant stain a few carpets.” She walked in behind the Captain and winked at Stark. “I like that weapon. ITs like a mix of two ancient weapons. Can I see it?”

Koraia didn’t reply, though she almost quipped that she had had enough stained carpets and could do without the worry for awhile. But she bit her tongue, her pale amber eyes gazing elsewhere and taking in Stark’s chosen setting.

She was glad she was wearing casual clothing. She just hated being on the holodeck in uniform. This was a nice surprise for her free afternoon. Perhaps Stark wouldn’t mind company during his holodeck time.

Stark handed the weapon over so Izzy could get the feel of it and smiled at Koraia. “Useless in small spaces, but outdoors in places like this,” he pointed to the forest, “it gives you options and more importantly, reach. You’ve got to make one that suits your size and style and if I’m honest I often nearly decapitated myself with it while becoming proficient. However, if you persevere, this design has some surprises for anyone who is dumb enough to come in reach.”

“I can imagine,” the captain said, highly amused as she gazed at her chosen brother.

Stark wasn’t normally this verbose but he was warming to his subject.

“I had a friend add a power pack to the small mace at the end so the whole thing can act as an electromagnet for further options in city and ship situations where there is lots of metal”.

He suddenly realized he was gushing a bit and stopped, finishing off with a small smile and a final comment.

“I like weapons”.

“Never would have guessed, Ndugu,” Ghubari said, smiling. No matter the circumstance, and no matter what trials they faced, she knew she could always trust and count on Stark. She hadn’t exactly sought him out in this moment, but his presence had pulled her towards him as she had taken a walk about the ship. It was easy for her to get ensconced up on the bridge or in her ready room and right now she could feel the strange energy across the ship from their last traipse into places they weren’t normally supposed to go.

He chuckled and then took the weapon back from Izzy. “Well, Dada, Izzy. After the last mission, I feel the need to do something normal. In about 3 minutes there are going to be a few foes coming at us through the trees. I’d kill them all myself but that’d be a bit selfish, care to lend a hand?”
