Marishka had taken a seat with Stark and S’Raal. She was able to watch everything from that vantage point which was another reason she had escorted them there upon their arrival.

Glancing around, she caught the eye of one of her volunteer staff and nodded appreciatively at the young man. She had assigned him the task of keeping a record of everybody’s promotions so that she could personally congratulate them throughout the evening or at a later date.

Stark allowed himself a brief luxurious moment of relaxation. Having carried the burden of Intel for so long these moments were few and far between but with R’han, Orvos, and Marishka nearby he deemed that whatever might arise they’d handle it without the need for preemptive strikes.

The doctor blinked twice, again in surprise, looked down and for a full two seconds just stared at it before reaching out and grabbing it. This time he managed a more genuine smile. He cleared his throat “Thank you, Captain” He said with an earnest look and a slight nod of his head. He looked at the crowd for a moment then walked away from the center of attention. Hurriedly he returned to his drink, taking a sizeable gulp to calm his nerves.

Janna snuck in, having arrived late due to their ever constant workload but she didn’t catch the tail end of Ben’s promotion and smiled. Taking up a spot in the back corner so as to be unobtrusive during the ceremony, Kingston watched with her ever-present curiosity.

So Madison and Grey received a commendation and promotion respectively. Orvos was curious how the rest of the proceedings would go as he kept a careful eye on Marishka and others who had made an impression on him. He hadn’t yet seen Janna, so he kept careful observance for her arrival. He continued to listen as the captain called out yet another name.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

It was always interesting to watch how people responded to promotions and awards. The earlier ranks came with far more excitement even though they were less important in general.

Ghubari couldn’t help but smirk at Ben as he beelined for any place that was not in the centre of attention. Scanning he crowd, she honed in on her next target. “And keepign within the department for a moment, Karina Niles, up you come,” she said, locking her gaze on the doctor.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

Isabel watched as the Captain started her speech and commendations. IT would be nice to have that commendation in her file, a little something to recognize her effort in the last mission. She could still feel the moment of impact that would have killed her had the Prophets not brought her back unharmed. She shivered and took a sip of her drink.

Karina almost spilled her drink as it came up to her lips. Her? A bright crimson lit up her cheeks as she set the glass down and headed for the small dais. As she stepped up, she managed to curb her nervousness enough to nod to the others then to the Captain. “Ma’am…” Forcing herself to stop biting her lip, she stood beside the Doc and tried not to look out at everyone looking up at her. Sure, she’d been on a stage and gotten promoted at graduation at the Academy. But somehow, this seemed different. Most personal. And a bit like being under a microscope.

Doctor

Koraia’s intense gaze was almost patented at this point. Rarely harsh (unless needed), but always searching and longer than most people were comfortable with. This time wth Karina was no exception as she considered the doctor. “Ensign Niles… it’s come to my attention that on several occasions your work has drawn attention. All good attention you should know. And given how intense our last couple missions have been for the medical department, it is not unexpected that many would be called on to do more. But within any group there are those that persevere under even the most difficult of circumstances.”

The captain reached for a little box and opened it. “Ensign Karina Niles, though you were on loan elsewhere for a little while, you returned to us with the same determination to jump into the fray. Your dedication to this ship and its crew is beyond reproach and therefore I am happy to promote you to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities therein.” She pinned the hollow pip on to Karina’s collar and offered her her hand. “Congratulations, Lieutenant.”

Stark nodded, as cogs in the machinery of the Athena went, Karina’s actions were becoming more important by the day.

Benjamin flashed a smile to his junior officer, Karinna had always been an important part of the medical staff and he was glad that she was being recognized for it. He made a mental note to gather the other doctors for a celebratory drink or twelve.
