Hammor had settled down for the evening, but his mind was restless. Something was nagging at the back of his mind and he couldn’t grasp it…

He was missing something. Something important. Five days aboard and he was getting in the groove, but something was missing.

He got up off the couch and went to his desk, and started going through his ever-present list of tasks. Nothing. Nothing eased his mind. Getting frustrated, he stood up nd went to the bedroom. In the closet, he retrieved his gym bag. “Haven’t checked out the gym, no time like the present.” he thought to himself. As he walked out of the bedroom and into the living area, his gaze happened onto the model of the USS Manhattan, his first posting as Chief Operations Officer… and he stopped dead in his tracks. He knew what was missing, and the thought made his throat close up and his mouth go dry.

Faye…

He had known her less than a week… and that was going on a year past. “She probably doesn’t even remember me…” he mumbled, even as the memory of their one and only meal together in the Officer’s Mess came unbidden to his mind.

He missed her. If he was honest with himself, he would admit he had since he left, but that was a part of himself he typically kept well in check… until just now.

Sure, he had thought about her quite a bit right after he left the Manhattan. But she was in the Delta Quadrant… so far removed as to be almost fictional. But… Hammor knew she had helped design and install the communications relay that allowed subspace calls through the worm hole. And he knew it was functional, or at least had been when he left, so…

The bag fell to the floor and he took three giant steps and plopped down in the chair at his desk. Tapping some commands into the interface, he requested a subspace channel to the Manhattan. It took a few minutes, but soon the face of a young Deltan appeared. =/\= USS Manhattan, Commander. What can we do for you, sir? =/\= she asked. =/\= Patch me through to Lieutenant Faye Calloway, if she is available please.=/\= The Ensign nodded and in a moment the screen showed a rotating Star Fleet icon as the call was relayed to wherever she was on the ship.

The sleep aide had helped. It had been more than a cat nap and in fact she had managed a few hours of sleep before her mind had drifted into the bizarre place that was her subconscious. And it was there that sleep became a dangerous thing.

This time there was no one to wake her from her night terror.

Throwing a light grey oversized knit sweater over the form fitting black garment, Faye padded out into her living room. “Computer, time?”

=/\=The time is 0207 hours.=/\=

“Great,” she muttered. Going back to sleep was unlikely, and it was too early to call the counsellor as the captan had instructed.

But then a beep at her computer told her there was an incoming call. Frowning, Faye moved over to her desk and sat down, her brows lifting as she saw it was coming from the USS Athena. That was odd. She didn’t know anyone there. And it was rather a coincidence that she was even in her quarters. For all this person knew, she was still in the brig under charges and the call would have gone unanswered. Despite looking exhausted and very much like she had been through the ringer, Faye reached out and opened the call, her curiosity once again getting the better of her.

~Faye Calloway, Data Specialist (USS Manhattan)

As the screen came to life Hammor saw Faye for the first time in many months, and for a minute he froze before he stammered “Fa- er, Lieutenant Calloway? I don’t know if you remember me… Daggum Hammor? I was on the Manhattan? We arrived pretty close to the same time? I was the new Ops Chief and you had just come on to install the new comms relay. Which… uh… I guess was successful.. since… we’re uh… talking… now… and everything.”

His brain screamed at him to relax and he took a deep breath and calmed himself a bit. “I hope I didn’t wake you. I had no way of knowing what your ship’s time was at the moment…”
