“Watch for a hold on your left,” Ghubari said as she stretched up and pulled herself farther along the rock face. It was a fair distance down to the bottom, but she had never been scared of heights so it didn’t bother her.

Glancing over at her climbing companion, there was a gleam of mischief in the CO’s eyes as she watched Viyara for a moment. After meeting on the starbase and finding the other woman amenable to a little adventure, she had invited the scientist to join her on the holodeck. A very unusual offer, all things considered. After all, Fleet Captain Koraia was not someone most brand new junior officers got to spend time with socially. But if anything was true lately, it was rules were meant to be broken or discarded entirely.

Today seemed to be one of those days.

Having followed the lead that the computer gave him, Séan found himself in front of the entrance to Holodeck Two. It was occupied obviously and the readout showed the a rock climbing program was running. Rock climbing was a good exercise activity if a bit risky and danger seeking if the safeties were turned off… and he thought the Captain was likely one to up the risk factor. Should he use his medical override to gain access and make sure she wasn’t being careless? He didn’t really know Ghubari well enough to get a grumble followed by a pardon for a breach of protocol like that. But wait, was the door even locked? Thinking to this point he tried the access button to the holodeck and was pleasantly surprised when it opened for him.

With a ‘huh’ of surprise, Séan entered the holodeck and looked around before he spotted that the Captain wasn’t alone on the wall of rocks. Not wanting to break their attention and be a cause for an accident, he waited until they weren’t moving but eyeing their next step. “Hello Captain!” He said loudly up in their direction.

“Uh oh, busted,” Ghubari whispered to Nazeen, the gleam in her pale amber eyes rather evident. Depending on how Iven handled this, she might get away with having the safeties off… or she might not. Glancing up, the sun beat down, basking them in lovely warmth, much like she was accustomed to back home in Tanzania before it got too hot later in the day.

Viyara giggled softly, a mischievous smile playing across her pale face. Holding tightly onto the “natural” handholds, she turned her head and twisted her torso enough that she could look down at the man standing below them, wondering what had brought him here.

Dressed in black leggings, and a dark purple tank top, Ghubari’s trim figure was easily outlined against the pale tan rocks. The half-Napean looked down. “And hello to you too. Fancy some climbing?” She shot Nazeen a conspiratorial look.

Séan looked quizzical for a moment, though whether the women could see it for the distance between them was another matter, and then realized what the Captain meant. “I have to track her down and then climb after her?” He mumbled to himself wryly with a grin. With a chuckle he kicked his shoes off while also peeling off his shirt. He came to the bottom of the cliff face and eyed the protuberances for a minute to pick out a path before he jumped and caught a handhold. After making sure that his grip was solid he then pulled himself upwards and got his feet secured. “Good thing I did a fair amount of power lifting in the Academy. It’s not the easiest thing in the world to haul my body weight up a cliff face.”

After watching Séan for a brief moment, Viyara reached for another piece of rock with her left hand to continue upwards. Dressed in black, knee-long leggings, black and dark purple climbing shoes and a black tank top that was basically a sports bra, almost all of the tattoos on her body were clearly visible. Along with the majority of her Trill markings. From her movements it was clear that she was no novice in rock climbing. And the fact that the safeties were off only enhanced the joy for her. When she had received Ghubari’s invitation, she had hesitated for a brief moment. After all, spending social time with your (new) Captain, was something she didn’t usually do. Then again, most of her previous Captains would never have done anything like this. At least not with the safeties off. So before she could think too much about it, she had said yes and hoped that it wouldn’t mean she wouldn’t get in trouble when she kept the safeties off as well. At least with Ghubari.

Looking over at Ghubari, Viyara asked, “Should we wait for him, or keep climbing?” Considering that she had already continued climbing, it was probably obvious what she thought they should do, but since things were going well between them, she didn’t want to ruin that. Usually her relationship to her superiors wasn’t as easy going. Her file spoke clearly off that. Though there was clearly more to the scientist then her file told at first glance or she would never have been allowed to join the Academy or would have been discharge before now.

Well, that was the question, wasn’t it? It went without saying that this was an unusual situation for Koraia. Normally, she was a by-the-book kind of person with the mental flexibility to bend (or break) the rules consciously when needed. Now, it was more like a mental shrug and a ‘why not’ sort of head space. “I suppose we should wait, but I’d rather reach the next ledge. Safer that way.”

“Sounds good,” Viyara replied simply and without looking at Ghubari while continuing towards the next ledge.

Calling back down, Ghubari seemed amused. “We’re going to climb the next few metres to a wide ledge and stop there to wait for you. But, uh, if you’re not much of a climber I might suggest you take extra precautions. the safeties aren’t on,” she said nonchalantly.

Séan tilted his head as Ghubari made known their plan to get the the next ledge. Her words regarding the safeties being off didn’t surprise him in the least, though it did give a bit of insight into her mindset… maybe both of theirs. “Don’t mind me.” He called back before reaching for his next hold and pulled himself higher. His climbing ability was steady but certainly wasn’t quick, so he’d likely arrive to the ledge a good few minutes after them.

It didn’t take Viyara long till she reached the edge of the ledge and with a few well-practised moves, she pushed herself up and onto the ledge. Rising to her feet and then turning around she stood right at the edge, beaming from ear to ear. Spreading her arms wide, she yelled, “Woo-hoo!” Clearly not caring about what the other two might think of her.
