The new Operations Chief made his way through the passageways and to the lift and went straight to Medical after getting the reminder. Stepping off the lift, he walked down the passage and into the main sickbay.

Looking around, he was impressed by both the size of the area and the staff. While not busy, there was definitely activity going on. A few patients lay on biobeds and a few figures in the blue Medical uniforms walked to and fro. Hammor held his hand up as one came near, and stopped them long enough to ask “Excuse me, who do I need to speak to about my boarding physical?” The Ensign looked up at Daggum and smiled, then checked a PaDD. “Let me see, sir… if you take a seat on biobed six, I will let the doctor know you are here.” Hammor nodded and did as instructed, the bed letting out a small groan of protest as his bulk settled on it.

Hammor, Ops

A few moments later a tall thin man in, a doctor’s coat, with surprisingly broad shoulders walked towards the newly arrived Operations Chief. Well to most people he would be tall but next to the hulking Orion he was almost a head shorter. The Doctor stopped about a meter from the larger man, gave him a once over, looked at his PaDD then back at Hammor “Lieutenant Commander Daggum Hammor” He stated matter-of-factly. Now that he was close enough Hammor could see his unusually intense emerald eyes “I’m Doctor Grey, I’ll be administering yer examination.” He put his PaDD down and grabbed the medical tricorder, removing the wand from its holster, and started waving it mechanically across the Ops Chief’s body “Any new injuries or changes that won’t be on yer file?” He asked.

Hammor shook his head and said “Nope, not a thing, Doc. No injuries or illnesses to report. Feeling pretty good, actually.” the big Orion said. The scans showed nothing unusual at present, but the tricorder did note multiple healed fractures… dozens of them… as well as the presence of scar tissue in more than several locations on the man’s dermis. All of that was backed up by his rather sparse medical record. In fact, save for regular physicals and a higher number than average of onboarding exams; it seemed the Operations Chief rarely, if ever, visited Sickbay.

Hammor, Ops

Benjamin returned the wand to its holster and read the results carefully. He mentally went over the man’s medical records but brought them up on his PaDD after getting the feeling that there was something missing, his feeling was wrong it seemed. He looked at the Operations chief and smiled briefly “Do you often decide against seeking medical attention to injuries?” He asked his voice remained professional.

Hammor looked confused and replied with an audible “Huh?” and he thought a moment. “No, Doc. I mean, if I get hurt you go to the doctor, right? Thats just common sense.” and then a look of realization came over him. “Oh… your looking at the fractures. Well done, Doc. Most don’t look that far on a simple on boarding. No, those are from before Star Fleet… childhood and teenage years. We… well… I… didnt have doctors to go to. When I got hurt I either healed or I didn’t.” he explained. “Other than that, fit as fiddle, as the saying goes.”

Hammor, Ops

Benjamin nodded with understanding. Being raised on Earth the idea of not being able to have immediate access to medical assistance was as foreign to him as poverty or crime. “Good, I don’t have time for any more people who think the Sickbay is optional” He took a step to the side “But besides those fractures, I think I can safely say you are very fit for duty. There was a notation in your file about occasional bouts of insomnia, does that still occur?” he asked.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Hammor nodded. “Yep. But I can usually make sure they aren’t problematic with meditation. Stress and anxiety tend to be the trigger, so as long as I can relax a bit every few days, then they aren’t bad at all… usually just makes it hard to wind down. I can only remember one time they were bad, and that was when I got to the Academy… so its been a while.” and he chuckled.

Hammor, Ops

Benjamin nodded at his answer, tapped a few things in his PaDD before putting it in his coat pocket “Well if they ever do get bad don’t hesitate to come here, I do have some experience in treating insomnia that isn’t sleeping pills” He smiled a little “Well unless you have any questions for me I’m declaring you fit for duty, you seem to be in excellent condition, Commander.”

Hammor slapped his thighs and said “Thanks, Doc. Much appreciated. And if I need help, I’ll call you first. Now that that is done, it s my turn to question you.” and he chuckled.

“I am preparing to resupply the ship top to bottom, so I need any outstanding requisitions you have pending… and also your Departmental ‘wish list’. Things that you think would make Medical better but don’t have the justification for at the current time. Dream big, ok? I have a lot of leeway right now to get new equipment, new supplies… so now’s the time to let me know so I can try to get it for you. And the faster you can get me that list, the more time I will have to find and get it.”

Hammor, Ops

Benjamin leaned into a nearby console as he considered the mans’ offer “Well we usually get most of what we need when it comes to medical supplies. My requisition order only has refills for our basic medicine used and all our equipment is still in top working order” He was thinking out loud “Our medkits have all the necessary devices. If I’d requisition anything beyond standard it would be wearable medical scanners. I’ve seen some in action at some medical conferences, having a free hand during emergencies can speed up life-saving procedures whilst also having the benefit of continuous tricorder data. That’s always been the next step, to be able to have a hands free scanner.”

Hammor grinned and hopped off the bed. “Perfect. How many and do you have a particular model in mind?” he asked. Oh, the station Quartermaster was gonna hate that… which made Hammor very happy.

Hammor, Ops

Ben shrugged “Well the WTR series should be stored away somewhere, I know there aren’t many that use them due to the bulky nature. A half dozen maybe a dozen should do, having two for each Sickbay and perhaps some extra for away team functions. Also maybe some parts and schematics for Engineering” He paused for a moment “If you do find anything that can disable a hologram I’d appreciate that. During our last mission, the blasted EMH tried to kill my patients and I like to have a contingency in place if that were ever to happen again.”
