Liam remained in his seat on one of the biobeds. His hands found his lap as he observed the two women interact, their conversation loud enough for him to overhear. Once Katrina finished, she moved to a cabinet to retrieve a familiar hypo. In the past, he would’ve scoffed or shrugged off her concern. Now he found it to be warming and charming in its own way.

“I had started to get the hang of it before the mission. When we got back, things hadn’t quite been the same. I had hoped tossing myself into work and ignoring everything would help, but it hasn’t.” Liam sighed then rolled up his sleeve, his skin exposed.

“Ready.” He readied himself for the injection.

Karina’s sigh mirrored his own. “I know what you mean. I’m having trouble finding myself again, as well. Something changed when you all were gone. I get the feeling I’m scared to ‘get back to normal’ for fear I’ll turn around and the ship will be gone again.” She laughed and pressed the hypo to his arm. “I guess I’m waiting for the proverbial ‘other shoe to drop’.” She removed the hypo and set it on the nearby stand before settling on the biobed beside him. “I’m guessing most of the ship is on edge lately. I can’t see it just being me. Well, and you.” She smiled and shook her head, then nodded to his arm. “You need to get back in a routine with these. Let me know when is a good time daily, and I’ll make sure I’m available. How’s that? Maybe we can see each other through this.”

She realized after she said it that it seemed like she was hitting on him. Hopping off the table, hopefully before he saw her cheeks redden, she picked up the spray to go put it in the resitter.

((Sorry about this, I forgot!)

Liam didn’t feel a prick when the radiation entered his blood. Immediately the creature relaxed and nestled against his spine. The CSO rolled down his sleeve to cover his skin again. He thought for a moment then nodded, stated a time suitable.

“I would say lunch. I tend to forget to break and it’s making some of the officers’ unease over my continual presence.” He suspected they found his lack of eating unnatural as even Vulcans needed substance.

Of course, Karina’s small blush went unnoticed by him. Through had he saw it, he would’ve smiled and reassured her he didn’t see it like that.

“I might’ve forgotten my next check-in appointment date. We wanted to see how the creature had developed and observe any changes.”

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

Karina smiled and glanced at her padd. “Well, it was yesterday. So, how about we schedule something for tomorrow. I don’t want to do too much at once.” She looked up at him and nodded. “Sound good? Maybe around lunchtime? We can check on the creature then see to it you get something to eat.” She felt it sounded a bit like an invitation or date. But then again, perhaps it was meant to. Her own mind had already been made up that she was tired of worrying about folks and not having someone in particular to worry about.

Bump to put back on board 1.26.21

Liam sighed. He acknowledged the fault lied with him as he took in the information and found himself disappointed with the answer. There was no denying he had put the check-up on the lower end of his list. Now he paid the price for it by missing the required date. When Karina suggested tomorrow, he nodded. It was logical to kill two needed tasks with one visit rather than spread them out and risk being missed again.

“I think that’s practical. It gets two tasks done and the creature will be satisfied enough not to create issues. The last thing I want to happen is it lashing out and Security being called.” He recalled both the last time he had accidentally starved it and his mirror counterpart’s behavior.

“Thank you, I do appreciate your help.” A small bit of warmth broke out onto his expression, but it was subtle.

“Suppose we’re done here? I’m sure it won’t take long before someone else rushes in here with a medical emergency or injury.”

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

She heard and saw the warmth and it made her smile. “I’m finished. And I doubt anyone is gonna come crashing in, but I don’t want to keep you. I recommend you take it easy the rest of today and don’t stress tomorrow till we are sure everything is ok. And maybe we can start working on a longer term, if not permanent, solution to this. How does that sound?” She turned and started putting her things away as she finished speaking. She kind of didn’t want him to leave, but knew he couldn’t stay there all afternoon and she did have other work to do. Much as she hated it.
