Daggum made his way from the bridge to the Counselor’s office. He had made an appointment, as he disliked when people dropped in on him unannounced in the middle of work.

Unlike many of his fellow Star Fleet officers, Hammor didn’t mind the Counselor part of checking in to a new command. He had always found Counselors to be helpful and useful in unpacking things one may have wanted to keep stored up. So it was with no trepidation that he rapped the chime with a big green knuckle and waited.

Hammor, Ops

The door opened to reveal a reception area where a large desk was placed with five different colored doors behind. Sat at the desk was a young woman who was looking towards the doorway with a warm smile. “Hi there I’m Cherry. How can we help you today?”

CNS Iven

Hammor stepped in and walked to the desk. “Nice to meet you, Cherry.” Daggum said with a smile. “I am Lieutenant Commander Hammor, the new Operations Chief. I have an appointment for my on-boarding assessment, I believe.”

Hammor, Ops

bump

“Of course, let me see who is available.” Cherry responded before checking the schedule on her terminal. She sent a message before turning back to Hammor. “Our CNS will be with you shortly. If you’d like to make yourself comfortable in the meantime…”

Cherry’s words were cut off as a door swished open and a large man stepped out of his office. He gave a grin and half wave to Cherry before he turned to the Ops Chief.

“Commander Hammor, if you’d be so kind to join me.”

CNS Iven

Hammor nodded in acknowledgement and then smiled at Cherry. “A pleasure, thank you.” and he followed the CNS into the office. As he stepped through, he looked at the man and said “Thank you, Commander. I’m glad you had an opening.”

Hammor, Ops

As Hammor stepped into the office he would see that there was a work station with terminal and chair not centered in the room facing the door but instead in a corner where the door was off to the side. There was a couch with a chair near it, a cluster of chairs off to another side, and a couple large beanbag chairs in another corner. Séan grinned wryly at Hammor as he pointed to his uniform pips. “Just a Lieutenant, but please have a seat. Can I get you something to drink?”

CNS Iven

OOC: Oops, read the wrong line for the rank. lol

IC: Hammor chuckled. “Sorry, Lieutenant. Habit. Last posting the Counselor was a Commander, and I dealt with them quite a bit getting specialty requisitions for some of the classrooms. Guess I got in the habit.” and he made his way to the couch and took a seat. “And no thank you, I’m fine.” and he looked around the office taking notice of the openness and style.

Hammor had moved around duty stations so much he had learned that someone’s office or quarters said a lot about them.

Hammor, Ops

Séan went to replicator and get himself a coffee before he took a chair next to the couch. “Did you visit your last Counselor frequently or was it more of a working familiarity?” He asked before he took a sip of his coffee, intending to give Hammor an opportunity to answer.

CNS Iven

Hammor said “I guess it would have been more of a working familiarity… but I did go see them a few times professionally. I’m not one to shy away from asking for help if I need it. And Counselors are a great resource for a ship to have. I encourage all of my staff to utilize Counseling services as they need to. Operations can handle a lot of things, Doc… but even we need help sorting out a mess from time to time.” and he smiled and relaxed into the couch.

Hammor, Ops

Séan nodded in agreement. “I would of course recommend everyone to come talk to us as often as they need or want. We need the business afterall. Though I am gratified to hear you value mental health and seeking help.” He paused a moment to take another drink before he continued on. “What do you think of the Athena so far? Where have you visited?”

CNS Iven

Hammor looked at him and his eyes narrowed slightly. He didn’t quite grasp the road their conversation was taking, but he was game. “Well, as I’ve been here less than twenty-four hours, I would hazard to say that I don’t know enough to make an informed opinion. But from what I’ve read, and the few interactions I’ve had so far, I’d say my preliminary opinion is favorable. I know the crew has been through it recently; but the fact that many if them still seem to have a sense of optimism and fulfillment I take as a sign of a solid team.”

Hammor, Ops

Séan nodded. “It has been interesting to see the crew maintaining good morale considering what they’ve been through in the last mission. There has of course been some who are still working through things but I’m optimistic. What sort of activities or hobbies do you like to do in your off time?”

CNS Iven

“Well, one of my passions is collecting old Earth relics called ‘comic books’. I find the characters and stories very engaging. And I also use the holodeck to hike and meditate. One of my favorite places is on Vulcan. It’s an old monastery high up in the Luk’tol mountain range. It’s really… I dunno… tranquil, I think is the right word. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit it in real life. Ten thousand steps to walk up to it. Took a full day. But it was entirely worth it.” Hammor replied and he smiled as he remembered the trip.

Hammor, Ops

OOC: I don’t remember if Vulcan was destroyed in the time-line the club is going by or not.

Séan blinked when he thought about ten thousand steps. “That certainly takes endurance to continue walking up a mountain all day. I’ve never been to Vulcan before but going up a mountain and just taking it in sounds wonderful. Do you do any hiking in a holodeck program or anything like that when you’re stuck on a ship?” He finished what was in his mug before setting it aside. His caffeine intake was a bit much lately but there were so many patients to see.

CNS Iven

OOC: Club’s main Timeline is Standard, so Vulcan exists. I believe the USS Chernov is our only Abramsverse ship.

Hamoor nodded in the affirmative. “Oh yes. I try to do that at least once a week, if not more. I collect programs of places that make for good hikes. I’ve also found that is a good way to meet and get to know people. Nothing like a few miles of mountain trail to get the conversation going.” and he smiled at the Counselor. “If you would ever like to, consider yourself invited.”

Hammor, Ops

OOC: Ah, thanks for the tidbit.

Séan nodded and grinned easily. “I’ll probably take you up on that. I don’t mind a long hike as I’ve got some decent stamina. I don’t go jogging or running though as it’s hard on a big body. Though I imagine you’d be pretty familiar with that. Do you do any other sort of exercise to keep that muscular?”

CNS Iven

Hammor’s face showed a slight hint of… embarrassment? Guilt, perhaps? Regardless, he continued. “Well, I am going to assume you have read my file. So in answer to your question… I am naturally muscular, more so than average for Orion males. But also exercise regularly… and I use the holodeck to… um… well…” and he took a breath. “I recreate some the fights I had growing up. I find it… cathartic, I suppose. Some I keep the same, some I change from time to time. I don’t do that often, though. Maybe once month or so. And usually when I feel my temper or frustration is getting the better of me.”

Hammor, Ops

Séan quirked his head to the side a little in confusion at the emotions that went across the Orion man’s face. He nodded slowly as Hammor explained why. “Working through one’s past is a healthy activity, even if it bears a little risk for injury. My questions then regarding this are: Are the safeties on? If they’re not, at one point do you terminate the program if you’re in imminent danger? I don’t mean like the sort of danger that inherently comes with a fight, but if you’re knocked down and the opponent or assailant is about to really harm you. What do you get out of revisiting fights from your past? I get that it’s cathartic to take on an opponent on your terms and show ‘them’ how it would go now. Is there a plan on eventually putting the past behind you and moving on?”

CNS Iven

Hammor nodded as the man spoke and when he answered it was clear he had a good head for keeping things straight. “The safeties are on, yes. Only ten percent lower than standard. That way I’m not in real danger. And yes, I hope to one day not feel the need to do it. I used to do it almost daily. But over time the need has lessened. As to what I get out of it? Well… it’s not about showing ‘them’ anything really. Its about giving me a chance to… I dunno… make amends to myself?” He looked out the window for a moment and composed himself. “You see Counselor, I don’t revisit fights I lost most of the time… I revisit fights I won. And when I change them…” and he paused and looked directly at the man.

“This time I get to let them live.”

Hammor, Ops

“Ah.” Séan said softly. “My apologies for reading into it without giving you the chance to explain first. I didn’t realize that these were previously fights to the death I’m glad that you’re able to approach a past experience like that but change it to where mercy at the end is the goal. The fact that your… compulsion, for lack of a better term, is becoming steadily less over time is also heartening to hear. Was this anything your previous counselor worked with you on?”

CNS Iven

Hammor shook his head. “No apologies needed. The first Counselor I talked to about it, at the Academy, thought the same thing at first too. And no, the last Counselor didn’t know I did it. I didn’t hide it… I just don’t think it ever came up.” and he chuckled softly. “Compulsion… yeah… thats the right word for it, I think.”

Hammor, Ops

Séan nodded his head slowly as he contemplated. “So what do you hope to gain by seeing me? I know it’s procedure and you need my signing off on your being fit for duty. I don’t see a reason why I shouldn’t… but, I also think that having some sort regular meeting schedule would be very beneficial. What are your thoughts?”
