Her long, dark fingers tapped on her desk and the corners of her mouth slowly pulled ever downwards. As she kept reading the message, her brows shot upwards and she peered at the screen. “Well then,” she muttered.

It was probably just as well that she received this message after she returned from her own vacation because otherwise she couldn’t guarantee how this might all go down. Correction. She always made her point very clearly, but the reception of that point was the variable she could never control.

=/\=Commander Hammor to the captain’s ready room,=/\= she paged in a steady even voice. Daggum might not know it yet but it was her ‘I’m going to keep a neutral tone in public’ voice.

=/\= On my way, Captain. =/\= came the immediate response. Less than two minutes later, the big Orion Ops officer stepped onto the bridge and went to the Ready Room door and pressed the chime.

“Enter,” Koraia called out, though she didn’t lift her head from the report she was reading at her desk.

Her ready room looked exactly as it had a couple weeks ago when they had first met, though Ghubari herself was perhaps a bit harder to read at first glance. “Have a seat,” she said simply.

Hammor nodded once and lowered his frame into a chair.

When she finally looked up, she took in Daggum with her pale amber eyes, looking rather unimpressed. “Care to hazard a guess at how many curse words were in the message I received from the Starbase?”

A smile tugged at the dark green lips, but he kept it in check. “Well, Captain… my record is thirty-seven. But I contest that because it didn’t take into account the number of references to my parentage or count the ones in non-Federation Standard.” he replied flatly. “But I will hazard a guess and say eleven.” he added, still professional. “If it’s more, than I owe the Dock Master an apology for underestimating his intellect and creativity.”

Brows lifting ever so slightly, she folded her arms before on the desk. For a moment though she gazed off to the side, her eyes finding the expanse of windows that allowed them to see the small bit of the starbase. When she returned her gaze to Hammor, it was pensive. “How do you expect this conversation to go, Commander?”

Hammor looked directly at her and maintained an air of professional demeanor, a subordinate addressing a superior. “Ma’am, if I may… I see this going one of three ways, as these conversations have done so in the past. One is you will side with the station’s staff and deride me for making their life difficult and taking liberties with regulations and protocols without looking at the full picture. Two is you will side with me and simply ask that I do not make life difficult for the station crew or take liberties with regulations or protocols again… knowing that I absolutely will if that gets the job done. Three, and this has happened only once but even as an outlier is still my personal favorite, is you will have read their report-slash-complaint-slash-temper tantrum; and you will now ask me for my side of what happened before rendering your opinion and deciding whether or not to thank me in private and scold me in public to appease station egos… which, by the way, I absolutely understand has to be done at times… or throw me off of your ship. Although…” and he gave her a long look of appraisal, “… I have no doubt that you could surprise me with a fourth option, Captain.”
