Michail sighed, “Well being that Viyara didn’t invite either of us I’m going to go on record and say that this meeting simply cannot be happenstance and Captain you will probably have guessed that I’m here in my official capacity”.

Koraia just stared at Michail for a moment before going, “Hmmm.”

He then turned to Viyara, “Sorry if that sounded offensive,”

Michail (Ship’s enigma)

Viyara snorted but didn’t actually say anything but simply glared at the two people standing in front of her. So much for her plan to play her reaction in the holodeck down and to pretend that everything was fine.

With a look of determination, Ghubari moved through the small quarters and sat next to Viyara on the small couch, very aware she might be crowding her. Turning her head slightly in the scientist’s direction, the captain smirked. “Welcome to the club. Not many people directly get the attention of DTI. I should know,” she said with a smile in Michail’s direction.

“Thank you?” Viyara asked as she shifted slightly to put at least a little distance between her and the Captain. She still didn’t know how to feel about all of this other than that she really wanted to be alone. Not to mention that she was still on edge after what had just happened on the holodeck. So more irritated than the situation probably warranted, she asked again, “Can someone please shed some light on this whole situation and tell me what’s going on and what DTI wants from me? I am not in the mood for games and this whole situation is rather frustrating.”

“You’re important to the timeline Nazeen,” Michail’s eyes were distant as if he was listening to a voice only he could hear. “As to the frustration, to echo the Captain, “Welcome to the club”“. His eyes softened a little. “My orders were specific, turn up at your door precisely when I did and answer any and all questions about DTI that you might have. However they haven’t chosen to share with me why you’re important of what you’ll do and if you think about it there’s a good reason for you not to know and an even better one for not spreading the word too widely”.

Michail (Ships enigma)

Viyara knew that she should have questions; other than the ones she had already asked. But other than those she drew a blank. Between everything that had happened both before and since she had returned to her quarters, she felt utterly overwhelmed and her usually sharp mind felt dull and sluggish. She knew why, but it still annoyed and frustrated her. After several moments of silence she eventually asked, “So I can ask questions about the DTI? The tell me, you said that they do more than clean up after time travel incidents, but what else do they do? What other purpose and all do they have?”

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

“Besides clean up, there’s prevention of things ever going awry in the first place. Then there is training at the Time Axis and probably most importantly protecting the Vault where all the illegal time devices are stored and the records are kept. Without that people would have the ability to wipe you from the timeline as if you had never existed… unfortunately that has been done on more than one occasion. I myself lost a loved one who I have absolutely no memory of other than her records are contained in the vault… keeps me awake at night”.

Michail (Ships enigma)

Viyara stared with a mix of scepticism and incredulity. She didn’t even know what to say; especially regarding the whole wiping people from the timeline thing. So she asked the one question she could think off. “What is the Time Axis?”

Koraia took all this in with a pensive gaze as she sat on Viyara’s couch. Her eyes shifted to take in the scientist and she offered Nazeen a soft smile. “It’s funny how things weave together. I’ve learned the hard way that sometimes you just have to go with it.”

Turning her head towards Ghubari, Viyara looked at her with defiance and anger written all over her pale features. But the Captain would be able sense something else: The fear that was hiding beneath the surface. “What if I don’t want to just go with it?” she asked sharply. The mere thought of just having to go with any of this, any thing in life really, terrified her. It felt like losing control and that was something she couldn’t let happen.
