Hammor turned his head kissed her head, a kiss that held more affection than the previous ones. Settling his head once again on hers, he said softly “Now you allow yourself to move forward, one step at a time. You start by being honest… with yourself, with those you care for, those you may have hurt… and you go on from there. It’s not up to us to fix the damage we have caused. It’s up to those we hurt in the process. All we can do is try, and hope the effort shows that we are sincere in our desire to make amends and move on.”

Viyara sighed softly and nestled close to Daggum. “I guess omission isn’t being honest, is it?” she asked thought fully as she pondered what being honest meant and if she really had to share everything when someone asked her about something. She understood why it might be beneficial to share and open up. Yet even though Daggum had demonstrated that being open with other could lead to something positive, she was still hesitant and afraid to even think about the possibility of repeating this.

Daggum shook his head. “No, not really. But sometimes it’s necessary. The hard part is finding that balance. It takes a lot of practice. And the trick is to err on the side of being too honest at first. And that is the really scary part.”

“Scary is the right word,” Viyara muttered with a humourless laugh. She then fell silent and pondered Daggum’s words for a few moments before asking, “How can I be open and honest if I don’t even know if I can trust someone?” In her mind she added, ‘And how do I know if I can trust someone?’

Daggum looked at her and smiled. “You have to get to know them. And… there are different kinds of trust. I trust the crew to do their jobs to the best of their abilities so that we are all as safe as we can be. That’s ‘professional’ trust. But the more you get to know people, the more invested you are in them and they are in you, the more trust you can have. If you don’t know if you can trust someone… get to know them. And the more you can learn to trust others and yourself, the easier it gets to tell who can be trusted and who can’t. I mean, you’ll still get hurt from time to time. Put your trust in someone and they break that trust. But those people are anomalies, not the rule.”

Daggum

Viyara sighed softly, but remained otherwise silent as she contemplated his words for several moments. She knew that he was right and that she really should try and trust people more. But all of that was a lot easier said then done. Though she knew that he was fully aware of that. So she refrained from pointing it out. After several long moments, she placed a tender kiss on his muscular chest and then looked up at Daggum. “I’m sorry this as turned into a counselling session and I’m sorry that we had a fight and for all I said earlier.” Of course she knew that she had already apologised for what she had said, but she still felt bad about it and thus felt the need to apologise again.
