OOC: I’m loose with this stuff so feel free to wing it, lol. As long as it sounds possible.
-Janice B.

IC: Joi eyes watched the CSO depart, leaving Nazeen and her alone to carry on. A small breath of relief exited her lips as she returned to focus on her given task. She knew easily that Officer Nazeen didn’t want her presence, but their department head had decided otherwise. The rules were expected to be followed unless logical reason outweighed them. At least, she thought to herself, he didn’t outright favorite certain officers over others unless they earned it. No excuses made as far as she had witnessed.

Despite her derailed mental state, Joi easily clicked with everything mentioned by Viyara. It was too bad the woman sounded a bit condescending in her approach and tone. Joi swallowed her pride as she let the woman go on.

“Okay, so what are you hoping will happen when the chemical reaction occurs?”

-Senior Officer, Joi Madi, Sci. (NPC)

“Have you heard about this new element that was recently discovered?” Viyara asked curiously. “Apparently they are still arguing how to name it or rather after whom.” She chuckled softly and shook her head a little. It was something she couldn’t really understand. The discovery of something like that would be amazing enough in her opinion. “Anyway,” she continued, “so far they simply call it element ξ [Xi] and I’m trying to find out how it reacts to different chemicals and elements. Right now I’ve added bleach to it. First at room temperature and then I heated it carefully. That’s when it started to change it’s colour.”

Joi nodded, her eyes continued to observe the experiment’s progress. The element remained in a solid mass as the heat began to form on the bottom. A small wisp of motion could’ve been noted, but unseen by the naked eye. Scanners would provide better readings, but it wasn’t Joi’s duty to mention that. She mused over how a bunch of well-educated individuals couldn’t determine an unimportant aspect like a name. No one would fully remember it unless it improved the next model of warp cores.

“You think they would be more focused on determining the element’s properties than what to call it.” The woman offhandedly mentioned then popped off a few questions.

“You’d think so,” Viyara admitted. “From what I’ve gleamed by following everything around ξ it’s a bit of an ego issue between the scientists involved. Everyone wants it to carry their name.” She gave a small shrug and then glanced at the tricorder that was sitting next to her set up.

“So Xi, are you looking for a specific reaction or just curious over the side effects? What do you know of it so far?”

-Senior Officer, Joi Madi, Sci. (NPC)

“Right now I’m mostly just curious to see how it reacts to different things,” Viyara said as she glanced briefly towards Joi before turning her back towards the liquid in the glas flask. “As for what I’ve learned so far: Not much I’m afraid. But I have collected a lot of data that I need to analyse. From just observing it I can tell that it reacts to bleach in combination with heat and I’m fairly certain that more happened than the colour change I was able to observe with the naked eye.” Straightening up, she switched the Bunsen burner off and said, “And speaking of data: I should probably clean up and get a start on that report I have to write.”
