Stark’s grin became even more vicious.

Izzy had noticed the holodeck doors opening for the Captain and watched behind her as Stark did his routine with a new and interesting weapon. She grinned at Koraia’s words. “What’s the joy in being who we are if we cant stain a few carpets.” She walked in behind the Captain and winked at Stark. “I like that weapon. ITs like a mix of two ancient weapons. Can I see it?”

Koraia didn’t reply, though she almost quipped that she had had enough stained carpets and could do without the worry for awhile. But she bit her tongue, her pale amber eyes gazing elsewhere and taking in Stark’s chosen setting.

She was glad she was wearing casual clothing. She just hated being on the holodeck in uniform. This was a nice surprise for her free afternoon. Perhaps Stark wouldn’t mind company during his holodeck time.

Stark handed the weapon over so Izzy could get the feel of it and smiled at Koraia. “Useless in small spaces, but outdoors in places like this,” he pointed to the forest, “it gives you options and more importantly, reach. You’ve got to make one that suits your size and style and if I’m honest I often nearly decapitated myself with it while becoming proficient. However, if you persevere, this design has some surprises for anyone who is dumb enough to come in reach.”

“I can imagine,” the captain said, highly amused as she gazed at her chosen brother.

Stark wasn’t normally this verbose but he was warming to his subject.

“I had a friend add a power pack to the small mace at the end so the whole thing can act as an electromagnet for further options in city and ship situations where there is lots of metal”.

He suddenly realized he was gushing a bit and stopped, finishing off with a small smile and a final comment.

“I like weapons”.

“Never would have guessed, Ndugu,” Ghubari said, smiling. No matter the circumstance, and no matter what trials they faced, she knew she could always trust and count on Stark. She hadn’t exactly sought him out in this moment, but his presence had pulled her towards him as she had taken a walk about the ship. It was easy for her to get ensconced up on the bridge or in her ready room and right now she could feel the strange energy across the ship from their last traipse into places they weren’t normally supposed to go.

He chuckled and then took the weapon back from Izzy. “Well, Dada, Izzy. After the last mission, I feel the need to do something normal. In about 3 minutes there are going to be a few foes coming at us through the trees. I’d kill them all myself but that’d be a bit selfish, care to lend a hand?”

OOC: Would it be okay if I join this thread with my security officer, Juvri? I just got back from an unexpectedly lengthy loa and I’m looking for some posting to do, aha…

Ghubari shrugged. “Why the hell not?” she said casually. “Just another day on the Athena, right? ” she said with a gleam in her pale eyes.

“Is this a ‘choose your own weapon’ affair, or are they supplied?” Koraia asked.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

Stark winked, “Glad you asked. The program is very interactive. I had a good friend back at Starfleet Command help me set it up. You can import weapons from other scenarios, program new ones, bring your own physical weapons or you can use any of the ones I brought”. He pointed to a very large looking canvas bag. “I have mainly short range close quarters weaponry with me in the bag today but I do have a modified Lirpa and a specially designed pole arm with a few surprises.” He grinned depreciatingly, “I’m expanding my repertoire”.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

“Pole arm for me,” Ghubari said, holding her hand out. Surprises would never be something she enjoyed but at this in this context and knowing they came from Stark it would be nothing short of interesting. Besides everything felt too up close and personal lately and a bit of distance felt appropriate.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

“Excellent choice”, Stark smiled and reached sinuously down into a long bag at his feet drawing forth a silver look Bardiche with two button on the mid handle. “The top button turns on a mini force field around the curved blade at the end enabling you to use it as a bludgeon as well as a cutting weapon. The second button releases or retracts a spike out of the end of the pole so you can ram it into the ground anchoring the pole thus enabling you to use the pole as leverage to spin your body around.” Stark winked, “Of course the spike on the end can have a multitude of other rather nasty uses as well”.

“Of that I have no doubt,” Ghubari said idly.

“Oh yes please!” She said contemplating which weapon she wished to use. She knew how to use several different kinds of weapons above and beyond those issued by Star Fleet. Did she feel like using a bo staff more distance combat? Or perhaps a Japanese Katana for deadly precision? Or did she want to get deep into the thick of hand to hand with daggers? Seeing as how Ghubari was using a Pole Staff and Stark would probably use his new weapon, she decided to go for a Japanese Katana and had the Holodeck provide one for her.

“This will be a treat. I haven’t used one of these for a few years.” Izzy said as she started moving the sword around to get used to its weight and balance.

“Looks like you know your way around it Isabel”

Stark looked at them with eager anticipation, “Ready to begin when you are. Just say the word”

Stepping to the side and swing the bardiche carefully, Ghubari allowed herself a moment to get acquainted with the weapon before she nodded. “I think I’m ready.”

The doors sprung open as a second Security officer made her way to the deck. Juvri hadn’t meant to be so late. But she had mistaken the time the training would be held at, and as soon as she realized, she’d dropped everything and rushed straight there. As soon as she stepped into the door, she paused. “Uh, I’m sorry I’m late… I hope it’s okay if I join you guys?” she asked, feeling like every eye was on her… even if they weren’t.

OOC Oops. missed the split, pasting this back in.
“Not a problem,” Stark said breezily, “We were just about to get started. Pick yourself out a medieval style weapon and we’ll let the hordes descend on us”.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Izzy grinned and winked at the Captain. “What kind of security officer would I be if I didn’t know my way around a weapon? I think it is ingrained in our DNA to love weapons of all sorts. We have our favorites and our least favorites, but in general, if it can inflict pain or death on a physical body by either my physical body or by extension of my physical body… I want to know how to use it.”

Nodding in approval Stark gave a low chuckle.

“I’m ready Stark.”

(Pasted in Juvri’s from the split.)

Stark nodded at them all, faced the forest, put his head back and gave a startling hiss that started low in his throat and then came out with a forceful sound that felt like it could shatter glass. The program obviously understood the signal as instantly there was a rustling in the trees as a horde of chimpanzee like creatures with long teeth and talons came at them from all directions at once.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Though her empathy was of no use on the holographic creatures, it allowed Ghubari to keep tabs on her companions and watch her position in relation to herself without having to move her attention away from the creatures approaching. Their teeth meant business and she didn’t want to test the settings on the holodeck today. Finding a relaxed stance with the bardiche in both hands, her right hand gripped above her left and was closest to the buttons should she want to try out the special features. For the moment though, she would take it as it came.

The captain stepped forward towards the creatures, unafraid and resolved, swinging when on came within weapon’s range. Her movements were graceful, like a little dance rather than perhaps a potentially gruesome fight.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

The trick to fighting these creatures was evident immediately. They were fast and came from all directions of the compass and elevation at once. The Bardiche took them down with each swing but there was always more coming. Way in the back Koraia would glimpse some of the creatures that were a little larger than the rest… and obviously hanging back.

Long toothed and talon baring chimpanzees… she hadn’t expected. It didn’t matter though. They were creatures for the purpose of a fight and they were going to get one. She turned so that her back was facing Stark’s. His position may change and she would have to watch for that, but this was a good way to start this fight. Isabel swiped at the oncoming monkey, testing its resolve as she cut into his arm. IT wasn’t deep but it would be a good gauge. Would these creatures keep coming after pain should have stopped them and if so, how much pain would be required? Or would they keep coming until they were all killed? Only Stark knew the parameters of this program, if he chose to allow himself that knowledge.

Delaney, Sec

The creature snarled at Izzy and then three of them came at her swinging themselves around and up and at her in a combined display of dizzying aerial acrobatics.

Stark shot up a tree that was in the centre of their group so that he could use his long chain weapon without fear of hurting his companions. As the long chain and sickle flew above their heads it was obvious he was trying to keep the creatures from dropping down on them from above. He struck again and again and blood started to fall like rain from the sky.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Ghubari watched the blood hit the ground. Splat! Splat! Splat!

Aware of where her comrades were, she stepped backwards. And again. And again until she was out of the fight, as it were. She set the bardiche down and quietly stepped away. “Carry on,” she said, just loud enough to be heard as she headed for space to call the exit. If the creatures attacked her, oh well, it was the holodeck. But she no longer had the stomach for this sort of program and she wasn’t sure she could explain it.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

Stark made mental note of the Captain’s departure. He would never ask her why, he knew if she left she would share the reasons if she had a mind and if she didn’t then that was her right. As the door closed behind her he abandoned himself to the fight. Life was simpler for him here, no shades of grey, no decisions other than kill or be killed, black versus white, good versus evil. He was happiest in combat where his demons were those that tried to kill him rather than the ones that haunted his dreams and could not be killed.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Izzy heard the “Carry on” followed by the holodeck door opening and shutting but she didn’t have time to wonder at it. She was suddenly set upon by three after simply injuring one. They had not come to play. She nodded to herself and began to work. Izzy wasn’t the type to stay in one place and defend it. Even as the creatures moved with aerial acrobatics, she too moved only, she tended to use whatever was around her, not just rocks and trees but the enemy themselves.

She ran at the gorilla who’s arm she sliced and stepped up and over him by using his arm, shoulder and head as stairs. Jumping down from his head, she twisted and brought her sword down the middle of his back, slicing down the spine. By then the three will have rushed where she was before and she could take them on as needed. WOuld they attack her all at once again or would they try something new?

Delaney, Sec

Warier now after watching their fellow butchered. they started to circle looking for an opening. It was obvious they were trying to divide and conquer.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Stark called out from above, ‘We’ve broken their confidence, now let’s take the fight to them. he leapt forward through the tree branches keeping close to the others but attacking the rim of the circling beasts. His weapon flashed in the overhead sun and his strikes were timed to the tune he was humming under his breath.

OOC: bump for Juvri. IF they do not respond in the next two days, I will pop in and answer.
