Standing in the middle of her quarters, Viyara looked rather disgruntled at the mess she had accidentally created. She knew exactly where she made the mistake and why, but that didn’t help her now. Right now she had to figure out if it was better not to inform anyone about the damaged dining table and carpet and just cover them with a table cloth and area rug respectively, or if she should inform someone. If she informed someone, she most certainly would get into trouble. If she didn’t, no one might find out till after she eventually transferred to another ship. Or someone might find out before than and ask why she didn’t report for. At least I didn’t set off the internal sensors, she thought to herself as she stared at her failed experiment.

For the longest time she just stood there and debated silently. Before coming here she wouldn’t have cared either way, but for the first time in a very long time she felt like she found a place that she might, eventually, call home and she really didn’t want to get kicked off the ship. Especially not for such a stupid, rookie mistake. Suddenly she had an idea and tapped her communicator to call the one person who might be able to help her get out of this mess. =/\= Nazeen to Hammor. Could you come to my quarters? I need your help. =/\= She knew she was being rather cryptic, but she didn’t know who else might be able to hear what she said.

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

A brief moment passed before the familiar voice of the Ops Chief came through. =/\= Understood. Give me twenty minutes and I will be there. =/\= and the line shut off.

In his office, Daggum paused in his review of the latest operations report to think. It wasn’t like V to ask for help, so that meant something had happened. Well, that or she was looking for ‘company’, but she wouldn’t play games like that. So, deciding that it was a legitimate call for assistance, he made his way out of his office and to her quarters. A few minutes early, he pressed the chime and waited.

Hammor, Ops

When Daggum pressed the chime, Viyara walked towards the door before opening it; hoping to block the view of her experiment gone wrong if it should be someone other than him. She was dressed in a pair of black yoga pants and a losely fitting, dark purple t-shirt with a wide neck, revealing her right shoulder. Her hair was pulled back in her messy trade mark ponytail. There were a number black smudges on her face, arms, hands and clothes and what looked like small burns on the hands and forearms.

With a sigh of relief, Viyara stepped aside to let Daggum in. “Thank you for coming and I’m sorry to get you involved in this. I don’t want you to get into trouble. So if you can’t help me, that’s okay.”

As he walked inside, Daggum would see that, for the most, part her quarters looked exactly the same as any other crew quarters and only a few items hinted at the fact that someone actually lived here. The sheets on her bed were of a deep purple colour with some sort of black floral print on them. A small pillow and a cosy looking blanket in similar shades of purple were draped on the small couch. A stack of PaDDs was sitting on the coffee table. But his gaze was probably drawn to her dining table and the remainder of what looked like a small chemistry lab. Whatever she had been doing, though, had clearly gone wrong and caused damage not only to her set up and her arms and hands, but also considerable damage to the table and the carpet. Not to mention the lingering smell of something that had been burning.

Gesturing towards the dining table, Viyara said, “I was doing a simple experiment. Something fun to unwind. But I wasn’t paying close enough attention and made a rookie mistake, blowing things up as a result.” Her lips pursed and her brows pulled together, she looked straight at Daggum, feeling angry and frustrated with herself.

DAggum looked at the carnage that was the failed experiment… the table… the carpet. He then looked up at the ceiling and saw the smoke marks across the area where the experiment had become… problematic. He then looked back at Viyara… and smiled and began to chuckle.

“Well, you certainly went all out just to get me in your quarters, V. You know you could have just asked me to come over, right?” and he laughed a little more.

Daggum

“Not funny,” Viyara replied a little more sharply than she had intended. Taking a deep breath she apologised, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to snap at you.” She then looked up at Daggum and continued, “Can you help me fix this? Preferably without writing a report? I can’t really afford getting into even more trouble, but I understand if you can’t. I don’t to get you into trouble because I wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing.”

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

“Oh, very funny actually. ‘Super smart forensic specialist blows up own quarters! News at 11!’” and he chuckled. “And for someone who wants my help, you sure are surly about a little accident.” and he smiled and walked over and inspected the damage. He looked around and said “Shouldn’t be too hard to replace. And nothing is dangerous or corrosive or anything, right?” he asked and looked back at her for confirmation.

Hammor, Ops

Following Daggum, Viyara replied, “I never really cared whether or not I’d get in trouble for something. I just made sure I wouldn’t cross any lines so far on purpose that I’d risk getting kicked out of Starfleet. But something has changed since I came here. And ever since that day at the restaurant and spa with you … I’ve been trying to follow all of your advice and to stay out of trouble. Yet here I am, messing up a simple experiment.” Gesturing towards the sad remainder of her set up, she added, “And no, it should be safe now. But to be on the safe side we might want to wear protective gloves while cleaning this up.” That said, she turned on her heels and got a pair for both of them form the replicator. Once back at Daggum’s side, she handed the larger pair to him and said, “Thank you for helping me Daggum.”

Daggum looked at her and smiled. “Gloves? How quaint.” and he waved her off and tapped his comm badge. =/\= Hammor to Palsey. Ensign, we have had a small malfunction in Science quarters berth 72-96 Alpha. Need a clean up and standard dining table. Oh, and new carpeting around the table. Copy? =/\= there was a pause and a voice replied =/\= Small malfunction, Chief? A new table and carpet? What was the small malfunction? A grenade? =/\= and then there was some laughter. Daggum smiled and said =/\= Meh, you know Science. They’re always blowing up or melting down or dimensionally shredding something. We’re just lucky it wasn’t like that situation we heard about on the Shambala. =/\= =/\= Oh damn… forgot about that. I don’t think they ever got the smell out of the life support system. So, yeah… okay, Chief. Hang on. =/\= and there was a pause, during which Daggum looked at V and smiled. A moment later, Palsey’s voice came back. =/\= Ok, Chief. Have the occupant leave the quarters and Services will be there in about twenty minutes. We’ll have it knocked out within the hour. =/\= =/\= Thank you, Mr. Palsey. I will have the occupant make herself scarce. Hammor out. =/\=

Shaking her head ever so slightly and rolling her eyes, Viyara kept the gloves in her hand and listened to Daggum’s conversation with Palsey.

He looked at V and said “There. Done. And seriously, don’t stress about this. You are nowhere near the first to do something like this. Usually it’s Engineers, though.” and he winked.

Hammor, Ops

Tossing the gloves onto her couch, Viyara took a step towards Daggum so that she was standing right in front of him. “Maybe I’ve become a little paranoid lately,” she said with a soft sigh and placed her left hand on his cheek. “Are you busy right now? If not, would you like to keep me company for the next ninety minutes or so?” she asked with a hint of mischief in her eyes.

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

Daggum smiled slightly as he looked down at her and his large green hands settled on her hips. “Well… I did just get off duty, so technically I am free until tomorrow.” and he pulled her close to him. “What, exactly, did you have in mind?”

Hammor, Ops

“Nothing specific,” Viyara whispered as she placed a kiss on his jaw. “Though, I’m not entirely sure when I ate last. So maybe we grab something to eat and then go from there,” she suggested. “I’m sure we’ll be able to easily find things to do.”

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

Daggum laughed softly and kissed her fully, then pulled away and said “Lounge or my place for a bite, then? Your call. I mean… we are supposed to have dinner, right?”

Daggum
