Stark smiled, “With you two on board how could I fail… and I’ll buy the first two rounds”. Stark set off and slid into a bar stool near the two security officers. Without speaking he looked them up and down his eyes curious but not yet hostile.

The two stared right back at him with the intensity of Entomologists who had found a new species of beetle.

With her uniform jacket wrapped around her narrow waist, Viyara slipped onto the bar stool next to Stark. But she wasn’t facing the bar. Instead she was sitting backwards, her elbows resting on the counter, her head turned slight to the side as she watched Stark and the mysterious twins. With an amused chuckle, she asked by way of a greeting, “Are you two new here as well? I only just arrived a few weeks ago. Shortly before the Athena came back from her last mission.”

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

Up close it was a little easier to tell them apart as one of them had a long scar under her right ear. She was the one who spoke and her voice was deep and earthy. “We are the Admiral’s aides. New would be accurate”. She looked at Stark, “What’s his issue?”.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Patting one of Stark’s paws gently, Viyara replied with a slight shrug and a disarming smile, “He is very protective of this ship and her crew and from what I’ve gathered since coming here … strangers have rarely boded well for this crew.” She hoped she wasn’t overstepping or crossing any boundaries she wasn’t aware off, but her interactions with Stark so far suggested that he wouldn’t mind. Assuming she had read him correctly.

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

Stark’s paw didn’t flinch at the touch and neither did his gaze shift until near the end of Viyara’s speech. “You’re right my dear, strangers of late have always spelled trouble”.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

The other twin snorted, “We don’t start trouble, we end it”.

A shadow fell over the two and a deep voice said “Sure sure… you’re real bada&^es, we know.” and the big frame of the Operations Chief squeezed itself between the two groups. He signaled to the bartender and said “A round for everyone. On me. Thanks.” and he then looked at the two figures. “Welcome to the Athena. And while you are here, maybe less boasting and more drinking, hmm? People are just making conversation, after all.” His tone was friendly and he smiled at them, but Daggum knew that sometimes words and attitude could cause more ‘trouble’ than intended.

Hammor, Ops Chief

That elicited a wicked smile from the original speaker with the scar. As for the speaker herself she looked at Hammor intently and then turned to her sister and stated for the record. “I like this one, can I keep him?”

Her sister shot her a warning glance and subconsciously fingered the scar on her face. “My name is Yami Senso and my rather forward sister is Izanami. We spend most of our time guarding the Admiral so social niceties aren’t our forte, stoic glares are more our thing”.

Orvos happened to be fixing yet another replicator, quietly across the room, but keeping a careful ear on the conversations present. He had caught the sound of Stark and turned in closely as he worked.

He also wondered when Marishka would quit breaking the replicators so he could show up to fix them.

OOC snorts at the replicator gag, haha. The Party will end up being here so I’ve changed the name of the thread.

The Orion Ops Chief smiled at both in turn and said “Yami. Izanami. A pleasure. I’m Lieutenant COmmander Daggum Hammor, Operations Chief. This is -” and he nodded in the direction of his friends, “- Ensign Nazeen of the Science section, and Commander Nightstalker, our resident Intelligence Officer.”

Hammor, Ops

Yami nodded to all in turn leaving her sister to her inch by inch appraisal of the Orion specimen before her. “Intelligence Officer, that explains the stare. The Admiral will be joining us shortly, I’m assuming this place is secure?”

Starks eyes were still suspicious, “Normally I’d say yes but after some of the things we’ve been through lately we’ve discovered that you have to have an extremely good imagination to be able to account for all the variables. Let’s just say we’re secure against all known threats”.

Daggum looked at Nightstalker and said softly “Ease it back a bit, Commander. Whatever you say to them, expect the Admiral to hear it, too. So… all niceties and generalizations.” and he gave the CIO a wink.

“Kind of what I was going for”, Stark said quietly for Daggum’s ears only, “Their records are clinical to the point of being scrubbed, cleaned and anaesthetised. Provocation hopefully will lead to some enlightenment”.

Turning to Daggum, Yami continued, “It’s our understanding that this cruise will be all about R&R, to be honest we’re not familiar with the procedure. What does R&R normally look like on a Starfleet Vessel?”

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist
OOC FYI once the party gets rolling and more people arrive I intent to split this thread with people being able to drift from one conversation to another.

Start Nightstalker CIO

Daggum looked at Yami and said “Depends on where the ship is, I suppose. But usually its a rotational thing if the ship is at a R&R location. Shifts rotate off when not on duty, reporting back so that others get some time off. Some take leave so their vacation isn’t interrupted. Just depends on what the Captain allows.”

Benjamin entered the bar having just finished his shift. Another tonsillectomy, he was surprised how many Starfleet officers still had their Tonsils when it should have been removed ages ago, stubborn assess. He looked over and saw several of the department heads speaking with two officer’s he didn’t recognize. They smelled new. He moved to the group, waving for a drink behind the bar “Commanders” He nodded to the Intelligence chief, Ops chief and Engineering Chief “Ensign” He said to the Scientist “Strangers” He said to the two others. He was handed a glass with brown liquid “These the admiral’s entourage?” He asked no one in particular.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Hammor nodded and said “Yami. Izanami. Admiral’s guards or something. Ladies, Doctor Grey, Chief Medical Officer.” and he picked up his glass and took a drink.

OOC Be aware I’ve split this thread so now there are two conversations to join, one with the guards and one with the Admiral. If anyone wanders off I’ll start a third for people who want to gather in a corner and watch the conversations from a distance :-)

Izanami paid the newcomer no heed but did give a glance towards Orvos at the replicator.

Yami nodded to Grey and seemed genuinely interested in his arrival. “A medical doctor?”, the statement was one of curiosity even though it was rhetorically made.

Orvos’s back was towards the populated table, however upon feeling a set of eyes settling on him, he decided to go along with things…mostly. “Hmmm? Oh, Dr. Grey, yes. Pleasure to see you and apparently to be seen by the rest!” Orvos grinned. “Just a few more minutes and I’ll be out of your hair soon enough.”

He then turned back to the replicator, hoping to get it fixed quickly before more inquisitive eyes settled on him.

-Lt. Commander Orvos Legen, CE

Unusually quiet, Viyara was listening closely, greeting Dr. Grey with a small bow of her head, while her heterochromatic eyes were resting mostly on the twin who seemed to have an eye for Daggum. Of course she knew she had no right to feel jealous or territorial. They were just friends, albeit with benefits. And yet there was something about those two guards that rubbed her the wrong way. Though she couldn’t put her finger on what it was exactly. At least not yet. So for the moment she decided to be the quiet observer.

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

Izanami was seemingly oblivious to Viyara’s discomfort but had now moved her attention to Orvos and was scrutinising him intensely waiting for a chance to talk to him.

Benjamin cocked his head at the strangers’ rhetorical query. He quickly downed his drink and waved to the bartender for a refill “CMO to be precise” He added as the bartender handed him his refill. He inhaled deeply through his nose, memorizing the two strangers scents for future reference “A pleasure” He smiled slightly at Yumi and took another deep sip.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Yami nodded at Benjamin, “So you lead,” she said rather emphatically and then looked at the others, “Do any of you lead as well?”

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Daggum took a sip of his drink and nodded slightly. “Chief Operations Officer, here.”

Hammor, Ops

Yami stopped and considered that for a moment before replying, “So what is your level of power compared to the Chief Medical Officer and the Captain”.

Orvos slammed the replicator back into place and the lights came on. “Computer, green tea with a dash of honey, hot.” Right before his eyes, a cup of steaming tea appeared. “Excellent,” he muttered to himself as he spun around catching Izanami’s gaze.

Izanami was still staring right at him.

“Ah,” he said, stepping towards her. “Interested in some green tea by chance?” he asked as he set the cup before her. “What can I do for you?”

She nodded slowly in assent to his request for a drink. At his second question she seemed genuinely puzzled and conflicted, her mouth made shapes as if she was about to speak and then stopped again as she reconsidered her words. Finally what slipped out was rather meek in comparison to her earlier demeanour. “Talk to me, you are different to the others”.

-Lt. Commander Orvos Legen, CE

After what felt to her like a disastrous interaction between herself and the Admiral, Jennifer stepped into the Lounge and slipped into a seat at the bar, near where Orvos, Hammor and the two guests were seated. Particularly, she was interested in talking to Hammor for a moment. “Daggum, did you get my memo about VIP quarters for the Admiral and her aids?”

Wallace, XO

Hammor nodded. “I did, Commander. Quarters are set and ready to go. Room assignments sent to your comms. Everyone should have a nice fruit basket on the table, too.” and he smiled and winked.

Hammor, Ops

“Thank you, Hammor. That feels like the only thing that’s gone right today,” Jenn muttered, glancing down at her PaDD in annoyance as it beeped. She hit snooze on the alert it was sending her, then looked over at Orvos. “Think you can mix up one of those teas for me? I need something calming.”

Wallace, XO

Yami fingered the scar on her face again as she watched the conversation unfold, she spared a glance for her sister in conversation with Orvos and looked slightly perturbed.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist.

Spotting the Admiral alone in one corner of the room and figuring she wouldn’t be missed, Viyara decided to walk over there and ignore the two twins for now as best as she could before that weird bound of jealousy got even stronger.

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

Benjamin nearly snorted in his glass at Yami’s question It took him a few minutes of quiet coughing and clearing his throat to get back his ability to speak. He turned to the Ops chief and smiled widely “Oh yes, what is your power compared to me or the Captain?” He’d never heard a question like that, who measured ranks as positions of power.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Hammor’s gem-like emerald eyes sparkled with amusement, but his face remained diplomatic. “What is my… power, you say…? Well, the Captain is in charge of the ship as whole. Everyone answers to her. The good doctor here is in charge of the health of the crew, but answers to the Captain. I am in charge of making sure all the systems within the ship are working as best as they can, and that everyone has the materials they need to be successful. So… Yami… you see it’s not so much about power or who is more important. It’s about how well we work together to accomplish the mission. The Doctor is the best one for the job if you get hurt and need help. I could put a dressing on and maybe keep you from bleeding out, but Doctor Grey can actually heal you. But if the inertial dampening fields are on the fritz, you might want to call me instead. While I’m sure the Doc here could keep us from imploding if the need arose, I’m probably better suited to handle the issue to completion.”

Hammor, Ops
