Daggum nodded in appreciation. “The second sounds kinda fun. Might be even more fun if you got a few people to join you. You could make it a team building exercise for your department if you wanted to. Hmmm… I actually make look into that. My staff has been busting their asses for the past week, might be a good time to blow off some steam and switch mental gears for a minute.”

Viyara nodded and grinned, “Sounds like a good idea. It seemed like there were even different levels of difficulty.” Reaching for her Irish coffee to a couple of sips and silently pondered a few things as she looked at Daggum.

Daggum watched her for a few moments before smiling and saying “You’re in your head again. Whats on your mind?”

Daggum

Viyara shook her head and then sighed. “You are way too good at reading me,” she replied with a laugh in an attempt to mask the various emotions his simple observation and question had conjured up inside her. “And it’s nothing, really. Just me being awkward and silly and I don’t even know why.”

“Awkward and silly about what?” Daggum asked, but his voice was a bit more soft. He knew Viyara well enough to know when to push and when to just lend gentle encouragement to open up.

Hammor

Staring down at the tabletop, Viyara was uncharacteristically bashful as she chewed on her lower lip and thought about whether or not she should tell Daggum what was on her mind and how to put it into words if she decided to say anything.

With her eyes still cast down, Viyara eventually said in a low voice and in a bit of a rush, “It’s stupid and I should have just asked. I know that. I kind of hoped that maybe the two of us could give the programs I mentioned a try and when you talked about doing one of them with your department, it made a little sad.” By now her cheeks had turned a flaming red. And if had dared to analyse her emotions a bit more or hadn’t spend so much time in her life pushing her feelings aside instead of allowing herself to feel them, she might have recognised that she was not only sad, but actually a little jealous.

Daggum looked at her and in his mind he sighed. But outwardly, he just put a hand near her and said “V… I’d have a blast doing those with just you. And I would love to give them a shot anytime you like, okay?” he said softly.

Daggum

Reaching for his hand, Viyara lifted her gaze; confusion written all over her face. “I’m sorry Daggum. I don’t know what’s wrong with me lately. I swear I don’t want to play games. I don’t understand what’s going on and why I’m being so silly and such an idiot,” she replied just as softly.

Daggum smiled at her and said “Well for one, no one has called you an idiot or silly. And two, what games are you talking about? The holodeck one?” Hammor was a smart individual. But right then he was very confused.

Daggum

If possible, Viyara looked even more confused and she opened and closed her mouth a couple of times before she actually managed to say something. “No, not the holodeck. Just … I … we had said we always tell each other what we want … that we both don’t want to play games with the other one’s feelings … playing that kind of games is honestly the last thing I want to do and yet here I am unable to say what I want or even figure out what I want and …” She sighed and dropped her gaze. “And no one has to call me an idiot or silly. I know that I am without someone else telling me.” Her voice was thick with emotions and she felt her eyes well up with tears and she hated herself for both. This place was way too public for her to have a break down. So took several deep breaths and tried to push all those feelings away.

“C’mon.” Daggum said and stood up, holding his hand out to her.

Viyara simply nodded and reached for his hand as she rose to her feet.

He led her out of the Lounge without a word and then let go of her hand as he walked her wordlessly to her quarters. “Let’s go inside and talk, shall we?” he said with a knowing smile.

Daggum

The moment Daggum had let go of her hand, Viyara had wrapped her arms tightly around her middle as she walked silently next to him. When they reached her quarters, she led the way inside and replied in a barely audible voice, “Okay.” All the while she was confused and upset with herself. This was not who she was! Or was it?

Walking over to her couch, Viyara flopped down on it and then pulled her legs up; planting her feet on the couch so that she could wrap her arms around her legs and rest her chin on her knees. She felt like she should say something, but she didn’t know what. So instead she bit rather hard on her lower lip and hoped that Daggum would say something instead.
