Kingston’s grass green eyes watched Nazeen keenly, before she stepped closer to stand in front of her, a small but warm smile on her face. “She wanted me to pass on a message. Or rather, she left the note with Lieutenant Iven, and subsequently that means me. She said, ‘Not all who wander are lost, but not all who are lost need to wander.’” Janna watched the scientist to see if it meant anything to her.

Her first instinct, when Janna came closer, was to take a step back. But she fought that instinct. A frown and a mild look of confusion appeared on Viyara’s pale face. She had an idea what Koraia might have meant with that, but she wasn’t entirely sure. What she did know was that she was so done with cryptic messages. Taking a deep breath so that she wouldn’t snap at Janna - she was only the messenger after all - Viyara asked, “What do you want, Counsellor?”

Regardless of Koraia’s intentions or hopes with the message, there was a certain point when it became Janna’s to take on and navigate. “I’m not your enemy,” she said softly. “At the end of the day my job is successful if everyone else is. I don’t know the details of what went down but I do know the enigma that is Ghubari Koraia. We were not close friends, but I knew her well enough to know that she doesn’t focus her attention on someone if she doesn’t think them worthy of it”

Worthy? Right… Viyara slightly shook her head. She had a hard time believing that, despite everything Daggum had said to her the day in the spa and the other night in her quarters.

Kingston took a step back. “I came only to offer an invitation. My door is always open to you, Viyara. Anytime.”

“Thank you, I-” Viyara started and was about to say that she doesn’t need someone to talk to. But she stopped herself and for several moments looked with her heterochromatic eyes right into Janna’s green ones. Eventually she turned around and walked over to her window; bracing her hands on the window sill and resting her forehead against the window.

Though Janna had expected to be dismissed, her eyes traced Viyara’s movements and immediate lack of response with curiosity. Sometimes just knew when your words landed true, and this was one of those moments.

After several long moments, Viyara started softly, “Maybe I should talk with you. Someone else urged me as well to talk with someone. Maybe he is right. But … I don’t even know how … or where to start …” She sighed softly and continued to look into space as she fell silent again.

Okay, she was on now. though Nazeen couldn’t see it, Janna smiled softly as she moved over to the dining room and grabbed a chair. “Well, lucky for you my job is to help you find that starting place and even better it’s sometimes easier to start talking than you think it will be,” she said as she carried the chair over to the sofa, placed it in front with some space and sat down. “Come have a seat. Get comfy. We’ll figure this out together, alright?”

For several more moments Viyara remained at the window, focusing on her breathing as she tried to keep her emotions under control. When she finally turned around, her expression was even and calm. At least on the surface. “Alright,” she replied softly as she sat down on her couch and with her feet placed on the seat, wrapped her arms around her legs as she hugged them to her chest. She hated that yet another person saw her like this and at the same time she had to admit to herself that she needed help and that keeping her defences up was costing her more energy than she seemed to have. And that terrified her.
