Daggum sighed softly and said “It matters because you matter. Friendship is about both people, V. Not just one. And you aren’t going to lose me, V. And as far as what is okay with me? Whatever. We are grown adults, V… we can do whatever we want. Right now, we have no rules except what we decide together, ok? If it helps, I’ll start. Let’s take sex out of it. As much I hate to do that.” and he chuckled. “But it might help to make things… less confusing. Make sense? And please, you are welcome to talk me out of it.” and he laughed.

Daggum

Viyara had nearly said that she didn’t matter. But she didn’t want to fight and if she was honest with herself: a small part of her hoped that Daggum was right about that and wanted to believe him. Pulling her legs off his lap and folding them underneath her while still leaning against Daggum, Viyara nodded. “I would love to talk you out of it,” she said softly, her head bowed as she fiddled a little with her blanket. “You are an amazing lover and being intimate with you … it made me feel happy and … alive. But I think you’re right. To make things easier and less confusing we should take sex out of the equation.” Feeling suddenly rather restless, she pushed herself to her feet and began to pace.

“Disappointing, and being with you is amazing… but I understand. So… what’s next? I made a rule, now it’s your turn.” he said as he watched her pace.

Daggum

Walking over to her window, she braced her hands on the windowsill and looked out into the vastness of space for a moment or two before turning around and resting with her backside against it. “I’m not sure,” Viyara said softly and turned her face to look at Daggum again. “We do things together that friends do? Like, work out together, go to the holodeck, have lunch? Things like that?” she suggested. Her first impulse had been to ask about what forms of physical contact might be okay, but then, to her surprise, chickened out.

Daggum stood up and walked over to her. “I’m good with all of that. Absolutely. And I’m good with you coming to my quarters in the dead of night because you just dont want to be alone. I’m still who I was an hour ago, V. And you are the same, too. Nothing that you have said or done has hurt me, okay? I just hope the same holds true for you.”

Daggum

Looking up at Daggum, Viyara lightly placed one hand on his chest and nodded. “Thank you, Daggum. And I think it does. Or at least will,” she replied and then sighed softly as she dropped her hand again. “All of this,” she continued and then made an all encompassing gesture, “is new to me. It’s always been me who said no and then walked away. I’ve never let anyone get as close to me as I did you. There was one other person, many years ago, I let get somewhat close. But it felt different.” She shook her head and then let it drop backwards against the window behind her.

Daggum walked up in front of her and wrapped his arms around her. “Then I am honored to be that person for you, V. I just hope that you will not let me be the last. Because you are an amazing woman, Viyara. Anyone would be lucky for you to want them in your life.”

Daggum

As she let Daggum hold her, Viyara shook her head. “I’m not. I’m not a good person to be with. I’m too … complicated … too damaged … too broken,” she whispered into his chest. She wanted to believe him, but all she ever saw when she looked at herself were broken pieces, damaged goods. Who’d want that? And if someone did, they deserved better than her.
