It had been a rough night for Viyara and she could feel the lack of sleep in her body. Along with tension that had build up in her muscles. But she didn’t mind the physical pain. It made her feel alive. With a dark purple version of the tension ball Janna had given her yesterday in her pocket and a thick, leather bound journal in the other, she arrived at exactly 1300 hours in front of the counselling suite. Taking a deep breath she stepped through the door and walked straight to the reception desk. With her most charming smile playing across her face, she said, “Hi, I’m Viyara Nazeen. I have an appointment with the Counsellor right now.”

Cherry, the Risian receptionist looked up and smiled at Nazeen. “Hello! Let me just check.... ah, yes, here you are. You’re with Doctor Kingston, fourth door,” she said gesturing to the curved span of doors. “You can go right on it.”

“Thank you,” Viyara replied, still beaming, and then made her way towards Janna’s office and walked right in as she had been told. “Hello Counsellor,” she greeted her as she took the office in once again.

Inside, Janna’s office hadn’t changed since she had last seen it. She also hadn’t changed offices since her promotion since the six rooms were all the same. In the modest space, the petite woman seemed to fit the cozy setting. She didn’t go to great lengths to decorate, but it was definitely more than the standard grey furniture and carpet. On the wall above the couch was an image of an ocean scene that could be almost anywhere and the standard grey slim arm chairs had been replaced with softer larger armchairs in a dark blue that looked inviting to curl up into. On top of the standard carpet, the sitting area was covered in a plush rug in different shades of blues that matched the ocean in the photo. On the other side of the room where she mostly worked, there was a tall leafy plant near her desk and a single silver photo frame on the corner of the desk where she could easily see it when she worked at the computer terminal. Overall, the place was warm but practical and uncluttered- much like Janna.

Janna was sitting in one of the arm chairs, with the lights at half strength and some sort of soft meditational music background. It wasn’t sleep but it was unobtrusive. A mug of coffee in hand, she looked up and smiled at Viyara. “Good afternoon. Grab something to eat or drink if you like and come makes yourself comfortable.”

“Thank you,” Viyara replied and headed over to the replicator. She almost got herself a cup of coffee as well, but then decided against it feeling like caffeine might not be a good idea right now. Instead she ordered a glass of water with a squeeze of lemon juice. Now with the glass and her journal in hand, she made her way towards the second armchair and sat down; placing the journal on her lap and the glass on top of it while gripping the latter rather tightly with her hands. From what Janna could see of the journal, it was very thick. A couple of hundred pages at least. The leather cover seemed to be embossed with something and it was clearly not a new one. Unless Viyara had for some reason decided to replicate a journal that looked like it had been used for many years. Here and there small things even seemed to poke out between the pages.

Viyara was still smiling, though her unease and nervousness began to show ever so slightly as she asked, “How do you want to do this?”
