Humming a nondescript tune, Tello made her way from the Counselor’s office to deck 12, Sickbay 1. Once she had medical out of the way, she would be done with check ins and would be free to take her place on the bridge, or anywhere else.

Dark eyes opened wide when she entered. It was huge! There were rows of bio beds and several staff on duty. She caught the gaze of a passing nurse. “Excuse me, I’m Cmdr Tello Anaar, the new XO for the Athena. I need a medical evaluation in order to be cleared for duty. Can someone help me?”

—Anaar, XO

*bump&

A tall thin man approached the half Betazoid. He wore a long white Doctors coat over a Starfleet Medical Uniform and two filled pips on his collar. His eyes gave her a deep stare, Intense Green eyes that seemed to look right through the new arrival. He was silent for half a second before smiling a polite smile and slightly inclining his head “Ah yes, welcome aboard Commander” He took a few steps forward, he was a head taller than Anaar “I’m Doctor Grey, Chief Medical officer. Welcome aboard, please have a seat” He indicated to a nearby biobed.

Dr. Grey - CMO

“It’s good to meet you, Dr Grey.” Tello walked to the bed indicated and hopped up onto it, crossing her ankles as her feet didn’t touch the floor. “I apologize for just barging in, but I told Captain Wallace I’d tend to my evaluations this morning.”

There was a feeling of slight sadness emanating from Benjamin as she said ‘Captain Wallace’ quickly replaced with confidence, in himself or the new Captain was unclear. “No worries, Sickbay’s always open” He said as he took a medical tricorder from his coat and removed the wand, starting the general medical scan “I understand you are a doctor yourself” He said conversationally.

Dr. Grey - CMO

She nodded. “Yes, I’ve always been fascinated with biology. Even though I’ve switched to command now, I try to stay up on the medical journals. Would you mind me dropping in occasionally just to observe for a little while? Reading isn’t the same as seeing and seeing isn’t the same as doing. You know the old saying ‘watch one, do one, teach one’? Of course, if you’re uncomfortable with that, I’ll understand.”

As far as she knew, she was in excellent health, so she didn’t expect Dr Grey to find anything in the scan.

OOC: her only problem is her telepahy which could be slightly unusual neuron patterns in her brain?

—Anaar, XO

Benjamin shook his head “You’re always welcome here even if only to watch and study, Medicine is a talent best nurtured and maintained lest it grows stale” He said as he read the scan data. His wand returned to her head at least three times before he placed it back in its holster. He looked the half Betazed in her dark eyes “You seem to be in good shape but you have an unusual Neuron pattern in yer brain. Have you ever had issues with your empathic or telepathic abilities?” he asked.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Best to get it out in the open. After all, her medical records were sealed from most eyes on the ship. Still…if word got around… “Dr Grey, this is extremely personal for me, so I’d appreciate it if it could stay between the two of us?”

Benjamin cocked his head to one side for a moment, giving the woman a curious expression before nodding slowly in agreement.

“I don’t have normal empathic skills. I can’t call the abilities up on command like most Betazoids. Instead, every once in a while I’m overcome with emotions from someone else. Its like being suddenly drenched in water…I’m completely saturated with a strong feeling that isn’t even coming from me, and sometimes I can’t control it.” It hasn’t been dangerous in the past if I don’t think about Salar Mory, “but every once in a while, I might start to act on the emotion I’m picking up on before I can get a handle on myself.”

—Anaar, XO

A hand rubbed a chin as Benjamin thought about what he’d just been told. It was not something he’d heard of before, not a case as severe as this. But still the woman had managed to remain in control long enough to become a doctor, get to Starfleet and become a Command officer and Executive Officer as well. After what was only four seconds of silence he spoke once more “Does it happen with any noticeable regularity and what, if any, specialists have you seen?” He asked in a calm tone, his manner remained conversational but his tone was hushed.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Tello shook her head. “It is totally unpredictable. I often tell myself that the planets must be aligned when it happens, but its just a way of excusing it to myself. That doesn’t really have anything to do with it. As far as specialists, I’ve seen a few doctors on Betazed, but they don’t have any suggestions for me.” She shrugged. “I wouldn’t normally bring this up, but I’ve already had it happen on the Athena and I only got here yesterday.”

—Anaar, XO

Benjamin considered for a moment “I see, well it is good to be aware of this” He said more to himself than to her “I do have a suggestion, perhaps you should keep notes on when and with whom you experience this. Much like a dream journal of old Earth traditions. Perhaps also what you experience, it might help it might not but it is something to do” He put his hands down and gave the first officer a slight smile “Well that’s at least my suggestion, unless there’s anything else you are fit for duty”

Dr. Grey - CMO

“Thank you, doctor. I just thought you should be aware of what could happen—just in case it might come up.”

—Anaar, XO

With an inclination of her head, Tello slipped off the bed and headed for the door. There was a lot she needed to catch up on.
