As a diplomatic officer, it was often her job to greet new crewmembers. This greeting seemed rushed and unexpected. It felt like only yesterday she had been having tea and a light hearted conversation with Ghubari. Now her dear friend and Captain was gone. Kaylee welcomed change, but this one hit her hard.She had yet to meet the newly appointed First Officer, so finding a break in her work schedule, she made her way to the First Officer’s office and rang the chime.

Still in the organizational stage of putting her officer together in a way that made her comfortable, Tello had just moved the desk from the center of the room off to one side, catty corner and facing out into the room. There was plenty of room for her to circle around behind it to sit, but it left a lot more floor space that way. “Come!” She called out and the doors parted at her command. Rolling the desk chair into its proper place, she looked up to see who her first visitor was.

In through the doors stepped a petite woman with blonde hair pulled back into a tight high ponytail and bright blue eyes. Though small in stature she made up for it by her high heeled boots and commanding, warm personality.
“Commander,” Kaylee said, walking forward, a hand extended in greeting. “Pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am Kaylee Baxter the chief diplomatic officer on board. It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the Athena.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Cmdr Baxter. I’m Tello Anaar. I haven’t done much with the place yet, but can I offer you a beverage?” She motioned to a large crate over by one wall and the empty walls of the room. The standard furniture was present, but the room had no personality yet.

“Oh, that’s all right, I know you are just getting settled in, I understand the clutter,” Kaylee said, giving Tello a smile. “I would love a cup of tea with lemon.” She took a look around. “Is there anything that you need or I can assist you with in getting settled in and organized?”

Skirting around to the replicator, Tello got the tea and also a coffee for herself. Handing one cup to the CDO, she took a seat near her. “There isn’t anything I can think of at the moment, but thank you. And you know how settling into a new place goes—I have to find new homes for everything that feel the most natural to me. How long have you been on the Athena?”
