Viyara didn’t say anything and kept holding onto Janna for several minutes till her sobs and tears had ebbed down. Loosening her arms carefully, she took a a half step backwards, wiping her face with her bare hands. “I’m sorry. I …” She shook her head and fell silent as she didn’t know how to finish that sentence; how to put her into words what was on her mind. But hopefully Janna would understand anyway.

Though she was tempted to encourage Viyara to name her emotions, instead Janna had a better idea. =/\=Kingston to Hammor. You up for coffee? We’re on holodeck 2.=/\= She was still in her pyjamas, but a pseudo plan had crept into her mind.

~Janna Kingston, CNS

The response was almost immediate. =/\= Coffee with two beautiful women? Who am I to say no to an invite like that?! Be there in ten. =/\=

=/\=See you then. Kingston, out.=/\=

A small smile crept onto Viyara’s face when Janna called Daggum and widened when he replied that he’d be there in ten minutes. Taking a deep breath, she walked over to the sink and splashed some cold water into her face. Of course he knew that she wasn’t doing well and he had seen her cry before. But she still didn’t want to greet him looking like a complete mess.

As Viyara went off, Janna smiled. Good. She was right that this would be a good time for the visit. She sipped on a half cup of coffee knowing there would be be more to come (a sentiment that worked on many fronts).

Almost exactly ten minutes later there was a chime at the holodeck door.

Hammor, Ops

When they heard the chime, Viyara couldn’t help but chuckle slightly. Of course she knew they were on the holodeck. And yet hearing the typical door chime of a Starfleet vessel while standing in this tiny cottage in Northern Ireland felt very weird. After glancing over towards Janna to make sure it was okay if she was the one to answer the door, she called, “Come on in.”

~Viyara Nazeen

“I’ve set it to admit him,” Janna said with a smile. After all, the protocol had specific limitations and who could come and go was one of them.

When Daggum arrived and entered the cottage, Kingston smiled. “Good morning. Viyara, why don’t you make us all some more coffee and you two can take it outside? There’s a nice little patio with chairs and a table. I for one am going to go have a shower and get dressed,” she said with a lopsided grin, completely unaffected by the fact that Hammor was here and would see her in her pyjamas.

Downing the last few sips of her coffee, Janna stepped away and headed for the bathroom.

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Daggum looked at Kingston and smiled. “Nice jimmer-jams there, Doc.” and he chuckled. He looked at Viyara and his face grew softer and he said “Hey, V. How are ya doing?” with a warm and sincere smile.

Hammor, Ops

“Hey Daggum. Thank you for coming,” Viyara replied with a gentle, yet slightly sheepish smile. She wanted to wrap her arms around him and give him a hug. But she suddenly wasn’t sure anymore if that was okay. Nodding towards the kitchen, she said, “Let’s get some coffee and then talk outside as Janna suggested.”

As she started to make the coffee, Viyara said softly, “Overall I think I’m doing okay all things considered. I …” Her voice trailed off and she sighed. Peering over at Daggum, she quickly added, “How are you doing? Did anything exciting happen since we last talked?”

~Viyara Nazeen

Daggum looked at her and said “I’m good, but what were you about to say? You don’t have to censor yourself around me, V. Or walk on eggshells. We’re ok, you and I… I promise.”

Daggum

Handing Daggum the French press, Viyara pulled a mug out of the cupboard and picked up her own. It wasn’t that she was trying to avoid answering his question. She just didn’t know how to and needed a moment to think. So it was in silence that she led the way onto the patio and settled down on one of the two chairs.

Without looking at Daggum, Viyara finally said, “Part of me wishes I wasn’t here. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really grateful for everything Janna is doing for me and I know it will help. I just … I wish it wasn’t necessary. And … and I’m worried what the result of her assessment will be. What that will mean.” Her voice of soft, almost shy and her expression mirrored her fear fairly clearly.

Daggum sat down, grunted, and ordered a bigger chair. “V, listen… I know you don’t want it be something you need… but it really is. So is it possible to kind of shift your perspective a bit maybe? Instead of being upset at the need… maybe be happy for the opportunity? I mean, it’s like just anybody gets counseling on the holodeck… and with a view like this!” and he smiled at her.
