Daggum looked at Kingston and smiled. “Nice jimmer-jams there, Doc.” and he chuckled. He looked at Viyara and his face grew softer and he said “Hey, V. How are ya doing?” with a warm and sincere smile.

Hammor, Ops

Janna just winked at Hammor. Would she ordinarily go traipsing about in her pjs? Not normally. but these weren’t normal circumstances and it was more important for someone to stay in Viyara’s presence right now than leave her alone. So she had simply waited for backup to arrive.

“Hey Daggum. Thank you for coming,” Viyara replied with a gentle, yet slightly sheepish smile. She wanted to wrap her arms around him and give him a hug. But she suddenly wasn’t sure anymore if that was okay. Nodding towards the kitchen, she said, “Let’s get some coffee and then talk outside as Janna suggested.”

As she started to make the coffee, Viyara said softly, “Overall I think I’m doing okay all things considered. I …” Her voice trailed off and she sighed. Peering over at Daggum, she quickly added, “How are you doing? Did anything exciting happen since we last talked?”

~Viyara Nazeen

Daggum looked at her and said “I’m good, but what were you about to say? You don’t have to censor yourself around me, V. Or walk on eggshells. We’re ok, you and I… I promise.”

Daggum

Handing Daggum the French press, Viyara pulled a mug out of the cupboard and picked up her own. It wasn’t that she was trying to avoid answering his question. She just didn’t know how to and needed a moment to think. So it was in silence that she led the way onto the patio and settled down on one of the two chairs.

Without looking at Daggum, Viyara finally said, “Part of me wishes I wasn’t here. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really grateful for everything Janna is doing for me and I know it will help. I just … I wish it wasn’t necessary. And … and I’m worried what the result of her assessment will be. What that will mean.” Her voice of soft, almost shy and her expression mirrored her fear fairly clearly.

Daggum sat down, grunted, and ordered a bigger chair. “V, listen… I know you don’t want it be something you need… but it really is. So is it possible to kind of shift your perspective a bit maybe? Instead of being upset at the need… maybe be happy for the opportunity? I mean, it’s like just anybody gets counseling on the holodeck… and with a view like this!” and he smiled at her.

Daggum

“I am trying Daggum. I’m trying so hard. And I’m not upset about being here. I’m just scared,” Viyara replied, finally looking Daggum straight in the eyes. For a brief moment she wrapped her left hand around her right wrist and held onto it very tightly. But the second she noticed what she was doing she made herself loosen her grip and pulled the tension ball out of the pocket of her skirt and held tightly onto that instead while her hands rested on her lap.

~Viyara Nazeen

“Scared is normal, V. I was more scared of therapy that I ever was of the Pits. It’s hard and uncomfortable and you can’t really ‘see’ your progress. But that right there?” and he jerked his chin at the ball and smiled. “That’s huge, V. I, really proud of you.”

Daggum

Viyara dropped her gaze to her lap as if she had to check to know what Daggum was talking about. “I guess,” she said thoughtfully as she looked up again.

Janna stepped out a moment later, a loose blue floral dress to her ankles, simple leather sandals on her feet and her coffee mug in hand, definitely looking more refreshed. As her feet hit the stone tiled patio, she smiled warmly. “Well, this is lovely. I say we keep this program for later when we don’t want to meet in my office,” she said as she pulled out a chair and joined them at the table and poured herself some coffee.

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Turning her head to look at Janna, Viyara gave her a small smile. “Yeah, it is,” she nodded. Tightening her grip on the tension ball a little more, she asked, “What are we going to do now?”

~Viyara Nazeen

Kingston shrugged slightly. “Up to you really. We can talk about inconsequential things. We can continue some of the work we were doing too. In fact, I was thinking that maybe while Daggum was here, we could finish that second homework assignment but do it together as a group. But it’s up to you, Viyara,” she said seriously. “If you feel you need a break, we can take a break. But if you feel ready to delve a little farther, just remember you’ve got backup.”

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Viyara thought about that for a few moments and then nodded as she took a deep breath. “I think I’m ready to delve a little farther. And I think doing that second assignment together would be good,” she replied. She almost asked when Janna would tell her the result of her assessment and while now might be a good idea to hear what already felt like a verdict, she also wasn’t sure if she really wanted to know. After all, once she did, it would be real. Or at least it would feel more real then it already di. So she kept that question to herself and instead looked from Janna to Daggum and back again.

~Viyara Nazeen

“I’m happy to help however I can. And I’m free for the rest of the day, so we have plenty of time.” He looked at Janna and said “So what is this assignment?”
