Hammor took a few more bites and chewed, his gaze falling on Marishka between bites. Finally, he took a drink and said “I appreciate your candor and civility today. And I think this meeting has been more productive and less… tense… than our previous ones. So where do we go from here? Personally, I would much prefer this to the other. What about you?”

Just then a waitress came by and topped off coffee cups. She also showed a PaDD to Marishka, waited for her boss’ acknowledgment, then quietly slipped away.

Before responding to Hammor, Marishka wiped her lips and studied him for a few seconds.

“We can’t help being who and what we are, whatever that means to either one of us but, for the time being, I don’t think we should be alone in a room together. So if you don’t want to meet here, in the future, we should find another place. I’m not saying we need a chaperone but I would prefer to stay out of your office for the moment. I’m certain there are things about me you would prefer to keep at arm’s length for the time being, and I will agree to that.”

  • Marishka

Daggum watched her closely as she spoke and then said “If meeting here makes you more comfortable, then by all means we can continue to do so. As far as things about you I want to keep at arm’s length? Well, I don’t even really know you, so that stuff would be my baggage to sort out then, wouldn’t it? Honestly, I’d prefer we chalk up out previous meetings as a sharp learning curve and try to move forward. If you don’t right now, that’s fine. The offer stands.” and he took a bite of burger.

Marishka rather felt it was the edge of a sword and not any type of curve she’d ever known before but, that phrase was as good as any.

“Very well, we can meet here as often as the need arises and you are welcome here on your leisure time just as is any member of the crew. As far as baggage goes, that what broad shoulders are for.” she said looking down at her mysteriously empty plate.

  • Marishka

Hammor chuckled and swallowed the last of his burger. “I do the same thing when I’m really hungry. Eat and then look down and think ‘Where did all my food go?’” He leaned back and looked at Mariska and said “Listen, I want to be able to work with you. You do a fantastic job of managing this place, and I’m not here to make that job harder. Just the opposite, really. If you can work with me, I can work with you. Alone in the same room or not.” and he smiled.

Marishka had a feeling he meant it but the universe had a way of throwing lightning bolts into everything she tried to do. They no longer shook her confidence, just changed her direction.

“I agree. I don’t think we’ll need to have another meeting for two weeks most likely, unless there’s a problem with those edible gems of course.”

As Marishka finished speaking, a new waitress appeared and glanced at the dishes.

“Dessert today?” she asked them both.

  • Marishka

Just then, the doors parted revealing a certain chief engineer with an engineer’s kit and figurative smoke coming from his ears. His jaw was tight as he quickly strode towards the kitchen.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

Marishka glanced towards the kitchen and realized who had just entered. She quickly went over who was n the kitchen at that time and realized probably no-one was equipped to handle what might have been about to happen.

Sighing, she looked from the waitress to Hammor.

“I think I would like a piece of cheesecake, another cup of coffee, and please, whatever Commander Legen wants, give it to him or, better yet, come and get me. Is that understood Sandy?”

Sandy nodded and waited to see if Hammor wanted anything else.

  • Marishka

Hammor looked at the waitress and said “Oh, I’m fine. But thank you very much, Sandy.” He looked at Marishka, the kitchen, then back at Marishka. “Anything I can help with there?” he asked quietly.

Hammor, Ops

Marishka had a growing sense of doom where Orvos was concerned. She had the sense they had made great strides in their personal friendship but that probably didn’t have anything to do with the fact that he was the Chief Engineer about to professionally lay waste to her kitchen.

“I think the Commander and I will get on well but I should really handle this before he scares half my kitchen staff. Please enjoy the rest of your coffee and meal. You are, of course, welcome to join me.” she said rising to go.

Orvos, meanwhile, stormed into the kitchen with his kit at hand. “No, all I want is for you lot to quit breaking these replicators!”

“I get it, the parts suck, but until that all gets sorted out we need to handle things DELICATELY!”

“I’ll do what I can, but until then you lot need to not be so rough with these machines!”

After that, the kitchen was back to normal, and Orvos was still inside.

-Lt. Commander Orvos Legen, CE

As Marishka made her way into the kitchen she adjusted her armor. Sitting so long didn’t suit the custom pieces that had been made for her so long ago.

“Commander. How have we offended you today?” she asked calmly. No use taking offense where none was needed.

  • Marishka

Hammor followed, more to make sure things stayed calm than to take any side in what appeared to be an argument in the making.
