SNIP

With the assistance of the biobed readings, Karina gave the visitor the nutrients he needed. She then picked up the scanner and began to get a more detailed scan of the man. Feet to head, she scanned him thoroughly and checked for injuries and any other markers that would help indicate who or what he was.

The doctor glanced up now and again to the Captain. The woman needed a break. Yet at every turn there was something more. Realizing her thoughts were bordering on places she shouldn’t go, she looked back at the man and waited for the scans to show her something useful.

As the deeper scans started to piece together this man’s modus operandi it became more and more clear that he was somehow capable of channeling energy directly through his nervous system and the reason for his tragic state could be attributed to the fact that he had used that ability to the point that every cell in his body was at near null energy meaning that only his brain and heart were functioning in any capacity and they wouldn’t be for much longer if he wasn’t somehow energised at the cellular level, and soon.

Energy..... Karina thought for a moment.

“Captain, we need a way to energize him. It is as if he were a battery of some kind and near depletion. I’m not sure something like a slow trickle from the life support system would help, though. Do you have any ideas?” They used electricity to shock hearts to get them to restart. Could the power be modified to merely trickle in a stream versus a single momentary jolt?

While she waited for the Captain to answer, she fingered through the commands on the bed overhead. Surely there was ‘something’ that would allow for a slow release of power in some capacity. Too large a jolt may damage him, but surely…

Karina bit her lip absently as she went through the command programs.

The command programs were set to normal humanoid life forms but there were subheadings for all the different races they had encountered. Suddenly the monitor flickered slightly and the young man twitched in his comatose state.

Jennifer came back from her comms call and listened to the problem. “I’ve heard of a way of energizing cells using certain wavelengths of radiation,” she replied thoughtfully. She stepped over to look over Karina’s shoulder at the command programs, then jumped slightly with surprise as the man seemed active for a moment. She stared at him for a few moments, watching for further activity. She ran over to a console. “Computer, do we have the capacity to Macguyver a polaric particle emitter?”

Wallace, CO

Karina had startled as well and then let a nervous giggle slip from her lips as they both recovered. When the Captain mentioned the emitter, she stepped to the other side of the table to let the woman have space. “I’m not sure what that is, but it sounds like it would work.” She had never heard the Macguyvering comment was about. But a particle emitter may be the key.

“I had been thinking a low level charge like what we use to kick start hearts. But lower frequency and steady instead of a harsh pulse.”

Karina
Doctor

From the reply of the computer, it at least was completely aware of what “Macguyvering” was. =/\= A Polaric Particle Emitter can be constructed. Estimated time of construction 15 minutes. Would you like me to proceed =/\=

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

“Yes, computer. Proceed with manufacture,” the Captain replied, then turned to Karina. “Let’s hope that works. In the meantime, I like your idea about electricity, we should do that too. Maybe we won’t need the Polaric Particles.”

Jenn had read about Polaric Particles in a series of papers about lifespan extension she’d read while she was CMO of the Equinox. They were supposedly connected to cell energy and the degradation that occurred in old age. Hopefully it would do what she hoped it would do.

=/\= Proceeding with manufacture =/\=

Just under 15 minutes later the computer chimed in again as the replicator finished the final piece of its manufacture =/\=Manufacture is complete=/\=

Jenn grabbed the final piece and slotted it into the emitter, then flicked the switch, turning the device on. It was already set up to emit towards the patient, so hopefully this worked!!

Wallace, CO

Karina had tried to get the electricity to work but the steady pulse they managed only kept the man at his current rate of needing more. Once the emitter was finished, she stepped back to let Wallace try it. “We should start low and make sure we monitor the levels and reactions. Hate to have something go wrong in the future and and we aren’t prepared.” She knew that’s exactly what the CO would do, but saying it out loud somehow helped to ease her mind about what she was doing while monitoring said procedures.

The biobed showed absolutely no energy transfer from the Polaric particles but strangely the cells themselves started to respond to a cause as yet unknown. The biobed reading flickered again and, as the cells went from critical to low energy levels, two startling blue eyes opened.

“You have saved me” the voice was croaky and lasted only a moment before the patient passed out again, unconscious but now seemingly out of danger.

=^=I don’t have a lot of information, but science reports the likely point of origin is the Mirror Dimension…=^=

R’han

=^=Thanks for the update, bridge,=^= Wallace commed back, then looked at Karina with a slightly confused expression on her face. “The mirror dimension?” She asked, tilting her head.

Knowledge of things like the Mirror Dimension wasn’t widely distributed, and Wallace had never had reason to be filled in on it.

Wallace, CO

Karina had been looking at the man as he opened his eyes. The blue had been so striking and startling, she had almost not realized he had spoke. When those deep pools closed once more, she bit her lip. When Wallace spoke to her, it took her a second to respond. “Sorry, what? Mirror Dimension. I don’t know it. But if it’s what it sounds like, sounds like a place that’s a duplicate of our dimension.” She looked back down at the one on the bed and sighed. “But why is he here? And how?” She couldn’t get his eyes out of her mind. Pulling the blanket up a bit and almost tenderly making sure he was comfortable, Karina suddenly shook her head and looked back at Wallace with a bright shade of red blossoming on her cheeks. She had just realized her reaction to the alien and was more than a little embarrassed by it. You’ve been alone too long, Rin. You are finding men where you shouldn’t be looking. She abmonished herself as she waited for the berating she had missed something vital while lost in a fantasy.

“Sorry, Captain,” she murmured once more by way of an apology.

(a little smitten? Ya think?)

The computer suddenly spoke into life. =/\= File entry found, need Captain’s access code to access=/\=
