Benjamin’s words - even though rationally she knew they were well intended - felt like a slap in the face. Yet at the same time they were a confirmation of what she had felt all along as well: That she really was broken. But unlike a cut or even a broken bone there was no real way to fix this. After all, how could one fix a broken brain? Or a broken soul?

Daggum looked at the doctor and shook his head slightly. Really? Thats how you talk to someone on the edge… literally on the edge of a cliff? he thought to himself and he then looked at Viyara. “There isn’t an answer to that here, V… why the past happened like it did is a question for further down the road. Right now, here, we need to just help you figure out how best to deal with that past and how your brain processes that. And it’s doable… it just takes some work. And I know you are capable of it… you just gotta let yourself walk that path. And you don’t have to do it alone. You have a lot of people in your corner, okay? We can help… you just let us know what you need. Sometimes its hard to know that, but thats where Janna and Dr. Grey come in. They can help you figure that out.”

Daggum

With her ears ringing and her mind preoccupied with Doctor Grey’s words, Viyara barely heard what Daggum was saying and what she heard took longer than normal till she actually understood what he was saying. Her head was spinning and she felt trapped. Trapped on the holodeck. Trapped in her own body. What she wanted to do was turn around and let herself fall backwards. Not to die.But for the rush of adrenaline. To feel in control of something. Even if it was just for a brief moment. But she knew what would happen if she did that. So she fought against that urge. She turned away from the cliff instead and started running in the opposite direction of where they had come from. Not caring about what the others might think.

Daggum started to go after her, but then stopped himself. He followed her with his eyes as she ran off, and then he took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. He looked at Gray for a moment and then shook his head slightly… but he stayed silent.

Benjamin’s green eyes followed the woman as she ran away, he caught the expression of the Operations chief. His own expression was featureless and calm. After a moment of silence, he sighed “I believe I’ve said the wrong thing again” He used his right hand to rub his forehead “Janna your recommendation?” He asked calmly but still rubbing his forehead “I don’t know if my staying or leaving would be worse, the choice is yours.”

Janna had watched the whole thing unfold with quiet alertness. Would she have intervened if she felt it necessary? Absolutely. But in her experience, people sometimes had to be pushed in small ways to that they all could get a sense of where a person’s limits where. How much they could handle. It was a delicate process. Exhaling, she all but sighed as well. “Everything right now is heightened for her. I think for now, you can go. We needed the medical side of things checked out and when Viyara and I are done here, we’ll swing by Sickbay to deal with starting a medication if she’s still willing. And I think for the time being, Daggum and I are just going to go back to the house and wait for her. We got it from here,” she said with a reassuring smile.

Benjamin stood up and inclined his head to the counselor “I’ll be in my office, good luck” He turned around for a moment, sniffed twice then said =^=Computer, door=^= The holographic exit materialized in the direction he was looking and he calmly walked away “My shoes are still somewhere on the deck, I would like them back whenever you’re done” He said as he exited the room and his shoes faded away and he walked across the corridor only in his socks.
