The over all feeling within the crew was low. Betrayed, ripped off, forced into a conflict not of their own making. They had no investment except that they were cut off from their ship and the means that they had been transferred here had rattled them and made them feel powerless.

P’tah and Athena nodded to each other. “Captain. Ask them this, “If I had a super power, what would it be?”

Jennifer took a deep breath. Why was she suddenly the mouthpiece for these beings?

After having selected her own weapon, which happened to be a Human polearm she was familiar with called a Naginata. She turned to the captain, “Captain, I would like to request that we attempt to get all the rest of our people, who are on this planet gathered here in this location. Given the situation we cant assume that the rest of the teams are safe where they are at,” she said she of course took her job in security very seriously, and she hoped she was demonstrating just that.

“We’re at risk here, just as much as the people who are asking for our help. If this Ares fellow gets hold of the EDOC I assume it’s bad news for everyone.” Wallace reminded the crew. “The more we believe in ourselves and in this fight, it seems, the more powerful our side will get. I think that’s a pretty good incentive to believe in ourselves.”

Jennifer turned to Anathemai again. “Azna makes a good point. A lot of us are here, but I’m missing a significant portion of my senior staff. Where are they?”

Wallace, CO

“Some on the island of Nemornia, some are in space. They are in good hands Captain, Ares struck the island first and has taken one of the EDOC’s arrays but he has made a tactical error in that those of us on that island with your crew mates are among the most resourceful and powerful of the Beings. Ares main force will hit here thinking they have the drop on us but they are not yet aware that Thoth is leading the rest of your crew to retake the Athena. We need only hold here long enough for Thoth, Yami, Orvos, Stark and Marishka to retake your ship and Maui, Kane, Poseidon, and your other crew mates to retake the island. They will then join us here and we will make short work of Ares at that juncture”. Athena’s eyes were implacable granite but then they softened, “and when that is done we will get back to having some rest and relaxation Captain, this I promise you”.

Karina had frowned at the CMO’s comment but merely took her place by her boss and remained silent as she listened to the Admiral, Captain and others discuss the upcoming battle. In her heart, she knew she would have been helpful in the fight. Perhaps even could have brought wounded back to be seen to. But the CMO had a point. She was a doctor and running off into the fray, as it would soon be, probably wasn’t a wise choice.

She watched the rapier and pole arm enter the hands of other crewmates and smiled. At least they were joining the fight.

When the Captain made the speech about being true and believing, she smiled and murmured to herself, “I wouldn’t have chosen a weapon if I thought it was pointless. Saved the Athena once… not gonna sit back and not help this time.” A small giggle escaped her lips and she quickly bit it back hoping no one had heard it.

Seeing that everyone seemed ready, Wallace turned to Athena. “Alright. Everyone’s ready to… do whatever it is we’re about to do. Let’s get this over with.”

Wallace, CO

“I’m as ready as I will ever be.” Liam noted as he examined the blade, absorbing its weight and reach.

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

“I will follow orders given by my superior officer.” Which was the most lukewarm agreement that was every heard.

R’han

“You’re a good tactician, R’han. You’d be helpful on the fighting side,” Jennifer spoke. Her voice had a tone to it that made it clear that while it wasn’t technically an order, he was allowed to take it as one.

Jennifer looked to Athena expectantly. “What are we waiting for?”

Wallace, CO

“We are awaiting their attack as this place is defensible, we are also awaiting news from the Island of Nemornia and from Thoth with your other people. Ares is a traditionalist, he fight like he always has in the style of the Greeks. I too have not fought for a long time in anything other than the traditional style. I would appreciate your advice”. She looked at them all before continuing. “Our North side has a sheer cliff below the infinity pool but some of Ares creatures can climb and he may have some that can fly. Our south side is the frontage of the hotel and has a more gentle slope with trees almost up to the front door. Our east and west are rocky terrain and hard to access plus they have no entries to the building. They do however have plate glass windows that could be breached. The foyer can be isolated due to fire doors and has a mezzanine offering a tactical advantage if we have to retreat. We have people out trying to alert us as to the nature of the attack but I would appreciate your input on a plan of defence and counter attack. I also need people to command the defences on each side of the hotel in case they try and flank us”

As Karina listened, she tapped the CMO’s shoulder. With a lowered voice, to not disrupt the tactical discussion, she nodded towards the building. “We could set up medical and triage in the hotel. The mezzanine has a defensible position in front of a large conference room. We can pull wounded and non combatants into there. We’d be protected twice. Once from those out here, and again from those defending our doors.”

She didn’t know how to fight. But she knew how to hunker down and keep from getting into the battle.

Jennifer wasn’t a strategist. Especially not for ground combat. But she did have someone on her team who was a skilled strategist. “R’han, please advise Athena on this, I’m going to walk the perimeter.” She was getting… she needed to get away from the crowd, just for a moment.

Jenn stepped away from the grouping of officers and ‘deities’ and headed towards a nearby hallway, pacing up and down it’s length and finding an empty room. Perhaps it wasn’t a great idea but she really needed a moment to figure out her brain. What was happening? They weren’t supposed to end up in ground combat like this, she was trained to command a ship, not a small army on the ground.

Wallace, CO

Feeling the tap on his shoulder, Liam had finished sheathing his weapon and glanced at the source. Karina. A part of him was glad she wasn’t involved in the front lines. If something happened… the CMO shuddered then forced the thought away. Thinking about such things only encouraged their occurrence. His vision shifted to the mezzanine, a platform that separated the large level into multiple floors, then considered her suggestion. It appeared to be a good idea at first, but he wondered what would happen if Ares’ forces flooded in from the floor above somehow. Despite his fencing experience being purely competitive, Liam did understand the worth of knowing your combat ground.

“It’s possible since the fire doors will isolate the foyer. However, foyers are halls for entrances to outside or to other places in the building. This makes me wonder what does the foyer lead into and is there access from the outside to it? If it’s near the south entrance, he just needs to use numbers to force his way in.”

Before Liam could say more, he was interrupted when the CO mentioned she needed to scout out the perimeter. He frowned, but said nothing. Based on his own experience, he suspected her decision was related to something more. Allowing her that time needed to collect herself, Liam focused on the others. The ones that needed direction and action. The highest priority on his mind was survival.

“Well, based on what was said I feel we need to prepare this place and limit their movements. Especially if we want to put the odds in our favor to protect this place.” Liam took a breath to continue.

“Let’s start with the north side. If we have climbing or flying creatures, we need to make it difficult to scale up and prepare something in the event they make it. I doubt the bulk of his army will come through there or the other entrances so our biggest focus needs to be on the south side where numbers can overwhelm us. We also need to set up a secondary defense in the foyer as a last resort should our defenses fail.”

Letting the information settle on everyone’s mind, he turned to Rhan. “So what’s your thoughts on who should focus on preparing what entrance?”

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

A’zna was partoling around securing the area. Trying to figure out the best way to prepare for an attack, now armed with her Naginata and going through the same motions that she had against the Orions not to long ago before she got her promotion.
