A little less than 24 hours later Marishka arrived back where she had requested to be a part of Orvos’ adventure. It never hurt to be early.

Over the last 24 hours she had tried to enjoy herself without the responsibilities of The Parthenon but found it quite boring. After a while she had given up trying and had actually slept for some time.

  • Marishka

The 24 hours flew past incorporating an amazing sunset and equally spectacular sunrise . The transport to the South EDOC spaceport went without even the slightest turbulence.

Thoth himself had accompanied them all and the whole time they had made the trip his upper lip had “wobbled” a little as he spoke. He seemed more excited about what was about to happen than any of them.

They arrived at the hangar entrance and eyes twinkling Thoth punched in his code sweeping back the door to see what lay inside…

OOC We’ll let Orvos have the honour of describing the ship :-)

OOC: This (https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=pJlucLHa&id=528EA0BA008E3C43E6DECB7EA683D7BB48D53F40&thid=OIP.pJlucLHaYvM-RHuQczvj6QHaEK&mediaurl=https%3a%2f%2fth.bing.com%2fth%2fid%2fR.a4996e70b1da62f33e447b90733be3e9%3frik%3dQD%252fVSLvXg6Z%252byw%26riu%3dhttp%253a%252f%252fimperialaschendatalink.weebly.com%252fuploads%252f5%252f2%252f3%252f3%252f52334567%252fccwship2_orig.jpg%26ehk%3dGDEnbDocitZYTWojqkQ2d2sXyWR4YosV26Jbo4NUKvo%253d%26risl%3d%26pid%3dImgRaw%26r%3d0&exph=576&expw=1024&q=star+ships&simid=607986572617278745&FORM=IRPRST&ck=1409148BA432F0C57628894ABB95BE72&selectedIndex=19&ajaxhist=0&ajaxserp=0 ) was the inspiration for what I’m sharing below. :)

IC: And there she was, the Aurora! Or at least, what Orvos knew was merely a replica of it. There no way this could replace the familiar scents and sounds of the actual ship with people bustling about that he had once known.

The Aurora was a sleek, dark, metal grey color. A large ring was the most notable characteristic of it, being the closest part of the ship to the ground. On top of the ring sat the body of the ship, it’s features smooth starting from a box like rear and ending in a nearly pointed front end. Blue light could be seen radiating from the underside of the ring. Windows of light were strewn all about the body and ring of the ship. On the front of the ship, closest to the bridge, was an inscription that glowed red and green interchangeably. It was written in El Aurian, and thus only those who knew the language would understand what it meant.

“Incredible!” said Orvos ebulliently. “You must have quite the team, Mr. Thoth, to assemble her in 24 hours?”

-Lt. Commander Orvos Legen, CE

Marishka had been standing quietly off to the side and a bit behind Orvos. She had wanted to come on this journey with him but this was, by no means, about her. The language itself was even foreign.

Stepping a little closer she debated on whether to ask him what it said and possibly ruin the moment or just let it be.

Finally, she glanced at the ship, smiled, and raised an eyebrow.

  • Marishka

Stark was absolutely riveted. You could tell he couldn’t wait to get inside and take off.

Thoth smiled depreciatingly, “We aim to please”. Suddenly he clutched his forehead and his eyes widened in shock. “We must hurry Lorekeeper, disaster is upon us. We must board and leave the planet quickly before the enemy finds us. I can shield out presence, but only for a short time. Please, I beseech you, make haste!”.

Yami slipped her arm under Thoth’s frail form and helped him towards the ship, almost carrying him.

Orvos’s face grew grim as he moved after Yami and Thoth. “Tell me what’s going on Thoth. This doesn’t seem to be part of the fantasy.” Orvos’s personality was shift ever so slightly from the wacky chief engineer to the serious and concerned captain of old.

-Lt. Commander Orvos Legen, CE

Thoth tried to straighten and look Orvos in the eye but there seemed to be no strength in him. “Your ship has been taken by our enemy Ares, if we can get off the planet before Ares forces know we have a space vessel we may be able to take it back. I can tell you the rest on the way but I can only hold my illusion over this place for a few minutes longer, if we don’t take off before then, we will be countered and lose the chance”.

Effortlessly lifting the man, Yami looked at them, “I’m inclined to believe him”.

Stark rolled his eyes, “Shore leave… never again I tell you, never again”.

Whether this was real or fantasy Marishka was fully invested and along for the ride. She had been listening intently while silently keeping pace with Orvos.

On the Athena she joked with him and would have flatly disagreed with him if he dared formally try to order her around but, this was different and she hoped he understood that.

  • Marishka

Orvos stopped. “Hold then! Let me try something.”

He looked to his wrist device. which at one point had doubled as a communicator to the original Aurora. Would it work this time?

He clicked the tiny interface. “Orvos to Aurora, 5 to beam directly to the bridge!”

-Lt. Commander Orvos Legen, CE

Sparkling lights appeared before their faces as they appeared on the bridge of the Aurora.

Thoth, still held in Yami’s arms, winked at Orvos, “I pride myself on the detail of my work”.

Marishka looked from Orvos to Thoth and then began making a detailed study of the bridge.

  • Marishka

Yami laid Thoth gently down in a chair and checked him over. He patted her hand in a grandfatherly way.

“Don’t fuss my dear, I’m worn from holding us from the second sight, once we reach out goal I’ll be fine”.

Yami nodded but her eyes showed the gravity of the situation. She began to make flight preparations as if she had been working in the ship all her life.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Marishka felt a bit out of sorts at the moment which was a fairly unusual feeling for her.

“What would you have me do?” she asked Thoth.

  • Marishka

Smiling, Thoth replied quietly, “What you do best Warrior Princess, beat the hell out of whoever we find on the ship”.

Orvos had taken a moment, soaking in the details of his old ship. How they had been so accurate was beyond him. He appreciated it though.

The bridge was well lit with small consoles positioned throughout. The pilot seat sat dead center of the viewscreen. The captain’s chair was behind that with multiple holographic images on display around it. The Operations console was positioned to the left of the captain’s seat, and the weapons station was positioned to the right. Several science and engineering stations lined the right and left walls of the rectangular bridge. And that was only the bridge. Orvos was fully aware of the other amenities aboard including specialized weapons in the armory and yacht with an attached special operations vehicle for land.

Orvos moved to where Yami had left Thoth. “We need to retake the Athena. Can you tell me anything about the captors? After feeling rushed, I feel like I still don’t know much about our current situation.” He had briefly recalled the mention of Ares, he thought? He recalled the being as a mythological god on earth. His mind churned as he waited for Thoth’s reply.

-Lt. Commander Orvos Legen, CE

Marishka had been standing quietly beside Orvos. They were in the one place where he could actually give her an order and expect her to take it but that might come later. For now, she was instinctively drawn to the weapon station.

Silently she glided across the bridge until she had reached it but didn’t actually want to touch anything quite yet.

  • Marishka

Orvos happen to notice how the controls shifted as she got closer. He designed them, so he knew what was happening.

Thoth’s eye’s became distant for a moment, “Ares main forces are below, I can only sense two Beings aboard the Athena. They will become aware of us soon so if you have any tricks to get us on board I’d suggest you use them. Then we take them captive, regain the ship, pulverise the shield over the planet and swoop in to save the day, nice and simple”.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Orvos gave a grin, albeit a bit inauthentic as he took in the situation.

He moved to the captain’s chair and took a seat. “So, for all intents and purposes, you lot ought to know what we’re getting into. This ship was one of the most advanced that the El Aurian people once had. Full of neat tricks, she is. We’ve got a cloak if need be, but I never liked fighting unfairly. Never tried getting the cloak to work while using weapons. Might need to negotiate. There’s also a yacht at the lowest deck. Could use it to flank the Athena, though Athena may be much more powerful than that delightful joyride.” He was thinking aloud.

“Need to know more about Ares,” he said, turning to Thoth. “Why are there only 2 beings aboard the Athena? Can they seriously keep the ship from being invaded?”

“Ares is arrogant, watcher” Thoth replied, “He thinks us as being toothless and helpless and unable to leave the planet. He leads the invasion on the hotel below with Hades as his second. The two beings aboard will have knowledge of how to use the ship but not the intricacies of its operating systems. They cannot hope to match your knowledge. That said after we are aboard we will have to face them. Orion and the Minotaur are not to be trifled with, they will put up a fight”.

“Stark, Marishka, take a seat and get comfy. We’re going to need all the help you can give.” Orvos said, reassuring the two that it was ok to do as they saw fit.

Stark looked over the weaponry he had gathered, mainly bladed as was his nature, “The Minotaur, hmmm”, he winked at Marishka and smiled, “Shotgun”.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Marsihka didn’t appreciate that someone thought her helpless and toothless. She threw her head back and bared her teeth in a silent snarl. Perhaps that was unbecoming of a warrior princess but she felt the gesture fit.

“I think I belong with the ship’s weapons so I’ll stay right here.” she said cooly.

  • Marishka

Ares, Hades, Orion, the Minotaur…greek mythology, or was it? Orvos’s mind was racing as he issued out orders. “Helm, let’s get airborne. Take us out of visual range of the Athena. I want some distance to start with. If they happen to see us, if we take a course around the opposite side of the planet, perhaps they’ll think we’re on the run. Marishka, be ready with weapons. If they pursue, we should strike. Stark, is anyone monitoring communications? We need to see about getting a message to captain and rest of the crew, but perhaps it may not be wise if it takes away our element of surprise?”

Stark’s claws clacked away for a moment. “No one is on comms and their jamming field is pretty basic. I can punch through it I think, but if I do, they’re all going to know we’re up and about. Your ship, your call”.

Turning his attention to Thoth as helm followed his orders, Orvos inquired further. “Orion was a hunter if I remember correctly, and the minotaur was quite the little beastie. All greek mythology, following the line of logic with Ares and Hades. Why are Greek gods and creatures here taking over the Athena and hoping to subdue the people of the Athena? What purpose does it serve? And who else should we be wary of?” It was clear, Orvos wanted the truth and the whole truth.

-Lt. Commander Orvos Legen, CE

Thoth was about to reply but Yami spoke first. “The Beings are a race empowered by the belief of others. Many like Athena and Ares found the power of humanity’s belief satisfied them beyond all other planets we visited. For instance the Vulcan’s turned from their earlier beliefs and many of the Beings there perished as their belief did. As the Hindu goddess of death I managed to survive and some of us found a way to exist with minimal belief from others but it was like grazing on grass after fine dining. Ares wants to take back the Earth and all other planets like it to restore himself to power as of old. He is aware of the EDOC machine and seeks to use it for his own ends to empower his followers and creatures. He is the epitome of Greek mythology and in some ways is limited to that way of thinking. You should thank the Creator for that because if he is empowered beyond his current state anything he dreams up can become reality and the worlds we love will become slaves of hell reimagined”.

Marishka had slipped into the weapon’s station quite nicely and set about familiarizing herself with it as she listened to the conversation. It had been a long time since she had been on the bridge of anything resembling a starship. Fantasy or not, this felt good.

Now it was all making sense. Yami and Izanami and their strangeness aboard the Athena, to even what was going on now. “So, Ares wants to enslave us all and regain earth along with many others world, eh? And he thinks taking the Athena will help, hmmm?” He moved over to the command chair and sat down in it like he had all those years ago when the Aurora was truly his own.

After sitting down, translucent holographic controls and readings appeared before his eyes. “Let’s see about getting aboard the Athena. We’ll need to get the shields down or transport won’t be possible. We’ve got one of the best impulse drives around.” He transmitted information about the Athena to Marishka’s console. There were markers on the scaled version. “Those points will need to be hit if we’re going to bring down the shields. If we can’t hit those exact points, I do have a backup plan. Let’s just hope we don’t need to resort to it though. Risky really.”

“Helm, let’s pull in quietly behind the Athena. Marishka, get ready for a sweeping run on those shield emitters. Once they’re down, let’s beam in somewhere we know will be safe.”

Orvos then looked about the bridge. “This is a serious situation, but we’ll get through it…one way or another,” he said aloud, the second part a little on the quieter side.
