Daggum looked at her and smiled a caring smile. “Hey, it happens.”
Janna regarded Viyara with a neutral expression though it certainly wasn’t unkind- her therapist’s mask reengaged for the moment. “What made you return?” she asked simply as she poured herself a cup of coffee and slid the press to Daggum.

Viyara blinked a few times, confused by the question and (thus) uncertain how to reply. Tugging a little on the hem of her top, she finally said, “I just needed some space. Time and room to breath. And …” Her voice trailed off and she took a few breath, trying to steel herself. “I also needed to distract myself so I wouldn’t do something stupid and making things worse,” she admitted, her shoulders pulled slightly forward, her gaze fixed on the tiled floor. “I’m sorry for … for being such a broken mess.”

Kingston tilted her head and gazed at Viyara. “That’s why you fled, but I asked what made you return. Different question,” she said gently. She wasn’t going to acknowledge or validate Viyara’s negative self-image.

Her brows knitted together, Viyara slowly lifted her head and looked at Janna. Confusion and defensiveness written all over her expression. “I needed some space. After I got that and felt a little calmer I came back. What else was there to do?” she asked a little defiantly.
