Adonis suddenly threw herself down on the floor and released a globe of glass that exploded sending a flat shockwave that staggered the three. There was the sound of shattering glass as Adonis rolled and dove out of a window.

Stark looked up his eyes still stinging. He ran to the window and came back with a disgusted look on his face muttering words of fury at her escape.

Looking at Marishka he grinned, “Well that was fun while it lasted, pretty sure I saw a few tango and rhumba moves in that repertoire of yours”.

Turning around they realised that the Klingon’s had clenched fists to their chests and were awaiting their Queen’s direction.

Marishka roared. For a fleeting instant she sensed defeat as the creature leapt out the window but then, her focus shifted back to the room. She saw Stark, Orvos, and all those Klingons. For a few seconds there was silence as she took in the scene. Raising her right hand she pointed at the window.

“After it! Don’t let it escape! Find it and kill it!” she commanded.

  • Marishka

The Klingon’s rushed to do her bidding but they all headed the other way, away from the window.

Orvos pulled his hand away from his wrist device and strode forward. “So do we chase it? Or do we move on to the next sword? Or is there anyone else we’ll be expecting to join us along the way?”

-Lt. Commander Orvos Legen, CE

Stark motioned to the window, “100-foot vertical drop, one of the advantages of shapeshifting is wings”. He looked around for a second and then continued, “Nicely done and with a minimum of bloodshed. I’m not sure what the next move is, chasing her will be fruitless but she might have left some clues here in the castle.” He pointed to the drone, “Is that thing capable of finding hidden doors?”

Orvos leveled his arm up to launch the drone. “It’s got much of the same features a starship would have. Not all, but much.” As soon as he finished his sentence, the drone relaunched from his wrist and started looping the room.

Marishka had come fully back to her senses. She noticed the drone and wondered if it had recorded the previous events. No-one would ever believe what had just taken place here. That was probably part of the magic of the whole thing though.

“Okay Stark, is there anything else I should know about what just happened to me? I’m guessing this is permanent so… What am I living with?” she asked.

  • Marishka

“I can answer that,” S’Raal dropped from the mezzanine above, “It’s hard to quantify, but essentially the silicon has bonded with your nervous system in parallel relays that enable you to be able to communicate in what can be best be described as an inner companion. The being doesn’t take over but it does enable you to move with the sword as if you are one. The last time I was bonded, Excalibur was taken from me when his mass was used to repair the time space rift along with his brothers and sisters”.

Orvos listened as he monitored the drone for any readings that would lead to a secret hideout or that would indicate something abnormal.

The drone was detecting a locked door to a passageway to the right behind the floor to ceiling curtains.

Marishka looked at S’Raal in surprise.

“Um… Did that hurt?” she asked.

  • Marishka

S’Raal golden eyes saddened slightly, “Not physically, but it was like losing a friend”.

“Ah ha!” shouted Orvos as his drone hovered in front of a locked door. “Got ya!”

He then turned on a dime to the others present. “Also, let’s say we all make it out of here alive. I was not aware personally that Stark here was connected to Skotos. How long have you been connected with it? Furthermore, will we retain these connections after we accomplish our tasks?” As they replied he then gestured them all to follow him to his drone.

Stark spoke up. “Skotos called to me when we were on Rura Penthe in the Mirror Realm during our last mission. That’s what started this whole chain of events off. The last time we went through this, it was five years from start to finish, but in the end, all of us lost the swords. It was their purpose to knit the breach with their substance and wisdom. The Skotos within me now remembers everything from our last adventure but says she isn’t the Skotos I wielded the first time. I asked for an explanation and after 2 minutes my brain started bleeding from the strain of trying to understand the paradox”.

Orvos raised an eyebrow. “Lovely,” was all he could say at the moment.

Orvos had the drone scan the door for any irregularities and how the lock mechanism worked.

The door was solid steel and the lock mechanism was biometric requiring fingerprints and a retinal scan.

Stark spun slightly as the others came in having been alerted by the rampaging Klingons of the latest news.

Marishka followed the others to the door, a small part of her was a little perturbed that, somehow, a door had been locked on their Queen but, mostly, she had been listening to Stark and S’Raal explain the sword that now dwelt within her.

“I doubt I have a lock pick for this.”

  • Marishka

Michail put his hand on the pad. “I can short this, but it’s 50/50 as to whether that would open it or lock it for good”.

Michail

“Requires fingerprints and retina scan to open,” stated Orvos as he recalled the drone to his wrist. “Shorting out the circuit may be our best bet unless we can find the one who’s eye can open it up.” He stood by, figuring shorting the circuit was ultimately their only choice.
