S’Raal settled himself into a deckchair and looked out over the infinity pool to the ocean far below at the bottom of the plunging cliff the hotel was built into on this side. Overcoming a brief moment of vertigo he watched his svelte wife play with Meryidiyth in the pool.

T’Pon’s regimen to recover her shape after giving birth had been very Vulcan and very effective but S’Raal’s trained doctors eyes could still see the telltale signs of a woman who had given birth. He smiled as Meryidiyth giggled and splashed the water while being held in her mother’s arms.

Meryidiyth’s astonishing growth spurt in the womb and beyond had steadily settled into a normal developmental rate for which S’Raal was grateful on the other hand Meryidiyth’s mental and psionic development were still decidedly abnormal. However, today S’Raal was a dad not a doctor and he put it all aside and looked over the idyllic scene of the pool, the view and the bar/restaurant. He sighed in contentment and relaxed.

S’Raal Cran Moonshadow

“Quite the happy family Doctor Moonshadow” A voice came from behind S’Raal. Benjamin Grey stood there, he was wearing swimming shorts and a shirt unbuttoned all the way, out of his uniform he was not as thin, he had the build of a swimmer. In one hand he had a glass filled with dark liquid, around his neck hung a pendant, S’Raal was one of the few medical staff in the know that said pendant had something that numbed the youngish Chief Medical Officers unnaturally keen sense of smell. “It’s good to see Meryidiyth in such a joyous state”

Dr. Grey - CMO

S’Raal grinned from ear to ear, “Quite the happy family indeed Dr Grey”. He shielded his eyes from the sun as he looked up at the man. “This is a touch of paradise we all really needed. Do you have any plans for your R&R?”.

S’Raal Cran Moonshadow

Benjamin squatted so S’Raal wouldn’t have to crane his neck as much and so Ben wouldn’t have to look so far down “Not really, I wanted to walk around the hotel, perhaps see some sights.” He said with a smile “I wonder if they have any farm animals here” He said mostly to himself “I think I’ll also find somewhere quiet to find whatever they call a pint here.” He shook his drink “Have you found any family entertainment here?” He asked.

Dr. Grey - CMO

S’Raal’s golden eyes glowed as he whipped out an old style paper pamphlet from its resting place next to his reclining deck chair. “They have everything you can think of and more, amusement park, sauna. kiddy ball pits, bowling alley, trampoline complex and the list goes on. Strangely, no holodecks. “.

Benjamin nodded, but who would need a Holodeck on a place like this.

S’Raal continued scanning, “Looks like there are settlements all over the planet with other attractions as well… butterfly park, safari tour, horse treks, that might be the place to find the farm animals you’re looking for, can’t see any Old English Pubs but considering this list I wouldn’t be surprised”. S’Raal sighed contentedly, “I think I could retire here” he said with a chuckle.

S’Raal Cran Moonshadow

Ben answered the chuckle with a laugh of his own “As good a place as any to retire I suppose” He said looking at the child playing in the water, his feelings regarding Moonshadows family were always a mixture of joy, sadness, and shame that he managed to cover decently well behind his smile “When I was a lad I grew up on a farm, almost became a veterinarian exclusively. Perhaps that’s as good a retirement plan as any other”

Dr. Grey - CMO

“True,” S’Raal said quietly, “A veterinarian you say? Now that’s a coincidence, I had the same thoughts but was stopped dead in my tracks when ever the thought of euthanasia came up… just couldn’t face the look on a kids face…”

T’Pon threw Meryidiyth up and caught her again as she hit the water with squeals of delight. It was obvious to those that knew them that they communicated in ways beyond the norm. Every now and again Meryidiyth would touch her mother’s face and become momentarily still and intent followed always by a secret smile matched and mirrored by T’Pon’s own smile.

Ben looked at the two women splashing in the water and smiled, the smile turned sardonic as he turned back to S’Raal “It was a rare thing on my farm having to put down an animal, mostly old age or disease gone too far to cure. Never a thing to enjoy but still necessary” He gave himself a good shake “Well I did get my veterinarian studies out of the way before coming to the Athena” He chuckled and looked back at T’Pon and the child, for a moment he felt a pain in his side, it wasn’t a real pain but a memory he had chosen to keep, absentmindedly he rubbed his side “I trust Meryidiyth is fine” He asked before taking a sip of his drink resisting the urge to down the whole thing.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Normally S’Raal wouldn’t have been able to resist waxing lyrical about the new addition to his life but many years of doctoring kicked into gear when Grey touched his side. “Everything alright? You looked like you’re in pain”.

S’Raal Cran Moonshadow

Benjamin blinked in surprise and frowned at the Catian “What?” He looked at his hand and quickly stopped and frowned at his own hand “No just remembering an old hurt. Occasionally I’ll remember things, sensations, and scents as if they were happening again” He smiled awkwardly “I try not to let my mind wander” HE realized he hadn’t spoken about this before “I have a variation on eidetic memory, I theorize it’s how my mind deals with my sense of smell” He shrugged “It’s fading already, I’ll be fine in a few minutes.”

Dr. Grey - CMO

S’Raal’s golden eyes widened as he took that in, “So you have a sense memory that affects your entire nervous system recreating the sensations of the memory. I’m not sure if I want to say that’s amazing or terrifying. Have you tested the physiological and psychological ramifications to your health or would focusing on it make it worse?” S’Raal suddenly realised that even asking about ti might have that selfsame affect and quickly buttoned up.

Benjamin blinked in surprise and felt heat in his cheeks, for a moment he’d forgotten he was speaking with a fellow doctor. He shook his head both to say no and to regain his composure, he never felt as confident when he was out of his long white coat in his Sickbay “I’ve done some tests and been tested. I don’t ‘feel’ it exactly like it happens. It’s foggier as if it were a dream, the sensations I mean. When I recall something especially emotionally intense I can often feel how I felt but I’ve theorized that I can recall any sensation with the right kind of focus. It makes for an interesting neurological study as it’s mostly emotions.” He pulled out the necklace holding the small pendant filled with scents that he occasionally sniffed from “You’ve seen me use these occasionally before” He stated it as a fact, most of his staff was familiar with it “It allows me to focus my sense of smell but an unexpected side effect is that it allows me to focus on the now.” His smile returned “Don’t worry about bringing up old sensations or memories, feeling physical sensations happens rarely, I think it’s mostly connected to intense emotional moments, I think there are perhaps a couple dozen moments in my life I can recall like that, mostly firsts; first time in space, first kiss. Other more traumatic like shoving a laser scalpel in a tentacle monster out of pure foolishness.” He pointed to Meryidiyth “Or other momentous occasions, I can recall her birth quite vividly although that’s mostly emotional rather than physical” He added as a final example.

Dr. Grey - CMO

“Then I will go with amazing instead of terrifying” S’Raal said his golden fur rippling in the slight breeze, “It makes sense considering I too can recall some moments more vividly than others due to my emotional investment in them. That level of focus must be extremely useful in our line of work, I’m a little envious”.

T’Pon continued to throw Meryidiyth in the air to giggles of delight. There were moments when S’Raal wished his daughter had been born without her special abilities. He knew full well what that meant for her future, he had watched what had happened to his uncle and he didn’t want the same to happen to his daughter. In this moment however, such things seemed distant and far away.

Benjamin nodded, silently relieved that the conversation had veered back to the bonuses of his senses and not the limitations and other negative qualities. He chuckled although more to clear his throat than to laugh “Well I won’t keep you from your family” He waved at the mother-daughter duo and stood up from his squat “I think I’ve intruded enough” He said with a sheepish grin.

Dr. Grey - CMO

“You are welcome anytime Benjamin”, S’Raal said dreamily as he relaxed next to the pool watching his family play.

S’Raal Cran Moonshadow

Benjamin nodded “Thanks S’Raal” He said with a smile and turned on his heels and left the pool area.

Dr. Grey - CMO

S’Raal was enjoying the sun when suddenly he was half drenched by a splash of water. T’Pon and Meryidiyth looked at him with matching naughty faces. Looking shocked and outraged for a brief second before smiling S’Raal launched out and over the top of them, landing feet first he started a splashing war that had many people ducking for cover.

S’Raal Cran Moonshadow

T’Pon left S’Raal in the pool to play with their daughter for a while. Lounging in the sun she nodded with a certain satisfaction that giving birth had not affected her overall shape and fitness to an alarming degree. She watched some of the other denizens of the pool looking for familiar faces, or perhaps new faces to meet.

T’Pon

Meryidiyth’s mind was never far from her mother’s mind and when the little girl felt a flash of fear T’Pon was instantly aware. S’Raal holding his daughter felt her stiffen and immediately looked to his wife knowing she would have insight.

T’Pon moved swiftly to the side of the pool and placed her hand on her daughter’s face. An instant later she saw what her daughter was aware of. Every single attendant at the pool had suddenly stopped stock still and looked to be listening intently to something.

T’Pon

Suddenly Athena’s crew started to appear in bright flashes of light. T’Pon surged to her feet in consternation.

Asclepius strode out into the pool area and overlooked the preparations that had already begun. S’Raal and T’Pon, baby strapped to her hip, were setting out pool loungers as temporary beds. The bearded man grunted with satisfaction and addressed those assembled. “Normally I would heal by those abilities gifted me but we need all of the power of the EDOC for the fight so we will use what we have at hand”.

Looking at Grey he grimaced slightly, “Your skills with med packs is more practiced than my own, our supplies are limited and until we have your ship back we will need to use them sparingly”. He pointed to the poolside bar, “We may even need to go old school at some point”.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist
OOC Assume that you have a standard sickbay’s supplies but with limits on how much you can use before running out. Let’s get creative :-)

Benjamin had been fussing with his shirt, buttoning it up to the top. He was grumbling about his lack of pants or proper shoes as he listened to apparat mythic figure speak. He snorted at the bearded man’s final comment “We’re going to go absolutely barbaric if things get bad. But as long as we have tools with power we can make do with limited medicines and similar treatments.” He started going over the supplies “Beyond your self proclaimed abilities what medicinal skills do you possess?” It was odd asking the personification of Human medicine what he was capable of but there was no time for niceties.

Dr. Grey - CMO

“I can tell you exactly what’s wrong” Asclepius said depreciatingly, “At full power I could heal it too, short of death itself. On a bad day like this one I’m a relatively gifted surgeon too”.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Benjamin nodded “Alright, that’ll work” He started buttoning up his shirt “We’ll need to set up somewhere we can clean up between patients, designated areas for different severities” Ben wasn’t sure what to expect but he would prepare for a battlefront. Not having a biobed was uncomfortable but something he could survive without but if tricorders failed things could get problematic. He pointed at one of his junior doctors “Make an inventory of all supplies and equipment and get me a full list.” Then turned to another NE “Clear out the bar, we’ll use it as a ressupply area. And find out if we can drain the pool”

Dr. Grey - CMO

A short time later all was in readiness as everyone hopped to their work. Different areas of the pool side were given priority for different tasks including a triage area. The bar had been cleared of everything apart from useful forms of alcohol. They had supplies laid out to treat most scrapes, breaks and bruises and enough skilled doctors present to be running 4 op theatres if necessary. The pool was drained as well and had become a medical area with a large transparent aluminum UV shield extended over the top of it.

Benjamin rubbed his hands together then clapped imaginary dust mites of them “Excellent work team, make sure that the other team has access to stretchers so wounded can be brought back here.” He looked down at his shorts “And somebody get me some bloody pants” He didn’t give the orders to anyone in particular but then, of course, he didn’t need to. He turned to the Bearded alien/god/doctor “Do you know what to expect, does this Ares have combatants of his own and will they also be armed like our forces?” He asked, in his mind, he was going through procedures on how to treat wounds inflicted by bladed weapons. He lingered for a while on treatments for Klingon swords as that could be some of the most difficult yet versatile wounds to heal.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Asclepius put his hand on Benjamin’s shoulder and suddenly the doctors eyes leapt into the horizon searching across Anchor Point Island finally coming to rest on a coastal area. Stretched out below was a staging ground showing archers, soldiers with short swords and shields and horsemen. Snorting fire were Chimera with one head of a lion, one of a snake, and another of a goat, lion claws in front and goat legs behind, and a long snake tail. Ares sat on top of a large green Dragon and next to him was Hades hand on top of a massive three headed dog. Ben’s eyes flew back to his normal vision as Asclepius explained.

Benjamin tensed when the man hand touched his shoulder and grew even more so as his vision… changed. It was as if the Alien had activated a viewscreen in the vision centre of his brain. When the vision finally ended he didn’t move, remaining rigid.

“Expect energy burns as well, those weapons are enchanted with electricity and fire. I know it looks dire but actually it’s better than I thought, they have no giants, manticore or gorgons with them”.

A low breath finally left Ben’s lips and his right hand went up to his head, rubbing his temple, he didn’t feel different and the experience hadn’t been physically discomforting but mentally was an entirely different thing. He visibly gathered himself then slowly turned to the Doctor “Please don’t do that ever again” He said in a quiet voice. He shook his head, even a description of the enemy forces would have been hard to believe but actually seeing them even if it was a god induced trance. The scientist in him wanted to study the effect, see what more could be viewed and how exactly it worked but the man did not, he very much did not “Alright, ” He put hands on hips and looked over his staff, they would do what must be done and so would he. He inhaled deeply through his nostrils, the familiar scents jumbled together, in an open space it was much more difficult to get an accurate read on numbers but his mind turned the information into something he could interpret. “Alright” He repeated himself after a moments pause “This’ll work, we’ll just make sure to ration, make sure we have supplies that last as long as possible then use whatever is at hand”

Dr. Grey - CMO

S’Raal appeared with T’Pon close behind. “Put us where you need us,” he said with a wry grimace.

S’Raal Cran Moonshadow (Doctor)

Benjamin had just managed to sort all the different scents into different people when S’Raal approached. He turned around and looked at the former chief appraisingly “Yes, right. You’ll run Op room 2 such as it is, I’ll man op one and Asclepius here will man Op 3” He looked around for Karina, he hadn’t yet picked out her scent. “T’Pon if you could help maintain our supply line and keep track of our stockpile” He looked across his new operating centre as he spoke, plans and possibilites floating around in his head, already he was visualising the chaos that would follow and trying to see the best way to deal with them.

Dr. Grey - CMO

T’Pon nodded her assent and shifted Meryidiyth to a comfortable position on her back. She began to organise anyone who looked like they had nothing to do.

T’Pon

From the front of the hotel fighting had started and the sounds of screaming echoed around the building. First through the door were a group of friendlies who had taken multiple lacerations and energy burns.

One of them called out “Get us back in the fight!”

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Benjamin went to work right away, putting the patients into order of severity and choosing the most severe for himself “You’ll get back in the fight if I think you should get back not before” He said in a calm voice, he might get testy outside of work but he was now only focused on his craft.

Dr. Grey - CMO

The one who had called out looked slightly taken aback and looked at Asclepius with frustration. Asclepius calmly walked over and slapped the man hard on the back of the head.

“Know your place soldier” was all he said as he continued to work on patching up those more severely wounded.

The two most severe were a young woman holding her intestines in place after a cut across her abdomen and a young man who had lost both his legs from just below the knee from some unknown bladed weapon. Both were in shock and losing blood.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Benjamin quickly organized the two most serious patients, taking the intestine woman for himself. He got her quickly to his operating area, he first began checking to see if the previously internal organs required repair as he quickly worked on the blood loss.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Asclepius took the other and went to work clamping arteries.

The young woman’s intestines were mercifully undamaged but had become entangled as they slipped out of the wide cut across her belly. The noise of battle was coming closer.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Benjamin hissed a quiet curse as he carefully started to untangle the woman’s intestines after he finished stopping the bleeding. The encroaching battle was a concern but right now he had a patient to stabilize.

Dr. Grey - CMO

There was a loosening of the intestines but during the move the patient suddenly went into a shock induced convulsion and ended in cardiac arrest from further complications.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Benjamin didn’t have time to curse, He immediately began CPR, quickly ordering a Nurse to take care of the intestine “Emergency PSU” He called out as he began the compressions. Another aide brought the pulmonary support unit and began attaching it to the patient.

Dr. Grey - CMO

It didn’t take long to hook up the unit but it was long enough for the next wave of wounded to start arriving. The preparations held and triage was not overwhelmed but it was dangerously close. The smell of blood and suffering wafted on the air.

CPR was keeping the blood pumping but oxygen deprivation was not far away.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

With the PSU Unit in place, Benjamin stopped the CPR “Alright, oxygen pump” He said as he prepared the device to stabilize his patient’s heart. NE Rachet went to work to give the patient the much-needed oxygen.

Dr. Grey - CMO

The patient stats started to rise and with the internal organs being replaced in good order they could breath easier. Next on the dance card was a young ensign who was suffering third degree burns to half of his body, the back half.
