Taban looked up and noticed the lizard. “Sir, is that reptilian creature supposed to be loose on the ship?”

Liam sighed then glanced up. For a moment, the annoyed expression softened then hardened again, resuming his displeasure over the situation.

“No, he is not. But I’m not surprised he is. He always seems to manage to escape his habitat whenever his basking rock isn’t enough.” He leaned over and pulled open a drawer, revealing a small tool in his hand. It was a screw driver. A piece of work that lasted centuries because it was pointless to improve on what was already functional and perfect for its job.

Liam pushed out from his chair and began to climb the desk. He paused long enough to give Brook instruction.

“Can you hold me steady while I get him down?” From his reaction, this appeared to be an incident that happened more than once.

“Yes, sir.” Taban moved to steady the desk, positioning himself such that if the commander needed to shift over, Taban would be underneath.

After Taban secured his position, Liam reached up and began to unscrew the bindings holding the vent grill in place. Once removed he passed it down to his assistance to hold.

The reptile wasted no time and crawled down, pausing on the CSO’s shoulder. Red plumage decorated its neck as it fanned out, appearing pleased with the release. Its head shifted then noticed Taban, curisoty obvious in its body language. Slowly it dug in its claws and began to scale its way down Liam’s legs, coming face to face with the new Officer. A bluish tongue flicked out inches from the nose.

“Careful, he might make a dash for it. Scales is a bit skittish around sudden movements. Last time he got loose in my office, it took a day to find him.” Liam said, replacing the vent grill and fastening it in place.

Taban nodded and slowly reached a hand out, allowing the lizard to climb onto his arm if it so chose. “What species is he?” the ensign asked.

(OOC: Sorry I’ve been really slow and not had much in my posts.)

A soft trill escaped Scales’ throat as he scrambled onto the new perch. His head immediately rubbed against the new skin and leaving a slight musk in the motion’s wake. Pleased by his new conquest, Scales began to travel up the arm toward the face.

“We’re still trying to figure it out. An officer from my old post found him being sold by an illegal trader on a colony. He couldn’t identify the species and requested it was sent to me. Scales was in poor condition when he arrived. When comparing his DNA, we discover markers that indicate he might not be a naturally occurring species.” Liam began to lower himself down from the desk. He leaned over to place the tools once more in the desk drawer and closed it.

“So far, we found a large match to an Earth Iguanas and macaws. However, there’s still traces left unknown and it will take time to id them. Personally, I don’t think we’ll ever truly know. Considering his history, I’m more content with studying him and using him to train future officers until the end of his lifespan.” His eyes flicked to Brook, hoping the man agreed with his final decision. Some times his compassion showed through even for animals.

(OOC: It’s all good, I’m patient. Don’t be scared to puppet the lizard about and use it to add more to your posts or letting Brook’s curiosity take off when examining Scales. As long as he doesn’t hurt it. Liam’s mainly seeing his reaction and observing how the officer reacts toward the unknown. Also, Scales loves scratches, heat, and snacks. Mainly fruit or insects. )
