Cereberus seemed to be having an internal argument within itself, institutionally it wanted to attack this pesky gnat but the fact that the gnat had stood up to a full blast of fire confused it.

Not sure why the mutt ceased its attack, Liam watched it carefully. The handle of the blade was still hot from the Chimera’s blaze and sizzled against the protective layer on his skin. Time ticked in slow motion while the tension filled the air. Not wanting the dog’s attention to drift, he feigned a lunge forward.

“Come on, cat got your tongue?” Though Liam heavily doubted Cerberus could understand him, the taunt was still fun to say.

It was pretty obvious by the reaction that Cerberus understood the jibe as all three heads struck out at Liam in quick succession.

When Cerberus lashed out, Liam jerked sideways. His body was a narrower target as the fangs of the right and left head narrowly missed him. Their fangs ripped into the sides of his uniform leaving shallow, harmless wounds. Meanwhile, his blade raised to keep the middle from ripping off his face. The only flaw in his defense was that the CSO was built more for dodging and slashing, not holding his ground against a monster.

His teeth gritted in the effort as his right hand let go and pressed over the dog’s eyes. Heat from the blade continued to dance ever closer to his face, indicating its threat of slicing him through. He continued to struggle to keep it back one handed. Focusing on anger and fury, he began to pour heat into his palms. If the dog wasn’t fire-proof, this brief contact should render the hound blind as its eyes were being gradually cooked.

“I think it’s time you heel.” Liam growled, his mind painfully aware of LB starting to stir.

A’zna did her best to dodge spinning away to the right of the attack then counter attack the more holes she opened up in the creature the faster it would bleed out swinging the polearm down to chop at the paw of the creature

A’zna

The Chimera roared in frustration and made a desperate lunge to bear A’zna to the ground.

R’han continued to move side to side, angling his body then shield and back and forth. Using the old shield and spear style leaning his blade over his shield pointing at his opponent. There was very little exposed and Hades had to close against a man with a pointy steel sword on the other of a large shield meaning he had to throw himself against metal wall to get to the flesh part on the other side.

R’han

Hades was looking warily at his opponent, something was worrying him and in the distance it seems that Athena was beginning to wear the god of War down. Focusing on his hands the spikes lengthened to a foot long single spike in the middle, all the better to reach behind the defensive stance. Moving like a snake he lunged forward in a flurry of strikes.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

No, no, no, R’han found the extension and the snakey lunge very uncomfortable. He backed away with long circular figure eight strokes before him trying to keep Hades at range before reassuming his defensive shield sword combination. If Hades was going to get deperate and lunge aggressively enough to get to R’han quickly he would have to naviagate the sword strokes which was designed to cause little damage to a cautious opponent and huge slashes to an aggressive one.

A’zna rolled into its attack Slicing at its belly again the others needed her help and this fight was taking way to long! she was not happy that she was getting dragged into the battle but it could not be helped now

A’zna

Suddenly there was a palpable change across the battlefield as a wave of strength hit them all. Their opponents started to falter and a voice cried out.

“Cease!”

All eyes swung to see the God of War flat on his back with Athena’s spear at his throat.

R’han didn’t strike, much like he avoided doing so for the majority of the conflict. He likewise didn’t lower his guard. One person announcing ‘cease’ didn’t mean anyone would and he wasn’t about to get stabbed in the back.

R’han

Hades also did not lower his guard, at first. His face radiated disappointment as he saw that his leader was flat on his back.

Jennifer startled slightly, looking over to Athena. Some sources listed her as the goddess of battle strategy, so it made some kind of poetic sense that she’d be the one to defeat Ares, god of violence. Brains over Brawn, as they say.

Athena let Ares get up slowly the spear point still at his throat and all watched the interchange in a silence that seemed eerie where once was the battle sounds of death and dying.

Athena turned to the others of her kind, “Death or exile? What say you all?”

Before anyone could reply Ares called out, “You have no right to judge me and mine! You kept this power for yourselves! I claim the right to neutral judgement!” he pointed to the Captain. “I claim the right to be judged by her and her people!”.

R’han snorted. That would be a bad idea. R’han did not believe in leaving people behind to seek vengeance.

Hades snorted at the exact moment R’han did. He looked at him and begrudgingly include his head in acknowledgement of their shared sentiment.

A’zna kept her Naginata pointed at the Chimera however she edged her way closer to the captain so she could whisper to her “We do not know their laws of customs how can we judge Ares?” she asked

A’zna

Jenn looked at A’zna thoughtfully, then stepped away from her and stepped over to Ares and Athena. “Do you wish to be judged under our laws and customs? If that’s what you’re asking for, then certainly, I’ll judge you. You have attacked the crew of a Federation Starship, possibly killed some of my crew in the process. I believe under most accounts that would land you and your people on a Federation prison for a few years. Or at least a correctional facility. That’s probably better than death, though. But I’ll hear you out. Why did you attack us? There are other options for conflict resolution.”

Ares was finding it hard to look regal lying on the ground but his voice rang out. “You joined my enemy, the ones that have hoarded this power for themselves. You are armed with their weapons. I harmed no one on your ship, I sent them to the surface and your ship is whole!”

She glanced out at the aftermath of the battle. “You could have come to the Athena with a plea. The ship, not… Admiral Anathema. If she had attacked your people first, she would be in the wrong, no matter the history between you. But you chose to attack, and now that you lie under her sword, you plead for my help. For my neutral judgement. Answer me this… what will you do with the power? Will you live in peace, or will you conquer?”

Wallace, CO

“We know no other way!” Ares throat bled a small trickle of blood as his throat convulsed, “We exist through belief and that is scarce these days, can we help that which we are? We have always tried to rule benevolently but I ask you this, if you faced extinction through lack of belief, if you could cease to exist simply because people forget your name, what steps would you take to ensure the survival of your people?”

A’zna had to fight very hard to keep from laughing the thought of trying to keep what was equal in power almost to Q himself in a Prison or correctional facility of any kind was not a job she wanted to have to figure out pinching the bridge of her nose and shaking her head lightly at the thought the looser strands of her bun whipping about then she refocused attention on the Chimera not completely trusting that as an animal it would not try to finish her off anyway

A stillness had fallen between Cerberus and Liam, their postures on guard and frozen in place. It was an unnatural sight to witness for two individuals earlier engaged in combat. Even when the scenery about had been engulfed in violence and chaos earlier. The CSO calmly listened to the exchange between the CO and Ares, the later pleading his case. Desperation was a common driving force, but it didn’t excuse one from some consequence.

His voice interrupted the fallen God with his own words.

“Our ventures into the stars and to new planets have often led us into life or death situations. Some stranger than others, but in the end we managed to ensure our survival and only result to violence when forced to. I’m a firm believer that knowledge has more power than physical force.” He decided to take a risk.

Liam lowered his blade and sheathed it. After a deep breath, he turned his back on Cerberus. The parasite that had replaced his trapezoid muscle was exposed and with one strike, the damage dealt to it could end his life. It was a risk, but he believed actions spoke louder than words in this situation. He didn’t stop as he continued to speak his mind.

“The biggest question I have: If surviving meant changing your nature, would you be willing do that? Your myths don’t paint you in an appealing light and your assault on the hotel doesn’t give evidence against it. Athena’s very existence is proof that by adapting, you can survive.”

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci

R’han allowed the others to debate, he just looked at Hades, his razor claws and his defensive position…

R’han

Jennifer didn’t speak, gesturing towards her Officers as they spoke. She was not the only voice that mattered in this discussion.
