Marishka had picked up the drink Orvos had made as she looked in one of the mirrors that had been strategically placed behind the bar.

Two Klingons had entered obviously travelling as a pair. One seemed to be a commonplace perhaps in the mid to late thirties dressed unremarkably for a Klingon.

The first man carried himself with purpose and dignity and seemed to know exactly why he was there. He scanned the room but seemed to be waiting, perhaps for orders, from the man behind him.

That man was his elder by perhaps fifteen years, very solidly built and handsome. He had every appearance of an aristocratic warrior. Leaning forward, he spoke to the younger man and they took a table near the bar.

As Marishka watched them, she tried to keep her thoughts to herself as the drink drained from her glass.

“Friends? Oh no.”

She waited for a few heartbeats and met Orvos’ eyes.

“I need another drink my barkeep and I think my new friend needs one too.” she said quietly.

The way she held Orvos’ eyes, or hoped to, was different than any other time she had looked into her strange interesting friend’s eye for any reason. Hopefully he could read her a little bit by now. Sighing, she turned back to Khain and smiled.

“You know, I do wish there were two of me sometimes.”

  • Marishka

Now Khain did turn his head towards her, enough so that his single eye could look at her fully instead of the slight tilt that would have been possible if his left eye had no patch. “Something tells me that the amount of trouble the two of you could get into would be made into songs sung in certain taverns and halls across the Empire, if any of them were worthy of you. Which they aren’t.”

He leaned slightly closer to her and lowered his voice. “Do you want me to kill them?” He asked her, his chin motioning slightly towards the table where the pair were seated. “You know, since I’m such a thug and all and into that kind of thing.” The smirk on his face was clear now with the tease. “We have them surrounded. Shall we do it in a hail of weapons fire or shall we use blades. I have a spare one.”

Khain of House Kholl, Captain of the I.K.S. Khazad’hea

Marishka would have laughed but she didn’t need the attention at that moment.

“In my blood soaked dreams. But enough about me and unworthy taverns, you are not a thug, you are a true gentleman.”

“Me? A gentleman?” Khain’s single eye darted around the room behind her for a moment as if trying to find a hidden lurker, then came to rest on her again and all the while a smile played on his lips. “Who have you been talking to? That’s a secret.” He lowered his voice at the end for effect.

She reached up and almost put her finger to his lips.

“Don’t worry, I promise not to tell.” she whispered.

“Oh you can tell a little,” Khain grinned, reaching up and taking in his hand her hand that she had almost placed the finger of against his lips, his hand placed over hers. “That way, when someone comes up to me and tells me that they heard I was a gentleman, I’ll know you were talking about me.” While Khains action and words had a definite air of a flirt about it in the way he spoke, his action had more than one intent. By taking her hand in his anyone watching Marishka at the bar would be in no doubt that the armored Klingon beside her with the House Sash and assassins blade on his hip, would be standing next to her if anything was attempted.

Orvos had been busy making yet another slew of drinks. He was quick at it by now. He set several glasses of Scorpion Kiss on a tray. However, as he briefly heard what Khain was suggesting to Marishka, he took it upon himself to simply set a pair of the glasses down with the drink before them.

Looking at the drink set down beside them, Khain nodded to the bartender and looked at Marishka. “So what exactly is this Scorpions Kiss?”

Marishka attempted to give him a puzzled look but then smiled and decided not to insult his intelligence.

“It’s a layered drink. Seven different alcohols but, when you’re done, it looks yellow. Sweet with a slow burn and quite a kick. Maybe it is a woman’s drink, depending on the woman.”

He then strode his way to the table where the pair of klingons sat. “Well hello there gentlemen! Long travels? You seem like you both could use a drink.” Orvos then set the glasses down on the table with a klink. “This is on the house. Tell me what you think!” He stood there waiting patiently with the biggest grin on his face. Klingons gave him no fright. Marishka by this point would like know, that it was her orion side that caused his mind to trip over itself.

Both Klingons glared at Orvos. The older one didn’t even bother looking at the drink, the younger one picked it up, inhaled deeply, then threw the glass down on the floor shattering it.

Khain let out a slow sigh as he heard the glass shatter. While he could see what was happening in the mirror behind the bar, his ears told him more. “Klingons these days have no manners. What would it hurt to have some panache and culture now and then?” He shrugged and grinned at Marishka. “Dreams are free, right?”

“This is a woman’s drink and I’d like to know what woman taught you to make it.” he asked coldly.

  • Marishka

“Hmph, an oddly specific statement and demand,” Khain shook his head and looked at Marishka. “So, a womans’ drink is it? This Scorpion Kiss? Sweet with a kick then.” The way that he spoke the last words made it sound like he might have been talking about the drink, or might have been talking about Marishka. Whatever was going on behind them, he was aiming to keep her talking and relaxed. He had noted her reaction when they had walked in and he asked if they were her friends. She was good at what she was doing, but if she looked nervous even for a moment it might draw their attention, and Khain had the feeling that wasn’t what she wanted. He could be wrong though, he inwardly admitted to himself. Sometimes he was.

Orvos was familiar with klingon culture well enough. He simply kept his grin, left the shattered glass on the ground as he took a seat with them. “Now, now,” he started. “No need to get upset. Met plenty of women in my time, plenty to share the drink with me. Could have been anyone as far as you’re concerned. You know what really throws me off? Why are you here with good ole daddy tagging along? Need help getting around or something?” Orvos had now become accusatory on purpose. “Don’t look like you need a hover chair, Maybe your mentally ill?”

-Lt. Commander Orvos Legen, CE

“Okay, where is that mug I asked for,” Khain looked over the bar and frowned when he didn’t see it. “So, for future note a good solid metal mug is an excellent stand in for a pair of knuckle dusters in an old fashioned bar fight, like your friend is starting.” He casually explained.

“See you fill it with cheap booze, something that stings the eyes, and you can throw the drink in someone’s face and then clock them with the mug. Works every time. I learned it from a Bajoran I worked with for a while, he was in Starfleet but did some behind the scenes type work if you get my meaning. Shiny earring, confident son-of-a-gun, good with his hands. Anyway, it’s stopped many a bar fight before it really got going. I might be part thug, after all.” He smiled.

Pausing in what he was saying, he moved his foot onto the bar between the legs of her stool once more and looked at her closely. “You doing alright?”

Khain of House Kholl, Captain of the I.K.S. Khazad’hea

Marishka was looking Khain in the eye. Even with only one working eye, he could see she was all hunter, not prey. Her look of serene confidence told him that much. Her hand, that now rested in his trembled slightly in anticipation, not fear. If something was going to happen it was probably going to happen in the next few moments and she knew this Klingon warrior and Orvos, whom she trusted with her life, would be certain she made it out of that bar alive.

“Oh I like you,” Khain answered the look in her eye with his comment, but it was all serious and the humor was gone. “That look, makes me want to show you my ship, she would like you too.” He gave Marishka’s hand a slight squeeze as he looked her in the eye.

There was the clink of metal on the bar top as Cyden set a heavy bottomed mug down near Khain. Leaning in, he spoke quielty.

“Quite a sting.” he said.

“I like you too,” Khain told Cyden, and this time grinned. “You can charge whatever damage happens here tonight to House Kholl, my friend, I will cover it in full.”

The elder Klingon hadn’t moved during the exchange. He seemed to be watching the bar but, now, he turned back to the younger Klingon and this upstart bar tender, “Really? Your family couldn’t be bothered to send a better representative to accompany me? I expected better.” he said to the younger one.

The younger one stood and glared first at the older Klingon then at Orvos uncertain who was more worthy of his rage at that moment, “At least clean that up and bring me something palatable.” he growled at Orvos before turning on the older Klingon, “I don’t care what standing you hold in your family, I’m here because Kron demanded it of my father. So as soon as we’re done, you can take your sorry excuse for a prize and get out of my sight.”

  • Marishka

At the word prize, Khain frowned and found his eye moving back to Marishka. He looked at her a moment, before his eyebrow rose slightly. “Now I wonder what, or, who,” he drew out the word who longer than normal as he looked at her, “might be the prize he here to collect.” Maybe Khains mind clicked onto something, maybe not.

Orvos listened intently to the exchange. As a waiter passed him by, he grabbed a hold of him and said simply. “Bloodwine, full bottle, here on me.” He then let the young man go before turning a brilliant smile to pair of klingons at the table. He decided that now would be an excellent time to join them.

He pulled a chair out and sat down. “Well, now, let’s just hold on a minute. I’ve got a bottle of bloodwine on the way.” He put his hands on the table and leaned in. “What prize are we after, eh?” he said in a low volume so nobody would hear except for those at the table.

-Lt. Commander Orvos Legen, CE

The younger Klingon sat back down. The two Klingons proceeded to glare at one another and then turned their gaze on Orvos.

“I don’t think our business concerns you. My companion’s outburst borders on dishonor but, I’m certain that’s the last such you will hear from him.” the older one said.

  • Marishka

“Now true dishonour is to refuse a flagon of Bloodwine offered honourably after being disrespected by that youngling,” Khain said loud enough for the table to hear, and turned his head towards them. Bald head, eye-patch and emblem, House Sash and rank clearly visible on the immaculate black leather armour. “Your youngling thinks it is within his right to dishonour a man simply offering a drink in good faith,” Khain paused and looked at the mess on the floor, then at the older man directly. “Get your youngling to clean up the mess he made, accept the Bloodwine and say thank you to the man. After that, send him to take the Right of Ascension and learn to be a true Warrior and earn his Honour.”

Taking a sip of the drink in the flagon that Cyden had given him, Khain paused and made a face, then turned to look at Cyden with an expression of almost-horror in his eye, his lips mouthing the word ‘WOW’ at him at the strength of the drink. Then, he turned back to the table and fixed his one eye on the younger Klingon.
