She grinned. “Oh you just wait Noah, I don’t know how much you’ve heard through the grapevine, but the Athena has a history of unusual and dangerous missions. Galaxy saving stuff, and no that’s not an exaggeration,” she said with a wink. “I think it would be wise for you to prepare for more of that and also for what that reality can mean.”
“What’s the most intense medical situation you’ve dealt with so far?” Kingston asked.

Noah couldn’t help but grin back, “I haven’t heard much of anything through the grapevine yet, but galaxy saving stuff sounds like it could get pretty exciting. Can’t wait.”
Pondering her question he thought back to his brief history of practicing medicine. The cadet cruise had been fairly uneventful, certainly no galaxy saving stuff. A few scientific surveys and some systems tests and back to Space dock. Of course he had been through all sorts of situations on the holodeck to prepare for “real life”, but knowing that your holocharacters can’t really die adds a sense of training wheels and takes off some of the pressure.
“Honestly, outside of the simulator, there hasn’t been a lot of notable situations,” he mused. “Actually, there was one thing that happened: one of the science cadets on our cruise was doing an exobotany experiment and managed to cultivate a mold from some moon, I can’t remember which one. Anyway, the details are a little fuzzy, but somehow the containment field on his experiment wasn’t calibrated correctly and the whole science department was breathing in these mold spores for their whole shift. Turns out these spores really like humanoid GI tracts. It was a rather… messy situation for a few days before I could synthesize the right antimycotic to clear out their systems.”

Her eyes widened a little. “Oh, I can imagine! How do you feel you handled the situation?” Janna asked. She wasn’t looking for anything, just trying to get a better feel for how he thought about himself and the things that happened. Whether it was important now or not remained to be seen, but for the most part she saw it as important for if he needed her support at a later time.
