Jennifer fixed up the collar of her dress uniform, glancing down at the small collection of boxes on the table beside her. Pips. Promotions. She lifted a hand to touch the four golden pips on her collar, then smiled and left the side room, entering into the Lounge. It was setting up nicely with fancy decorations that matched the occasion. She smiled at Marishka, then moved over to an entree table where there were some little snacks to eat.

Marishka nodded and smiled looking again over the spread that had been laid out before walking back behind the bar.

OOC: This is a sim wrap-up party that everyone is invited to attend! We’ll be promoting Orvos to XO here.

Being one of the new people on the ship, Noah still hadn’t met many of his fellow officers. It seemed like perfect timing, then, that he had heard there was going to be a party. Lots of opportunities to make small talk with everyone without having the need to have deep conversations with people he had just met. Of course the thought of walking into a room full of strangers and all their eyes on him made his skin crawl, so he was determined to be early. His dress uniform felt odd to him. This was probably the second time he had even worn the thing but it was also nice to have something to celebrate and to look good doing it.

As he arrived at the doors to the lounge he paused briefly to give himself a little pep talk: Noah, you are going to be working with these people very closely for a good while. They are going to become your family and friends and you can either be the quiet, weird one that nobody knows anything about or you can hit the ground running and leave your introvert side in your quarters.

With that he stepped through the doors and surveyed the scene. He was definitely early, perhaps too early, because there really wasn’t anyone there yet… except the captain of course. All of that confidence started seeping back out of him like an air leak in a shuttlepod. Noah closed his eyes briefly and took a steadying breath. Ensigns may not hang out with captains, but doctors should at least be familiar to the officers they may have to care for at some point.

With the air leak stoppered for the moment, he walked over to the table and presented himself, “Good evening ma’am.”

Ensign Astor, Medical

Jennifer watched out of the corner of her eye as the young ensign approached, giving him a polite smile as he greeted her. “Good evening, Ensign. Please, Sir or Captain is fine.” Personally, she hated being called Ma’am. Made her feel old. “You’re…” she thought back to the personnel files she’d approved for transfer. Ah, her memory clicked. “Ensign.... Noah Astor, right? One of our new Doctors?” The captain got a little nostalgic, her gaze focusing on the stars out the window. “I remember my days as a Medical Ensign… The Wolverine was a hell of a ship.”

OOC: pasting in my previous response:

The doors slid open and the gargantuan Orion Ops Chief came through. His left arm was stiff at his side, it’s movement kept to a minimum while the demonic acid of the bite from Cerberus worked its way out of his system. But he had still managed to get into his dress uniform and make sure he looked like the respectable officer. He saw the new Ensign… Asir? Astrid…? ASTOR. That was it. Daggum recognized him from the new crew room assignments. Making his way over to the table where Astor and the Captain stood, Hammor looked first at Wallace and then the Ensign. “Captain. Ensign. Good Evening.”

Hammor, Ops

“Good to see you, Lt. Commander,” Jenn nodded to the Ops Chief.

“Yes… Captain…,” Noah replied tentatively and nodded politely to the Operations Chief who joined them, adding a mental note to brush up on Orion physiology.

Amidst that conversation, another Officer new to the ship walked in. Having only arrived the previous day and completed his check-ins, he had at least met a few people including Marishka.

This man was a Bajoran, that was clearly indicated by the wrinkles over his nose and the earring dangling from his right ear. That earring seemed to shimmer when light hit it, which was maybe a design feature considering it was shaped in an intricate moon and star shape. The Bajoran also sported the Dress Yellow of Operations and wore Lieutenant Commander pips, and that was complemented by an air of self confidence as he walked in and looked around at the room. That self confidence was lent an air of roguishness due to the front top of the dress uniform being left open far more casually than it was usually worn.

Noting the Captain and an unknown Medical Officer in conversation, the ships new Chief Engineer looked to the bar before all else and made his way towards it, nodding to the pair in passing but not interrupting them. He was here simply as a formality, acknowledging the efforts of the crew in their previous mission he had heard so much about, and to get a drink while he did so. “Tequila, no ice.” He said as he reached the bar, and grinned.

“Never.” she said quielty sitting the glass down.

Janna slipped in, the petite woman easily navigating the crowd gathering. She too was in her dress uniform, her blond curls neat and tidy at her chin, and rather than join the crew as they began to finally unwind, Kingston was watching. Perching herself on a stool at the end of the bar, back against the edge, elbows on the bartop. Her eyes scanned the crowd and while she wasn’t playing her favourite game of People Watching (and making up wild stories about them), she was watching, on alert. Not everyone was freely making their way down to the Counselling Suite and she was keyed in to watch for signs of people who might need a friendly check-in.

As he noticed more people filling up the lounge, Noah was glad that he had decided to show up early and be part of a conversation. Much easier to be the one letting people join your conversation than to be the one trying to join.

He turned back to the captain, “So you made your way up to command through the medical field? That seems like the road less travelled. Unless you end up commanding a medical cruiser I suppose. Was that always your career goal?”

-Ensign Astor, Medical

R’han was never particularly noticeable when he entered a room. In fact one of the most notable thing about him was the relatively low profile he held when he was moving. He glanced about registrating each person into his memory as to location, movement and whom they were interacting with. He placed them into a subconscious hierarchy in terms of danger and likelihood of interacting with him.

He walked to the bar ordered something underlinable from the bar tender and received a bluish drink in a champagne type flute.

“Not entirely. Honestly Captaincy wasn’t something I was expecting. I was CMO for a while, and Executive here on the Athena for about a month before the former Captain was recalled and I was appointed. I suppose it was a little unorthodox.” She was a little young for a Captain because of that particularly unusual timing, but it had worked out fairly well, all told.

It was at that point that Orvos Legen, former chief engineer, had arrived, but not through the typical doors. He knew the ship inside and out by this point. Quite the advantage to being the engineering chief and having to fix butt loads or replicators constantly. He shut the jeffries tube that he climb out of silently. It was a little known escape hatch out of the Parthenon that only he and Stark had been aware of. It was out of the way and so made it easy for him to sneak into the lounge without making much fuss from everyone. He quickly smoothed out his dress uniform after clambering out.

He was fully aware that he was going to be promoted to first officer of the ship. Being on display was not something he greatly desired though. But, he could do it. He had done it centuries ago. And even though he vowed to not put himself in that position again, he apparently had found the courage to break it.

Orvos found a spot out of the limelight but near enough for a waiter to find him if so felt inclined. He brought a padd with him.

R’han

The wait staff had been clued to be on the look out for Orvos and knew exactly what to do if they saw him. This time it was Rachael that spied him. Quietly, she walked over and set down a bottle and glass.

“Compliments and congratulations from Eroméni. Please let one of us know if you’d like to order anything else.” she said with a pause before slipping away.

  • Marishka

Jennifer did a quick head-count, glancing around while she talked with the young ensign. She spotted several of her senior staff, although it took a little longer to find Orvos. Well, at least he was here. This party was partially for him, she thought with a wry smile.
