She grinned at him. “Now that sounds like a great idea. I’ve roamed the galaxy so much of my life. First time I’ve had someone so awesome at my side,” she said, meaning every word.

It took time to not just transfer themselves but their cargo to the Ruby Soho but Faye was particular about making sure her special crates (including the experimental relay), didn’t leave her or Daggum’s sight. Daggum she trusted, but a bunch of random people who didn’t know how precious some of this stuff was? Like hell.

Tess was moved to her carrier (with only a mew for a protest) and Faye shook her head as she gazed upon the ship. “I’ve been missing out my entire life. All those freighters! I should have aimed higher,” she said, winking at Daggum. She’s seen ships like this, especially in her Kodiak days doing runs to Tortuga but never had she been aboard one and got to travel on such a ship. It made the Kodiak look like a third-hand waste disposal vessel. “I’m taking notes for our shipping company. Aim for functional but pretty.”

Daggum laughed and said “Oh, this is so much more than pretty. Four decks with full kitchen, lounge, bar, pool, jacuzzi, sauna, vid theater, spa staff, chef, pilot and crew of ten. Master Suite is on deck 2 and is the full front half of the deck. Suborbital Neyzian shuttle for going exploring. And… we have it all to ourselves. The staff is there to make sure we have anything and everything we want for the next month.”

For a moment Faye just stared at the vessel in disbelief. There were many advantages to being married to a man in logistics and super duper awesome surprises were but one of them. But on the other side of it, there was this small part of Faye that, still, despite everything, saw herself as a scrappy girl from the DMZ who was used to having to rough it. And that was okay- it was a part of her charm. But she had grown, changed and this Faye now was allowed to have incredible experiences that far outshine anything she could have imagined back on their humble settlement on Tracken II.

“It’s perfect,” she said softly, before starting to toss out a quip about securing the ship, partly as a joke, and then frowned. Of course he had taken care of security. He knew her too well, and the lingering worries she still had. Still, a bunch of strangers for a whole month? Did he realize how much this would test her? She trusted Daggum unequivocally with her life. But others? Cut loose from the safety of the Manhattan, it was going to be a process she had to re-learn. At least this time it was likely to take way less time. One could hope.

Blowing out a breath, she tightened her grip on Tess’ carrier and moved up the ramp to board the ship.

Daggum followed her up the ramp and through the docking hatch. As soon as they were through, things changed drastically.

Gone was the heavy industrialized decor of the station. The ship was lit softly but with surprising clarity. The stale, recycled air of the station was replaced by what smelled like fresh air, but with a subtle sweetness to it… like the far off aroma of flowers carried on the wind. A large Andorian dressed in a dark blue suit with officer’s epaulets stood in the passageway. He smiled as his antennae swiveled in their direction.

“I am Captain Mal’tek. Please leave your luggage here and the porter will move it to your cabin. On behalf of myself, my crew…” and he grinned at both Faye and Daggum, “… and Fleet Captain Alexander Cochrane, welcome to the Ruby Soho.” He snapped his fingers and four individuals stepped into the passageway. “Allow me to introduce some of the crew. My first officer Draliad.” and a tall Vulcan inclined her head. “Chief Steward Hans Heinrikkson.” and a blonde haired human smiled and said “Welcome aboard.” with a heavy Scandinavian accent. “J’Alek, our Chief Engineer.” the Caotain continued and a Tellerite male nodded. “And Eight, our helmsman and Security officer.” Eight was, or rather had been, a Romulan. But it was apparent that they had at one time been part of the Borg Collective. They inclined their head and said “Qe are very pleased to have you with us.” Mal’tek looked at the two passengers for any sign of apprehension at the appearance of Eight. Daggum merely smiled and said “A pleasure to meet you, for certain.” He looked at the Caotain and said “And may I ask what Fleet Captain Cochrane had to do with this? Last I checked, I made all the arrangements.” Mal’tek smiled broadly and said “Indeed. But he also understood that the two of you would have issues with strangers for so long a time, so he asked if we could assist. All of the crew is former Star Fleet. I was the CO of the Pendragon-class Spartan. Eight was the Marine fighter wing CO on the carrier Hirohito. J’Alek’s last posting was the Chief Engineer on Starbase 3. Draliad was my XO on the Spartan. And Hans was the Chief Ops officer on the Casiopea science vessel. The Ruby actually has three crews, and we rotate trips. But we all know Cochrane in some form or fashion, and he asked us to take care of you two. So… if that sounds okay to you… we have drink waiting in the lounge.” and he gestured down the passageway to the aft end of the ship.
