=/\=Can you spare some time for me? Maybe lunch?=/\=

Leaning back, Janna frowned and then it clicked in her mind. The Starbase. “What are you doing on Starbase 157?”
=/\=Just passing through on my way to a conference on Betazed.=/\=
Janna laughed. “Just passing through? Nice try. Alpha E is closer to Betazed than I am. But I appreciate the effort.” She exhaled slowly. “Fine, lunch. Where?”
=/\=”Can I come aboard? I’d love to see where you live and work!=/\=
She grinned. “Why the hell not. I’ll pick you up at the airlock at Noon. I’ll get you visitor clearance to board on a temporary basis.”
=/\=Can’t wait! And darling?=/\=
“Yeah?”
=/\=You knew this was coming. Don’t try to deny it. You might have your doctorate, but I’ve been in this game longer than you. I’ve got equal amounts of patience,=/\= she said with a wink, before the screen went blank.

Leaning back in her chair, Janna laughed. Pitting a psychologist against a long experienced social worker was one thing, but one whom knew all her childhood stories? Yeah, she was never going to win, even if somedays it might have seemed close.

Finishing up the last of the tasks that were crucial, Janna closed down her terminal and headed out, but not before getting Cherry to clear her afternoon.

“Do say you’re going to bring her by!” Cherry said.
Janna chuckled. “Yes, I’ll bring her by, don’t worry.”
“Fantastic!”
“Why, you weren’t just hoping to get someone to dish about Doctor Kingston as a kid now, were you? Maybe find out some juicy story about a rebellious teen?” Janna said folding her arms on the counter.
“Absolutely!” Cherry said with an empathic nod.
Janna just laughed and walked away.

Fifteen minutes later, Janna arrived at the airlock and Joana was already there waiting for her. “Mãe,” she said as she closed the distance and enveloped her mama in a warm embrace. Arms slipped around and held her firmly. They said nothing for a moment and Janna realized just how long it had been since she had been in the same physical space as her parents. Far, far too long. Pulling back and letting her arms fall, Janna smiled. “I hope you weren’t waiting long?”

Joana shook her head. “Not that long at all. And the lovely ensign here was regaling me with the fun of being stuck at starbase.”
Janna laughed. “We do it so infrequently, you’d think people would cherish it,” she said, tossing the ensign a teasing wink. “But thanks, Louis. I appreciate it.”
“Not a problem at all, Lieutenant. Your mother was a delight.”
Janna put a finger to her lips. “Shhh! You’re not supposed to let her hear you say those things. It goes to her head.”
Joana swatter her daughter’s arm playfully. “Oh shush you, and be a good daughter and show me this place that has capature your time and energy so fully.”

Janna and Louis exchanged a knowing look. “Good luck,” the ensign said.

Walking away backwards, Janna nodded slowly. “I might need it,” she said, feigning a whisper. Joana just gave a long-suffering sigh and followed her daughter down the corridor.

Soon, they stepped into the two-level lounge and Joana stopped, wide-eyed. “When you said the Lounge for lunch, this was not what I expected!”

Janna grinned. “Our host, Marishka, made some lovely changes. Won’t find one like this anywhere. Come on, let’s find a table and see what the kitchen has for specials. They cook all sorts of lovely things.”

OOC: If people want to join in, please do! For a brief description of Marishka’s makeover of 17/18 Forward see https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/athena/posts/110443/. Ghubari added the piano as a gift to the crew, so it’s still there too for any musically inclined folks.

Marishka had just left the piano when Jana and her mother entered. Smiling warmly she made her way across the room and intercepted the two ladies.

“Hello hello. Can I get you a table? As you can see we have a few good ones still free.”
