Cherp’Eng cut a striking figure as he walked the corridors and took the turbolift from deck 5 to deck 12 for his boarding physical.

There were not many of his people in Starfleet, and he knew the looks he got were curiousity, not rudeness. He even smiled a bit when the odd child, accompanied by one or both parents looked at him and called his/her parents attention to the Avisarite.

“Shush, don’t point/That’s rude/Would you like it if people stared at you” all of that and more he was used to, but one little guy said, “can I touch its comb, can I dadda?”

Cherp’Eng smiled at father and son, and said, “of course he can, Lieutenant, we encourage our young to investigate their curiousity. I’ll bend down for him.”

Bending at the waist, Cherp’Eng lowered himself to such an extent the curious youngster could touch his comb.

Wincing slightly at a tug, Cherp’Eng said to the Lieutenant, “he’s got a good strong grip.”

“Sorry, Lieutenant,” the father said to Cherp’Eng.

“No problem,” Cherp’Eng replied, “my comb changes colour during the year by the way, it is blue/green now, but it goes purple and then by the end of the year it goes red/yellow. then it goes back through purple to blue/green again.”

“If you’ll excuse me, I have to see the doctors.” Cherp’Eng said politely and strode down the corridor towards the main sickbay.

Ducking slightly, he went through the sickbay doors as they opened, before returning to his full height once more.

“I’m Lieutenant JG Cherp’Eng,” he told a member of the medical staff, “here for my boarding medical. I trust the doctors know I physically can’t use a biobed and that won’t cause an issue.”

OOC: Cherp’Eng is an Avisarite, a custom species of my own devising and approved for use within STF. Basically think sentient ostriches. A link to the approved species sheet is on the character sheet for Cherp’Eng. However, both are linked below for ease of access/use by the lucky doctor who gets to look after Cherp’Eng
Character Sheet: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/character/551/
Species Template: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/command/gmd/notes/7191/
There are items for both medical and counselling in both the sheet and the template.

Noah looked up from what he was doing as the medical staff member whispered something to him and gestured to the new arrival. He glanced over at Cherp’Eng and smiled as he made his way over to the crewmember, a slight amount of excitement rising in him when he realized the experience he was about to have. There had been some very brief information in medical school about some of the rare species one might encounter in Starfleet including the Avisarites but obviously it was a special situation to serve with one since they were still new to the Federation.

“Hello there,” he greeted his fellow crew member, “I’m Dr. Astor, I understand you are here for your boarding medical exam? I would be happy to assist you with that. You can follow me over next to one of the biobeds or we can use one of the surgery bays if you’d feel more comfortable standing there?”

OOC Thanks

IC:

“Hello Doctor Astor,” Cherp’Eng replied, bending his neck so he was almost at eye level with the Doctor, “thank you for your thoughtfulness of offering the secrecy …” Cherp’Eng paused as he seemed to think on what he was saying, then continued, “… no that’s the wrong word … privacy … that’s the word, isn’t it? … of a surgery bay, but near a biobed is fine with me. How long have you been on board?”

Cherp’Eng walked slowly towards an empty biobed as he spoke to Noah.

“I am still getting used to concepts like privacy and boundaries, back home we have no need for either,” he explained.
