Some might think that her aversion to medical places would make her a difficult patient, but that was far from reality. The reality was that mental health professionals saved her life. And that was not an aphorism. It was an actual fact that after everything collapsed around her and she had made an attempt on her life, it was the sequence of psychiatrists and counsellors that entered her life that helped her find a way to not only make the pain bearable, but to find something good in it all. From there, even when trauma reared its ugly head over and over again, Faye had done the work.

It had been hard. Harder than she could have imagined. But Faye Calloway-Hammor had survived unimaginable events. She was as resilient as they came, and she knew it too. That knowing had been a process of opening herself up to people and the wonderful things that would come from building real relationships. She had allowed herself to be vulnerable and that had resulted in the single greatest phenomenon to ever enter her life: Daggum Hammor.

She was now a wife, but at least Dag had no illusions as to what he had gotten himself into. He too had had his traumas and so the two of them had been slowly unravelling one thread of it at a time: together.

Stepping into the half-moon shaped counselling suite, Calloway mused that it had been a long time since she had been in more than just a basic office. Then again, the Athena had more crew, even though where she had transferred from (the Manhattan) had been no dinky shuttle itself.

As she approached the reception desk, the expected Risian was not there. Then again, the department did actually have more than one assistant out of sheer necessity. She eyed the dark haired man who glanced up at her. “Faye Calloway. I have an appointment with Doctor Kingston.”

He smiled at her. “Yes… it’s here. She should be out in a few minutes. Why don’t you have a seat?”

Faye nodded, spun on the ball of her foot and settled into one of the chairs, crossing her legs at the knee and trying to resist tapping her fingers on the side of her thigh.

She was going to have words with Daggum. Oh yes. He could have mentioned it. It would have shifted a little of how she had approached helping him through the transition of his wife joining him on the ship. And earlier when he was overwhelmed by everything going on. One simple detail, but it mattered. Ah well, she hadn’t been a therapist this long without being able to adapt and go with whatever her patients threw at it.

Setting aside the PADD that contained a very large file, Janna nodded to herself and stepped out of the office. her eyes immediately found Calloway and for a very brief moment she observed her and could tell she was a bit anxious. It was the way she was picking at her thumb cuticle with her index finger nail while glancing around the room with seeming disinterest. Perhaps others might expect someone who was in the Intelligence division to be all blank and unreadable, but they didn’t know Faye. Neither did Janna, but boy did that file give her a pretty good idea. Now it was time to fill in the gaps. “Commander Calloway? “I’m Doctor Janna Kingston,” she said, approaching and offering her hand.
